Nothing like pleasant surprises its like finding a $20 in your pocket.

#1 John Stewart and the daily show tweaking Obama:

Hey, credit Jon Stewart with daring to acknowledge what no one in the press will, even if he’d rather not: that the “arrogant swaggering cowboy” did the things he did, and said what he said, because those are the things you do and say to terrorists, whether the Upper West Side likes it, or not.

Obama – getting those daily threat reports – has figured it out.

And apparently, the left has figured out that “when Obama says it, he doesn’t really mean it, so that gives me hope.”

#2 The ACLU sues Muslims over public funding:

The Minnesota chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union says it’s suing a charter school that caters to Muslim students.

The ACLU names Tarek ibn Ziyad Academy, or TiZA, and the Minnesota Department of Education in a lawsuit in federal court that says the charter school is using taxpayer money to illegally promote religion.

The charter school, which has campuses in Inver Grove Heights and Blaine, has fallen under fire after a substitute teacher claimed the school was offering religious instruction in Islam to its students.

Still waiting for a ACLU suit on the Boston Mosque but I’ll take the steps I can get.

And if the British Pound keeps dropping I will be able to afford to restart the Big Finish Dr. Who subscription. It is already $40 cheaper online with shipping then locally. As of today the Companion Chronicles are barely over $10 each at that’s INCLUDING shipping from England.

The president is putting on hold presidential orders put out by George Bush. One in particular is going to cost us.

Less than a year ago this was a major issue and the majority of Americans Obama now presumes to lead wanted domestic production increased where possible while we continued to develop new alternatives. Is he listening to the people, or the usual special interest groups?

WASHINGTON, Jan 21 (Reuters)- U.S. President Barack Obama may order a hold on a proposal issued in the final days of the Bush administration to expand offshore drilling in previously banned areas, an Interior Department official told Reuters on Wednesday.

Lets hope that the operative word in that story is may. I just paid under $25 to fill my tank on my 99 LeSabre. If that changes due to drilling restrictions re-imposed it will rightly cost seats in the congress. I think the blue dogs aren’t going to stand for it.

Docweasellblog took exception to Andy Levy’s list which I linked to here. Gateway Pundit has his own follow up of his own:

DON’T let Barack Obama or the media tell you that they saved Iraq a year from now. Barack Obama voted to cut-&-run like the rest of the Democrats… several times. If Obama had his way Iraq would be in the hands of Al-Qaeda or Iran. Don’t let the media spin this any other way. Bush, Petraeus and the military saved Iraq.

DON’T let Barack Obama tell you he supported the surge. He said it would never work… He said it wasn’t working… He said it wasn’t working good enough… He said it was more successful than anyone could have imagined. He was as steady as a noodle.

DON’T believe democrats when they say they support the troops. They don’t. If they supported the troops they would not aid and abet the enemy. They would not have given the terrorists a reason to continue to slaughter American soldiers and innocent civilians. Democrats support their own power.

DON’T believe the mainstream media. Don’t take their propaganda as fact. It’s more than likely that they are just spewing out the part of the story they want you to hear. The media is just a vehicle for the radical Left to push their extremist agenda on America. Check and double check everything.

Being civil and keeping arguments germaine doesn’t mean we roll over and forget. Despite what some bloggers apparently believe we don’t need to be either asses or phonies or even dishonorable to be the opposition.

Nobody is saying we don’t fight on issues, nobody is saying we roll over but we aren’t going to persuade people by being a bunch of loud mouthed idiots.

Also remember that the media aided the left when they did those actions, they would put the best face on their stuff and hide the worst of it. If anyone on the right thinks that this is going to be the case for us if we act the same way they are drinking something much stronger than I do.

This has to be won at the local level up. We are going to have a ton of Iraqi vets coming home, many are conservatives and thought of very highly in their homes. We need to run these guys in local and state elections and re-build a base that way. No matter what Rudy says we need to continue to push conservative values. Not because they agree with our faith, but because they work and make a stronger society.

The pro life ad I linked to last night is a great example, so was Erin Burnett’s dig at Geithner today.

Geithner is a liar (turbo tax my left foot) UPDATE: maybe not and a tax cheat. He should not be confirmed and we should say so loudly.

Update: Stop the ACLU gets it EXACTLY right.

The upshot is, we as conservatives and Republicans should want Barack Obama to fail if he is to strive for the wrong things. It’s not unAmerican, or even relatively impolite to say so, either.

This is all not to say that Republicans and conservatives should treat Barack Obama in like manner as the ignorati of the lunatic left have treated George W. Bush. We should give Obama a fair hearing, agree when it’s appropriate, disagree when it isn’t and fight tooth and nail when we know we are right. We should eschew the sort of DailyKos, Huffington Post or DemocraticUnderground style of hate so prevalent with the left. But we should not go wobbly. Principled and firm opposition is called for, as always, cooler heads should prevail.

But, we should not wish Obama “success” just for the sake of success. Nor should we let our guard down in some foolish bid to force the left to appreciate us for our civility. Civility is a reward in and of itself. It isn’t a gift to the enemy.

So, here’s hoping great failure for Obama on all the things he should fail on and success with those things that are right and good for the United States of America.

He said what I wanted to say much better than I did.

Israellycool was THE place to go during the War in Gaza.

He kept up liveblogging figuring that the cease fire wouldn’t hold up. So far he has been wrong, may he continue to be so.

Of course it could be that Hamas just is waiting to complete their re-arming, if so then we will be going though this whole thing again in a year or less.

I am very pleased to have been wrong about the 2nd front. That suggests that Israel’s offensive was a whole lot more effective than anybody knows.

You know I didn’t really cover the pro-Israel rallies that took place during the war, it should be mentioned that there were a fair amount of them in several countries. More than I remember from before. Could the worm be turning?

On Morning Joe this morning they are saying that the president did the oath over to stop conspiracy stuff from conservative blogs.

It would have been nice if they had acknowledged that scholors had mentioned it should be done too.

They got a charge playing the clip of Chris Wallace on Fox joking about it while cutting the joke part too.

It didn’t hurt to re-do it but you know whenever Andrea Mitchel is on that show, the reasons I enjoy it just drop like a rock. If she could stop pretending to be unbiased she might be tolerable.

7:25 a.mAnd c’mon Biden made a joke at Roberts expense, so what, its not a gaffe and Roberts if he is a big man (and I suspect he is) can take it. There was nothing wrong with it. It’s funny and Roberts should joke about it himself. Everyone should lighten up on it.

7:37 a.m. It’s amazing how now that there is a different person in the Whitehouse that there are suddenly reasons to protect people who use tough interrogation techniques.

7:38 a.m. Suddenly they are going to defer to Gates on stuff like this.

7:40 a.m. Gregory suddenly remembers that after the OK bombing that the Clinton asked for all the powers that Bush did. I think this slipped his mind during the campaign.

7:41 a.m. Sources tell these guys that Obama has done “everything right” by the military so far. I guess being the first president to skip the medal of honor ball since Truman doesn’t count.

7:44 a.m. The bump music lately has been really good.

7:55 a.m. The money that Isaacson is now saying is being spent in Gaza to compete with Hamas to show them an alternative to war is a joke. If you think Hamas is not intimidating and funneling off those funds then I have a bridge to sell you.

7:58 a.m. Isaacson agrees with Joe and Pat B. that talking to Hamas is needed terrorists or no but not if they are not willing to stop trying to destroy Israel. Joe and Pat and Mika agree that since they were elected they have to be the ones talked to. As I recall Lincoln didn’t talk to the south without acknowledgment that union was a sine qua non. Stopping terror attacks must be the same.

8:13 a.m. Drudge’s “no bible” headline is being teased and rightly so. Please please please stop calling drudge the blogisphere. He is not a blog.

8:15 a.m. Pat asked what he swore on? As I recall the Constitution doesn’t specify swearing on anything. Lets please drop it. (wishful thinking on my part)

8:19 a.m. They are really giving George W. Bush high props on the transition and on his class.

8:22 a.m. Joe & Mika decry the low class booing and chanting that took place. Good!

8:24 a.m. Shirtsleeves in the White House. Pat notices, Mika likes it.

8:26 a.m. They mention that how Bush left with class while Bill Clinton still isn’t gone. Pat calls Bill Clinton “The most volatile cabinet spouse since Martha Mitchell”.

He’s not gone, He’s Never gone!

8:34 a.m. Erin Burnett says that Wesley Snipes should have run for Treasury secretary since you don’t have to pay your taxes if you do. She doesn’t like it and says so. This is a PERFECT example of the type of standing up I describe in this post. It’s the type that sticks with people.
