While everybody has been so fascinated by the rating for Sarah Palin’s new show (which broke all of TLC’s ratings records) I found the following story at the same site much more interesting.

According to months of data from leading media-research company Experian Simmons, viewers who vote Republican and identify themselves as conservative are more likely than Democrats to love the biggest hits on TV. Of the top 10 broadcast shows on TV in the spring, nine were ranked more favorably by viewers who identify themselves as Republican.

Even more funny is what the article says about shows democrats:

Dems are more likely to prefer modestly rated titles.

Like Mad Men.

The Emmy favorite has struggled to get a broad audience on AMC. It scores through the roof with Democrats (does anyone in Santa Monica or on Manhattan’s Upper West Side not watch it?), but it has one of the weakest scores among Republicans. The same is true for FX’s Damages, Showtime’s Dexter, HBO’s Entourage and AMC’s Breaking Bad.

And this quote made me laugh out loud:

That also goes for the soft-rated, critically beloved 30 Rock. Its score is highly polarized in favor of Democrats. The only show on NBC’s Thursday night comedy block that Republicans rate highly (slightly better than Democrats, even) is The Office … which happens to be the one bona fide hit in the bunch.

30 Rock is not a bona fide hit? You’d never know that from watching Morning Joe or MSNBC.

Let’s put it another way, if your desired audience is the critics rather than the general public, you are a likely a democrat.

This reminds me of the old Crime is down and prisons are full bit. Our friends on the left couldn’t figure out that crime was down because we were locking up criminals!

The point is that if you make shows that appeals to conservatives odds are you are going to have a hit because we are a center/right nation. If you decide to make a show that appeals to the MSNBC crowd, you will be the darling of Hollywood and the papers but don’t expect to get the same ad rates that NCIS and company manage.

Remember you can make a living with a niche market, you can’t win elections with one.

You know can we stop pretending that Iran is anything other than a thug state?

Iran is claiming there was a “misunderstanding” when its arms, mislabeled as “building supplies,” were seized last month at a Nigerian port.

Oh a Misunderstanding that’s it we always misplace Artillery rockets and ordnance are always accidentally packed in creates labeled building supplies:

According to the Associated Press, there were concerns that the arms were headed for Nigerian politicians who intended to respond with violence if they lost in upcoming elections.

And the left wants to trust these guys with nukes? Well never fear the Nigerians aren’t taking this lying down:

if an investigation proved Iran had violated United Nations sanctions and international law, the African nation would consider reporting the Islamic Republic to the U.N.

Oh THAT’S gonna scare them.

I suspect we won’t take Iran seriously until there is a big creator in Tel Avi. But I also suspect there are more than a few people who consider that a feature and not a bug.

You know in the middle of a recession where people a struggling to find work of any kind this story is extraordinary.

The union is seeking a three-year contract that would increase its members’ share of health insurance premiums from 13 percent to 20 percent by the end of the deal. It is also seeking wage increases totaling 9.5 percent.

RTA Transit officials said they can offer only a one-year deal because they don’t know what money will be available beyond that. They have also said that an agreement is not possible because the union refused to agree to a 25 percent share of health insurance premiums.

The possibility of a strike alarmed WRTA patrons, who expressed concern about how they were going to get about if the transportation system ground to a halt.

Right now both sides are in the 2nd day of a 15 day “cooling off” period but as Sam Rosario host of the show following mine on WCRN pointed out the politicians have had no word to say about a Union asking for a 9.5% Payraise during the worst economic times in 80 years?

Perhaps Jim McGovern could be asked but then again how many democrats in this state owe their elections to the Union activist vote efforts on election day?

Meanwhile the Friends of Obama are also getting their reward.

Now comes word that Torquemada HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius has approved a whopping 111 waivers for businesses of all sizes, along with more unions and other providers of health insurance. The escapees include employers of many low-wage and part-time workers whose health insurance plans would otherwise be dropped, including Darden Restaurants — the parent company of the Olive Garden and Red Lobster and other chains, which employ some 34,000 people.

If you were on the right side of the debate apparently you get the right side of the administration you get what you need:

The issue, Dear Friends, is not the waivers. Or Obamacare itself.

The issue, Dear Friends, is that Dear Leader decides who gets a waiver.

Your rights no longer are endowed by your Creator.

Make everything illegal (okay, bit of an overstatement, but you get the point) and then require people to ask for permission. It’s about control, and from where power emanates.

I guess if you support the left all things are possible and nothing is objectionable.

England 1940 Sir Winston Churchill:

“Even though large tracts of Europe and many old and famous States have fallen or may fall into the grip of the Gestapo and all the odious apparatus of Nazi rule, we shall not flag or fail. We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender”

England 2010 General Sir David Richards:

First of all you have to ask: do we need to defeat it [Islamist militancy] in the sense of a clear cut victory? I would argue that it is unnecessary and would never be achieved.

What can the Queen who served in the army during World War 2, who advised her grandson prince Harry to fight in Afghanistan think when she hears this?

It’s stuff like this that leads me to believe when Elizabeth dies, the best of England will die with her.

Let’s remind England how its done

Update: Atlas has an interesting take:

I agree with General Sir David Richards that al-Qaeda “cannot be beaten” but not for the same reasons. Clearly if we are afraid to freely discuss the ideology and motives behind this global war on the West then surely we cannot beat it.If we dare not speak its name, surely we cannot defeat it. If, instead, those that speak to the religious ideology that compels war against the “non-believers” are the ones demonized, surely it will defeat us.

First rule of survival, when someone says they are going to kill you, take them seriously.
