Talk about a meaningless gesture:

Rep. Bill Owens, a Democrat from upstate New York, may back House Republican leader John Boehner for speaker.

Talk about a reverse FishBait Miller scenario. Although it would look good symbolically the GOP needs Bill Owens as much as Dan Maeffi will need his congressional parking space after Jan 3rd.

It’s going to take more than a meaningless vote to return Bill Owns to the House

Update: I guess he figured it out

A New York Democrat has changed his mind about possibly voting for GOP leader John Boehner as the next House speaker.

Rep. Bill Owens now says he was “blowing off a little steam” when he told the Adirondack Daily Enterprise on Monday that it was “quite possible” he could vote for Boehner as speaker.

I guess he will have to win election the old fashioned way and earn it.

After long day of promoting the show door to door it’s nice to come home to good news like this:

Finally, after weeks of canvassing, absentee ballot counting, and legal challenges, Rep. Dan Maffei (D) has conceded to Ann Marie Buerkle (R) in the NY25 race.

A press conference is scheduled for 4PM today.

Ann Marie is a treasure and I didn’t realize her pro-life credentials were so strong

Remember that (a) Buerkle was endorsed by Sarah Palin, and (b) Buerkle is pro-life and was a former spokeswoman for Operation Rescue.

I wonder what Morning Joe will say about this race where Palin endorsed and nobody outside of Me Stacy and the Lonely Conservative thought was a winner?

Ann Marie is a fine woman and will be an even finer representative, I just wish more of the stories were “Ann Marie Wins” rather than Maffei concedes.

There is also good news of a non political nature as not only is BBC America going to be showing the Dr. Who Proms this year but the Christmas Special actually be shown, on Christmas.

BBC America have confirmed they will be showing the 2010 Doctor Who Prom on Christmas Day, the same day they show the 2010 Christmas Special A Christmas Carol.

And if that’s not enough the new preview of the Christmas special is out:

Is that awesome or what?

Oh and today some blogger out of Tennessee you might have heard of has confirmed as a guest for January 15th show.

Now if the potential customer whose ads I’m now writing like them then my cup will runneth over even more.

Ok you all know that the radio show is now how I make my living. I’ve got enough of a pad that I have till the Jan shows to get to the point where it supports me. I’ve gone door to door (with some success) I’ve e-mailed bloggers (with limited success) and I’ve called conservative groups (with no success). Let me make the argument directly why YOUR business and or group should be advertising on DaTechGuy on DaRadio:

#1. Reach:

WCRN is a 50,000 WATT AM radio station in the second largest city in New England. My show as an evening show broadcasts when other stations are powered down. During the day the station is heard in 7 states, at night that number nearly doubles and includes Canada. Why would you NOT want to run ads with that kind of reach?

#2 Bloggers

My guests for every show are bloggers, Large National Bloggers and smaller local bloggers. Each of these people have regular readers and twitter followers. Stacy McCain has just got his 5,000,000th hit. The Lonely Conservative is rated a top 100 conservative blogger, Sissy Willis (show 3) has almost 3000 twitter followers. If even one in ten of their readers, followers etc tune in that extends the audience tremendously, particularly when said blogger posts about coming on.

#3 Audience

WCRN has been building an evening of political talk with some success, we had 27 local, state and federal office seekers appear on our big Halloween show. Activists, Tea Party members, political junkies and conservatives have been attracted to the show.

#4 Timing

Hey who would want to buy ads on a new political show featuring Nationally known bloggers, whose audience is composed of people who follow politics that reaches all of NH during the 2011 primary season?

#5 Price:

I am buying the time on the show. So the ads are bought directly through me. So for as little as $20 for a single 15 sec ad or $198 for two 30 second ads per show for 4 weeks (8 ads) or $720 for 16 minutes of advertising over four shows.

If you are say Mitt Romney’s Free and strong America PAC. How much would you pay to get a regular 60 second commentary played for times a show for four weeks, giving you:

  • That reach
  • Those online blogger streamers
  • That audience
  • And all just in time to lay the groundwork in NH.

How much? You would sure pay more than $720 every four weeks! In fact you’d buy that time just to keep Huckpac, or SarahPac or Tim Pawlenty’s Freedom First Pac, or Newt Gingrich’s American Solutions Pac etc from getting those 50,000 watts for themselves. I mean that’s under $9400 for a year! Do ya think any of those Pacs can afford that? Cripes If I’m the dems I’d have a friendly business buy the time to keep them ALL off.

And on a smaller scale You are a conservative non-profit trying to gain membership or a smaller blogger trying to generate hits. $198 buys four 15 second ads on 4 shows or two 30 second ads on those same for shows!

Or say you are having a Conservative event like CPAC For $810 you would have Thirty Six 30 second ads promoting CPAC every week in Dec and Jan beamed with 50,000 Watts all over New England and beyond!

This is only the second week of the show.  The time to get in the door is NOW before the room gets full.

If you want me to contact you with more information ad a comment with contact info, I’ll grab the info (without putting the comment online) and contact you directly.

Simply to make a small point.

Mildred Jefferson was the first black woman to graduate from Harvard Medical School. This is the type of thing that one might have seen moving tributes on many TV shows. Not simple editorials but large tributes in papers and perhaps even a major magazine article. After all her achievement was not insignificant, it was in 1951 that she graduated from Harvard Medical. This is in the middle of Jim Crow, before MLK.

Why is there less fuss? Because of quotes like this:

“I became a physician in order to help save lives. I am at once a physician, a citizen, and a woman, and I am not willing to stand aside and allow the concept of expendable human lives to turn this great land of ours into just another exclusive reservation where only the perfect, the privileged, and the planned have the right to live.”

You see she founded National right to life applauded by Roe v Wade. That’s why you see long essays in the American Spectator and feminists for life.

I met her only one, during the hearings in Fitchburg in January. I actually had no idea who she was, but said this about her testimony:

With a quiet and calm demeanor she made the case that Fitchburg would be a less pleasant place with Planned parenthood. Her best argument however was the description of Planned Parenthood in terms of practices and their use of organizations that they fund to support their positions as if they were independent.

Consider, this is a person who is known within the movement and must have had many demands on her time and life, and yet, on a cold winter day she made the time to come to Fitchburg Mass. to fight for the lives of the unborn.

I consider myself a well-informed person and one who follows history, I am shocked that I didn’t know this woman, but I shouldn’t be, because the MSM and foes of abortion could not allow it for they might be inspired and that can’t be allowed to happen.

Via Damian Thompsom who will be on our Christmas show.

“I personally asked the pope if there was a serious, important problem in the choice of the masculine over the feminine,” Lombardi said. “He told me no. The problem is this … It’s the first step of taking responsibility, of taking into consideration the risk of the life of another with whom you have a relationship.”

“This is if you’re a woman, a man, or a transsexual. We’re at the same point,” Lombardi said.

Sensible, compassionate, logical – and a badly needed clarification of Catholic teaching rather a U-turn. But some commentators, who attached such weight to the Pope’s reference to a male prostitute, are going to have a really hard time talking themselves out of this one

I’m thinking screwtape:

the only thing that matters is the extent to which you separate the man from the Enemy. It does not matter how small the sins are provided that their cumulative effect is to edge the man away from the Light and into the Nothing. Murder is no better than cards if cards can do the trick. Indeed the safest road to Hell is the gradual one-the gentle slope, soft underfoot, without sudden turnings, without milestones, without signposts.”

The pope is making the same argument in reverse, if the person uses the condom to prevent the spread of a deadly disease, he or she by showing that concerning is taking a small step toward the light. It doesn’t make the sins of Adultery or Fornication any less a sin, but you can’t walk away from the darkness without that first step toward the light.

And again the function here is intent. Using a condom to prevent pregnancy while trying to argue that you are just trying to prevent disease might allow you to convince yourself, but it doesn’t mean a thing, you can fool yourself, but at the gate your won’t fool St. Peter.

Well here is another test for our president:

Thick plumes of black smoke were rising from a South Korean island on Tuesday afternoon after an unexpected attack by North Korea, killing several people.

The attack began around 2.30 p.m. local time when North Korea fired more than 200 artillery shells near the South Korean island of Yeonpyeong, which has a population of nearly 1,200. As many as 70 houses were reported to be on fire, sending huge plumes of black smoke into the air.

The Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) reported that at least several people had been killed in the attack, while the South Korean Yonhap news agency reported that at least 14 South Korean soldiers had been injured, including four who were seriously injured. At least four civilians were also injured.

Seoul confirmed it responded with artillery fire and scrambled F-16 fighter jets to respond to the sudden attack, which comes days after North Korea unveiled a vast new facility it secretly and rapidly built to enrich uranium.

Let me explain how you respond: YOU SHOOT BACK!

As long as you let NK shoot at you and don’t shoot back, they have a license to shoot at you.

Is there a danger of a full scale war? Yes, and the result of said war. The destruction of North Korea and NK knows it. This is a little dictatorship, they aren’t looking for a war, they are looking for a payout, but if they can squeeze SK they will.

And apparently South Korea gets it:

South Korea says it has returned fire after North Korea fired dozens of artillery shells at one of its border islands, killing two marines.

The South’s military was placed on its highest non-wartime alert after the shells landed on Yeonpyeong island.

The North said it did not fire first in the incident. Two South Korean marines and four civilians were also injured.

Sure and the North Koreans are feeding their own people fine too.

Liberty Pundits has an interesting opinion:

OK, so on October 13, 2010, North Korea unveiled their new missile with launching platform for submarine launched missiles. On November 4, 2010, the Military Chief of the North Korean military arrives in Cuba for a meeting. On November 8, 2010, a still-unidentified missile was launched from a submarine at rush hour off the coast of LA, and given all the “cargo ships” from North Korea that have been visiting Cuba this year…well, do I really need to finish that thought? Then, 4 days ago, NK revealed that they were doing what everyone with a pulse knew they were doing: making potential weapons grade plutonium from a nuclear plant. And today, they sent 200 missiles to the South Korean Island Yeonppeyong, killing several people.

200 missiles.

They got away with an act of war off our west coast…of course they feel entirely comfortable going after North Korea! And Japan…you’re on their list too.

Well President Obama, you wanted this job, what are you going to do about it?

Update: PJM gets to the heart of the matter:

In March of this year, the South Korean Pohang-class corvette was torpedoed by a North Korean submarine. Hillary Clinton responded by sternly warned North Korea that it would face consequences.

In warning Pyongyang, Secretary of State Clinton aimed to send a “clear message” to North Korea. “We cannot allow this attack on South Korea to unanswered by the International Community”. Whatever the message sent was, it didn’t deter North Korea from this latest attack. But don’t worry. The odds are that Secretary Clinton is consulting with allies to determine how to engage Pyongyang so that this doesn’t happen again, at least not in the next few months.

As a famous sea caption once said: “Cringing to these fellows will never do!”

This Chris Christie clip is all over the web:

Monday morning after crashing on the couch I woke up really early and expected to see Willie Geist on Way Too Early certain that it would be featured since Gov Christie is held in high esteem on Morning Joe.

Nope no sign, well it’s only a 30 min show so Morning Joe would surely have a clip from it?

Nope.

Now lets give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they had a lot to play with, but this is prime Willie Geist stuff and would lead right into another interview with the Gov.

I’ll watch tomorrow if I’m up. If they leave it out again, then I’m wondering is MSNBC worried about building up Christie? After all he may not be running in 2012 but 2016 is not that far away and every time he opens his mouth he improves the republican brand.
