Looking at thesestories I can’t help but think of this poem:
Take up the White Man’s burden–
Send forth the best ye breed–
Go bind your sons to exile
To serve your captives’ need;
To wait in heavy harness,
On fluttered folk and wild–
Your new-caught, sullen peoples,
Half-devil and half-child. Kipling 1899
What else can one think when you see headlines like this:
Think about what that headline implies, AVENGE. Words mean things. AVENGE suggest a just retaliation for an act. This suggests that the New York Times finds their acts a legitimate response to the burning of a Koran.
I don’t have a lot of respect for Jones but I wonder, would those same people who blame him for the killings blame the “artist” who put up the painting of Christ/Palin and Christ/monkey up if he was attacked by a violent Christian Cult?
What’s the bottom line, both the Times, and the Guardian have concluded that we can’t expect better from the people and those who are busy blaming Jones for these murders consider the Afghans inferiors “half devil and half child”. We CAN’T expect civilized behavior from such people.
How is such an attitude by these papers any different that Kipling’s?
I’m not outraged over the burning of the Koran, I’m outraged at the murder of innocent people and the Fatwa against an US citizen for free speech, and if you consider yourself civilized you should too.
Every day on the news the word concerning the budget has been, “The house is divided”, “Will the house compromise?” “Can speaker Boehner make a deal with democrats?”.
All of this is missing the point.
The house has ALREADY passed a budget deal, it was HR 1. It debated and voted and passed it overwhelmingly.
Normal process at his point would be the senate with its Democratic Majority and its Democratic leader Harry Reid to pass an alternative bill and then you go to a conference committee to work things out.
Yet the Senate has yet to manage even 50 votes (let alone 60) on any kind of bill and Harry Reid has shown no inclination to even try to move. This is no surprise, after all he was in charge of the senate with a huge democratic majority that didn’t pass a budget last year in the first place.
Have you seen a single news story this week asking when the senate was going to pass something? I haven’t (granted I spent yesterday in Bed sick) but I don’t see why it is up to the house which has already done its job to act again when the senate has been unable to do a thing and Republican senators do their country no favors by demanding compromise by the house before they have done their job.
Get something passed first, then we can negotiate based on the two versions available.
If you are a blogger on the right (or a feminist on the left) you will NOT want to miss today’s DaTechGuy on DaRadio on WCRN AM 830 on the dial today at 10 a.m. EST.
Today Robert Stacy McCain of the American Spectator and The Other McCain and Little Miss Attila of the Right Network and Little Miss Attila.com take their great feminism debate off of the blog pages and onto to 50,000 Watts of airwaves.
The question: “Should conservatives want to be called feminists or should that word be anathema to them?”
