MSM laughs at Perry on Climate Change

On Morn­ing Joe today the Panel laughed at Rick Perry’s state­ments on Cli­mate Change

“I think we’re see­ing almost weekly, or even daily, sci­en­tists that are com­ing for­ward and ques­tion­ing the orig­i­nal idea that man­made global warm­ing is what is caus­ing the cli­mate to change,” the Texas gov­er­nor said on the first stop of a two-​day trip to the first-​in-​the-​nation pri­mary state.

He said some want bil­lions or tril­lions of tax­payer dol­lars spent to address the issue, but he added: “I don’t think from my per­spec­tive that I want to be engaged in spend­ing that much money on still a sci­en­tific the­ory that has not been proven and from my per­spec­tive is more and more being put into question.”

Cli­mate skep­tics love Perry, and this kind of rhetoric is why. While Mitt Rom­ney is out and about on the cam­paign trail agree­ing with the over­whelm­ing sci­en­tific sta­tus quo on the topic, Perry appears poised to take up a view of cli­mate change on the pres­i­den­tial cam­paign trail that would be right at home in a Sen. James Inhofe (R-​OK) floor speech.

Firedoglake’s state­ments are par­tic­u­larly ironic as they hit Perry’s sci­ence grades (with­out com­par­ing them to Obama’s I won­der why)

In a way this makes sense from Perry’s point of view. As he got pretty much D’s and C’s in sci­ence, mean­ing the sci­en­tists were bet­ter at sci­ence than he was, which is not sur­pris­ing. But he also got the same grades in polit­i­cal sci­ence, eco­nom­ics and his­tory. So the sci­en­tists were bet­ter at that too. But hey, he’s a moronic Repub­li­can Gov­er­nor from Texas, so if he some­how mala­props his way into the White House he can use Bush’s old lines about who the Pres­i­dent is when he gets sur­rounded by “egg heads” and their 3.0 and bet­ter GPAs.

On Morn­ing Joe they con­trasted him to Rom­ney on this, favor­ing Rom­ney. This is no sur­prise as Ed Mor­ris­sey points out

His posi­tion on AGW hardly comes as a sur­prise, but it does draw a big con­trast with Rom­ney. Rom­ney angered con­ser­v­a­tives in June by declar­ing his belief in AGW, and then refus­ing to repu­di­ate it a few days later. His promise not to push any poli­cies address­ing it didn’t exactly fill the Right with con­fi­dence, either.

The prob­lem for the MSM here is that while they totally ignored the Cli­mate Change Scan­dals of last year, Rush Lim­baugh, Fox and blogs did not. I have 20 posts tagged “Cli­mate­gate” and if you do a search at Instapun­dit for “cli­mate­gate” and you will find pages of links.

…is more informed on the issue than any­one who gets their news solely from MSNBC or Morn­ing Joe

Bot­tom line because the Pauline Kaels of the MSM refused to look at this story (as they have ignored the Gun­walker scan­dal) mil­lions of Amer­i­cans are ahead of them on the curve. The pan­elists on Morn­ing Joe are laugh­ing at Rick Perry now but in 2012 will they be say­ing: “I don’t know how Richard Perry could have won. I don’t know any­body who voted for him.”
