If you want to understand why it was more important for Dede Scozzafava to lose in NY-23 then it was for Doug Hoffman to win in Ny-23 look no further than Jon Huntsman on This Week.
The Democratic National Committee just blasted out a greatest-hits reel from Huntsman’s Sunday show appearance, wherein the former Utah governor criticized Rick Perry for being anti-science, Michele Bachmann for being unserious about the economy and Mitt Romney for being a flip-flopper.
This is exactly what would have happened if Dede Scozzafava won:
The moment Dede votes with Pelosi that bill becomes “bi-partisan” by definition. The fact that it is only one republican will make no difference, the MSM will trumpet it as “bi-partisan”. When ABCCBSNBCCNNMSNBCBET wants to talk to a republican on an issue SHE will be the one they call. She will become the face of the republican party that will be pushed and lionized. She will be the reason why “conservatives need to back off”.
The reality of all of these things will not matter, the media will push them as if it was true. If you don’t believe me look at how they treat Olympia Snowe, Look how they treated Chuck Hagel, Look how they treated Chris Shays and of course look at how they treated McCain when he wasn’t running for president. Republicans who attack republican positions are always welcome in the limelight.
Let’s make it clear, Jon Huntsman is not running for the Republican nomination for president. He is running for a permanent place as the “goto former GOP presidential candidate” on every MSM show during the general election and beyond.
You will never go broke or lack face time on national television as a member of the GOP willing to hit republicans in general and the right in particular. Glenn Reynolds put it best:
Hey, maybe if Obama dumps Biden he can name Huntsman as the new Veep. I think he’d be a worthy successor to Joe Biden.
I haven’t met the man and I don’t know if I’d like him or not, on occasion he can be insightful and I don’t have an issue with him being ambassador to China under Obama but his presidential run was totally MSM generated and if he actually convinced himself otherwise then he is too easily fooled to be Commander-in-Chief.
Update Jacob Weisberg of Vogue on Morning Joe today when told that Huntsman is well received by the media but can’t get out of single digits (you mean 1%) with the party and that demonstrates what is wrong with REPUBLICANS?
Even funnier he says that non centrist republicans “can’t win elections” There are 63 members of congress who weren’t there in 2009 that would disagree with you.
And Howard Dean says “there is no thinking man in the Republican party” and Eugene Robinson tells us we have known about the “Greenhouse effect” for 100 years. Do these people do anything but talk to themselves?
As Alexander Burns says at politico: “Jon Huntsman continues to dominate the contest for East Coast media love“.
