The first I heard of Ron Paul win at the Value Voters summit straw poll, was a tweet via Dave Weigel:
And followed up thus:
The rule about straw polls: They only matter if someone’s trying to win. In 2010, Rep. Mike Pence made an effort to take the straw poll, and he won it. And then he decided not to run for president. In 2011, the only campaigns with real victory strategys were Ron Paul’s and Rick Santorum’s. This was limited — Paul’s spin-off Campaign for Liberty organization bought tickets, but the presidential campaign didn’t do anything.
That’s why I didn’t like my friend at Valley of the Shadow weeks ago concerning Paul and California. The rules allow Paul’s people to pay the way for his people to go, it may allow him to fool those who don’t pay attention but it’s all smoke, after all why do you think Paul wins the CPAC straw poll over and over, how many Paul kids get free trips to DC to attend and vote? Plenty.
Stacy McCain nails it huge:
the point to which I wish to call the reader’s attention is this: The Paul campaign is smart to spend money on getting their supporters to events, and other campaigns are stupid in spending money to hire a bunch of staffers and consultants who don’t necessarily provide value-added to their efforts.
It’s a principle concerning bloggers too, What is a better investment for the conservative movement than $10,000 in 100 tip jars for bloggers who will produce stories day in and day out pushing a shared agenda, covering stories (like the John Lewis business) that the media will not and will share it everywhere?
It’s not a tough call.
And that brings us to Hallie Miller
Yesterday the blog had a linkback from Hallie Miller, her post thanked me Stacy McCain and Smitty for supporting her in the past and promoted my radio show and the blog which is now my only job. It brought a big smile to my face.
She is running in another modeling contest. One of the top 10 finishers will be considered for a grand prize including a magazine cover, cash and exposure vital to a modeling career.
Unlike the last online vote contest people can cast unlimited votes online, you can vote here I like the voting system for the other contest better, but like Ron Paul I’m going to use the rules to my friend’s advantage and vote for Hallie Miller early and often.
Here is the thing, take a look at this post, other than the title of the blog there is no indication that he was involved in a new contest and needed a hand, she didn’t mention it or ask me, but instead she remembered me and my friends. I only found out about the contest by looking deeper in the blog.
Hallie Miller hasn’t asked, but I’m Going to ask. Go over there and vote, 10 times or 100 times a day or more. At a time when a bunch of people her age are tearing up parks all over the country it is a real pleasure to support a conservative girl playing by the rules to succeed.
Update: CBS cries fix on Paul but not on Hallie.
Update 2: Missing the word “than” in the paragraph on investment

Thanks again for all your support! You are awesome.
Sorry I couldn’t get you over the finish line, we conservatives don’t do as well with election that allow multiple votes by one person
