One of the catalysts for the successful election of Scott Brown in 2009 was the decision of Democrats in Massachusetts to fiddle with the dates and methods for replacing Ted Kennedy. I’ve always maintained that if Democrats had simply had the election in November Martha Coakley would now be in the US senate and Scott Brown would be part of the microscopic GOP Senate Caucus.
Robert Stacy McCain has reported a desire to protect frontrunners (at the time Romney and Perry) had a lot to do with the moving of the Florida’s primary and the cascade of primary moving being that followed.:
By moving up their primary, these big-shot Florida GOP power-brokers are in effect protecting the front-runners and preventing any other candidates — including Herman Cain, who stomped Cannon’s boy in Saturday’s straw poll — from gaining traction. Despite all their noise about wanting to make sure Florida is represented in the process, blah, blah, blah, Cannon and Haridopolos are actually pushing a plan that would strip the state of half its delegates to next year’s GOP convention.
Unfortunately for the best laid plans of mice and men Herman Cain and the voters of Florida had other plans:
Herman Cain leads the Florida Republican presidential primary with 34%. Cain is followed by Mitt Romney at 28% and Newt Gingrich at 11%.
In July, Rick Perry was leading in Florida with 16%, followed closely by Michele Bachmann at 15%, Romney at 15%, Sarah Palin at 13%, and Cain at 11%.
If Herman Cain can maintain his lead over the now shorter period GOP establishment types will be kicking themselves.
Good.

Cain currently has enough cash on hand for 1 week of Florida ads, after which he’d have to layoff staff to make payroll.
You may be right. Or perhaps the devious Florida RINOs realize that Herman Cain will win in Florida and want to strip him of half his delegates.
