In a Yugo Volt

by Datechguy | December 2nd, 2011

…but they drove with pride. And as the crowd drived past the little flat car, you know they saved a lot of gas but didn’t get far, in a Yugo.

Paul Shanklin as Elvis: The Rush Limbaugh Show

You know it’s said that there is nothing really new under the sun and when I saw this story

General Motors will buy Chevrolet Volts back from any owner who is afraid the electric cars will catch fire, the company’s CEO said Thursday.

These fires have come after side impacts, but not directly after them:

The fires happened seven days to three weeks after tests performed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. And GM has said there’s no threat of fires immediately after crashes. GM also has said that no Volts involved in real-world crashes have caught fire.

Oh that’s even better, nothing like a spontaneous fire when you don’t expect it. It looks like the Government’s gift to the green movement comes with strings, or perhaps a lanyard.

Jazz Shaw at Hotair approves of the buyback plan:

A smart move on the part of GM, clearly. To be successful in marketing you need to be sensitive to what options consumers want and are willing to pay for, as well as identifying features which are less popular. Cars prone to suddenly turning into a human size barbeque grill, according to recent customer satisfaction surveys, clearly fall into the latter category.

Do you want to be the car dealer with a Volt on your lot trying to explain to the customer “Hey and best of all if your car spontaneously combusts or if you think it will, we’ll buy it back!” That will look great on a circular

No matter how much liberals dream, until the technology and the price are ready, the product wont be. Now if our liberal friends want to be the subject of Rush Limbaugh next parody that’s their call, but I don’t think the government and my tax dollars should be financing it.

  1. LOL!

    More about the Yugo HERE.

  2. Do you get to keep the $7500 government tax credit if you buy a Volt and sell it back to GM? Does GM get one? After all, they just bought an electric vehicle.
