..for the birth certificate team:
Arpaio and a member of the cold-case posse, Mike Zullo, spent more than an hour walking approximately 50 members of the news media and Arpaio supporters through irregularities the volunteers claim to have found in Obama’s birth certificate and Selective Service registration.
It’s not for me to say who Sheriff Arpaio chooses to carry water for, of course as Ed Morrissey points out if you are going to carry water for the birth certificate stuff it might help if there wasn’t a gaping hole in your bucket:
I’m no Columbo, but wouldn’t the first step in investigating a potentially fraudulent birth certificate be to check with the issuing authority to see if it matches their records? The state in Hawaii has twice validated Obama’s published birth records, and the Honolulu Advertiser published a notice of Obama’s birth the week these records say it happened, a rather significant piece of contemporaneous evidence that investigators would normally find interesting. Seems to me that an “investigation” might have would-be detectives talking with these officials to see what they know, or at least asking the state to recheck their records.
Silly me to think that one might do this, but let’s forget that for a second and think.
I know a lot of people who are hung up on this Birth Certificate thing. For the sake of this discussion let’s stipulate that you are right on the whole thing. With that stipulation let me say two things when it comes to 2012:
1. It doesn’t matter:
If your goal is to defeat president Obama in 2012, focusing on the Birth Certificate is not going to do it. You are not going to persuade a single voter who isn’t already pulling the lever against Obama. You are talking about people already motivated, who were motivated even before 2009. This is no different from the African-Americans for Obama business. It’s a waste of resources for little reward.
2. It plays into the left’s hands:
The economy is in shambles, Tons of people have given up on finding work, Gas prices are though the roof and Obama has even managed to unite Catholic Bishops on an issue, and you want to talk about where he was born? The democrats much think you are manna from heaven. Every single person in America has lived with the Obama economic disaster every day for the last 3 years. People can try to excuse it, but they can’t deny it.
The one chance the left has in 2012 is to keep the topic away from the economy and this president’s record. Every day that the topic is not Barack Obama’s record as president is a day the White House wins. Every day the conversation is about the President’s Birth we are doing the White House’s and the MSM job easier. It’s that many more minutes they can duck the economy without effort.
People have to make a decision what their priorities are. If it’s not defeating Obama in 2012 then you’d better rethink things fast.
