The Syracuse Post Standard spin strikes at Ann Marie Buerkle again

Things are heat­ing up in NY-​25 again

Two years ago I had the priv­i­lege of watch­ing Ann Marie Buerkle call BS on the media and the Syra­cuse papers

Both on a story con­cern­ing taxes and rents and then on the polls.

Well we are get­ting toward another elec­tion cycle and the paper insisted Buerkle was down 11 with two weeks to go is at it again with this headline:

What has got­ten their ire? Con­gress­woman Buerkle is fight­ing back again:

U.S. Rep. Ann Marie Buerkle con­demned a group hand­ing out a flier mak­ing what she said were false state­ments about her stances on Medicare and other issues.

“It’s not fair to seniors,” she told the crowd of about 80 at Cicero Town Hall. “Pol­i­tics are pol­i­tics, but when you hand out stuff like this and you scare seniors, that’s just wrong.”

After the open­ing the arti­cle spends about forty para­graphs try­ing to bend her state­ments into a pretzel.

This is the same Syra­cuse paper that insisted that Buerkle was down 11 with two weeks to go, I pre­sume that the polling crew that came up with those num­bers must have moved to Wis­con­sin to do the exit polls. They claim that Con­gress­woman Buerke’s state­ments on Oba­macare are “mis­lead­ing” but more inter­est­ing is the use of Poli­ti­fact to attack her.

Poli­ti­fact? Wasn’t it just over six months ago that Paul Krug­man called Poli­ti­fact: “use­less and irrel­e­vant” that Steve Benen said Poli­ti­fact: “ought to be ashamed of itself”, that John Cole said: pro­motes the truth as a lie”, that Think Progress said had its “Pants on fire” that Fire­dog lake declared: “Dis­graced itself”.

How is it that the left lean­ing Syra­cuse Post Stan­dard would use as a source the vehi­cle Tommy Christo­pher referred to as: “a site whose cred­i­bil­ity depends on the illu­sion that they’re impar­tial arbiters of truth”?

Sim­ple, those stan­dards only apply when they are attack­ing state­ments by Democ­rats but as I said in Decem­ber Politifact:

should not fear, as the elec­tion gets closer and the left decides they need them they will for­give just as long as they pro­vide fodder

A new elec­tion sea­son is near and Democ­rats are hav­ing a very bad time of it, so any card and weapon that can be played, even one pre­vi­ously dis­carded, will be used again.

Par­tic­u­larly if you have to counter a foe who won’t take such attacks lying down.
