Romney at Holman Stadium 9-7-12

After the Hollis event of the afternoon and a quick visit to Mike of Granite Grok I headed over to Nashua to cover Mitt Romney in Nashua. I got there around 5:00 and the parking was already impossible (this is what happens when you don’t bus in people for your events).

I ended up parking on a side street the side street near a football field next to the stadium

Holman field hosts the Sliver Knight of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League of New England.

But once hosted a minor league franchise of the Brooklyn Dodgers, it was the home field for Don Newcombe and Roy Campanella.

By the time I got there the lines were long

and the secret service was already in place

There were two separate stations, one at the General Admission area and one for VIP& and press. The print press was to the 3rd base side of the mound

As I came in I saw a few friends in the stands,

And some familiar faces

while the main media stand was just in front of the mound.

The Park was decked out and ready

Once I checked in I went back outside and started interviewing people in line like Peter who was at the Hollis event earlier

And Gary

The most dangerous interview for the Administration was Tony from VT

His story is one that has been repeated often.

I wasn’t the only person working the line candidate for Governor Ovide Lamontagne was working the crowd in line

Kelly Ayotte & Congressman Charlie Bass were there

As I came back in my frequent guest on DaTechGuy on DaRadio Tom Bowler of Libertarian Leanings was entering he spoke to me before joining the section at home plate

The secret service was deployed to keep track of the field crowd. Press was kept out of that area. At one point I saw a Nashua Policeman confiscating small 2 ft American Flags from the field crowd.

I asked the police and it turned out as the field crowd has close enough to reach the candidates the Secret Service didn’t want essentially a bunch of pointed sticks scattered through the area and the Nashua police followed though this request.

People laugh at this stuff, we have the luxury but the police & the Secret Service do not. In the end it’s better to explain a lot of small things like this instead of one big incident.

Preliminary speakers included State pols

I shot brief clips of Congressman Charlie Bass

and Mass. Lt. Gov Kerry Healey:

Senator Ayotte’s words mimicked her words from Hollis:

I panned the crowd as the Romney Bus press showed up, there is always a contingent that is with the candidate, they always show up a few minutes before.

While everyone waited for Mitt, Sen Ayotte

And Congressman Bass worked the fence line a bit more

Mitt arrived with his wife Ann and the crowd went wild

One of the problems of the venue is there were two distinct crowds, The people in the stands and the ones. The speakers before Mitt & Ann tended to shift their attention form one to the other. It was worth noting that Ann Kept her presentation directed toward the field crowd,

and coincidentally toward the TV cameras.

Mitt by contract during his remarks made it a point to address both the field crowd and camera and the stadium crowd.

His presentation was the longest of the night and was details, the sun was down and the lights were up as he talked to the crowd. Here is a pan from behind 2nd base

And a shot from the Center field fence

When the speech was over the crowd was fired up, Mitt signs some autographs

here is my take:

But the most important takes come from those who attended like Jen

And candidates/volunteers like Dana Schoneman who do the heavy lifting

It’s how this place with these people after this event that will matter long after photos like this one

are passed around on facebook

Anyway here are the rest of the pictures:
