Rise of the Cheetos Eaters Ed Morrissey on Morning Joe

Because of my road trip I didn’t have time to watch much TV but on Fri­day Morn­ing I sat at the Lonely Conservative’s Kitchen table watch­ing Morn­ing Joe while I planned a day that would take me to the Ann Marie Buerkle HQ, The Clay Town Hall Event, The Shrine of Saint Kateri Tekak­witha in Fonda and to Chris Gibson’s cam­paign office in Kingston, with a Saratoga stop in NY-​21 can­celled 30 min­utes away from the spot.

In between Phone calls and watch­ing tweets Karen steeped out the door to take her son when to my shock and delight my friend Ed Mor­ris­sey came on the screen to talk about his piece on Elec­tion 2012.

When Karen walked back in I called to her excit­edly to see.

There is a lot to say about the appear­ance, that it drove Mika a tad nuts to the point of fil­li­buster was fun, that it actu­ally pro­moted at least once Sock Pup­pet on Twit­ter to attack him was amus­ing but what really got me laugh­ing the more I thought about it was what it represents.

There is no ques­tion Ed Mor­ris­sey deserves the atten­tion, he is a great writer, his wife is a national trea­sure, and on a per­sonal level as a guy who went from a call cen­ter to writ­ing, report­ing and pun­ditry Ed’s path is the path I hope to complete.

But in the end North­ern Alliance Radio not with­stand­ing, Ed Mor­ris­sey is a blog­ger, he cut his teeth at the Cap­tain Quar­ters where I started read­ing him and has con­tin­ues as a blog­ger for Hotair​.com.

Hot air is a blog, it has always been a blog, even though it is now part of Town Hall it remains a blog.

Yet over and over on Morn­ing Joe we have heard peo­ple from Mike Bar­ni­cle to Joe Scar­bor­ough go after “Chee­toes Eat­ing Blog­gers” as peo­ple to be scorned, ignored and berated.

I hope and trust Ed will be back on the show, if so per­haps it sug­gest they have turned a cor­ner on the new media. And maybe Mika will be able to bring her­self to ask a question.

But more impor­tantly this will be the moment when the Morn­ing Joe team acknowl­edges that the peo­ple of the blo­gos­phere who work very hard for very lit­tle reward and have does the job that many in the media have not deigned wor­thy to cover
