ReadabilityJamie Foxx and the Reality of the Black Church
One black man, overcome by emotion, dropped to his knees, prompting the president to conduct a curbside colloquium on the meaning of emancipation. “Don’t kneel to me,” said the president. “That is not right. You must kneel to God only, and thank Him for the liberty you will enjoy hereafter.”
Shelby Foote. The Civil War a Narrative Vol 3
“I, the LORD, am your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery. You shall not have other gods besides me.”
Exodus 20:2 – 3
Herod, after instituting a search but not finding him, ordered the guards tried and executed. Then he left Judea to spend some time in Caesarea. He had long been very angry with the people of Tyre and Sidon, who now came to him in a body. After winning over Blastus, the king’s chamberlain, they sued for peace because their country was supplied with food from the king’s territory.
On an appointed day, Herod, attired in royal robes, (and) seated on the rostrum, addressed them publicly. The assembled crowd cried out, “This is the voice of a god, not of a man.”
At once the angel of the Lord struck him down because he did not ascribe the honor to God, and he was eaten by worms and breathed his last.
Acts 12:19 – 23
One of the reason’s why I was so surprised by the results of the late election was the black vote. I suspected and some polls indicated that the inordinate hardship among black Americans in the Obama years combined with the Gay Marriage issue and the position of the Black Church, the center of the Black Political community, would stay home.
This turned out to be wrong still turned out en mass to support the president.
I imagined that unlike the Catholic Church we have a large amount of people who are “Cafeteria Catholics” people who claim the label but do not practice nor go to mass I suspected there was a great conflict between Black Christians loyalty to God vs “race loyalty” that the president’s campaign exploited.
At least I did until this pronouncement from Jamie Foxx:
This occurred at the previously recorded Soul Train Awards broadcast on BET Sunday (video follows with transcript and commentary):
JAMIE FOXX: First of all, give an honor to God and our lord and savior Barack Obama. Barack Obama.
A fair amount of folks on twitter took objection to this but the final test comes from both the president and the black churches.
The president claims Christianity, if he is even the least bit serious, he needs to say something and mean it. Granted we can only measure by the first if he is willing to mimic Lincoln but it will be by the second that one to whom this isn’t above their pay grade will judge if he is mimicking Herod
The second test is of the Black Church.
I am writing this at 10:38 AM on Monday the 26th of November. This broke over the last few hours. The next 72 hours will say a lot. The statement that comes out of major black churches and their pastors if any, will be telling. It will determine if they are political organizations and slush funds masquerading as Churches or actual Christian Churches that believe.
I’m sure given the re-election of the president and the sheer idolatry that the media and left has for them, any pastor who decided to let this go, to ignore it, to pretend it was never said and move on, will not have a problem, particularity if their flock overwhelming voted Obama. Their silence will be rewarded and they will be able to enjoy prosperity and a steady parish income for the rest of their lives…
…after that, they’re on their own.

O Most Holy Mary
ask The Most Holy Trinity
to turn an eye of clemency towards us
that the pride of the dragon be crushed
which now pursues us with implacable fury.
O Mary, exceeding in grandeur
all that was ever possible in men & Angels
withstanding the Great Sea of Sorrow
we beseech Thee,
O Living & Incorruptible Ark
multiply & intensify our petitions
in order to merit for them sufficient assistance
& speedy pardon from Your Son, Jesus Christ
so that we might again return to the Faith & friendship
of Christ Your Son, in Grace.
Hear us Most Holy Mary, amen, amen.
