Jamie Foxx and the Reality of the Black Church

One of the reason’s why I was so sur­prised by the results of the late elec­tion was the black vote. I sus­pected and some polls indi­cated that the inor­di­nate hard­ship among black Amer­i­cans in the Obama years com­bined with the Gay Mar­riage issue and the posi­tion of the Black Church, the cen­ter of the Black Polit­i­cal com­mu­nity, would stay home.

This turned out to be wrong still turned out en mass to sup­port the president.

I imag­ined that unlike the Catholic Church we have a large amount of peo­ple who are “Cafe­te­ria Catholics” peo­ple who claim the label but do not prac­tice nor go to mass I sus­pected there was a great con­flict between Black Chris­tians loy­alty to God vs “race loy­alty” that the president’s cam­paign exploited.

A fair amount of folks on twit­ter took objec­tion to this but the final test comes from both the pres­i­dent and the black churches.

The pres­i­dent claims Chris­tian­ity, if he is even the least bit seri­ous, he needs to say some­thing and mean it. Granted we can only mea­sure by the first if he is will­ing to mimic Lin­coln but it will be by the sec­ond that one to whom this isn’t above their pay grade will judge if he is mim­ic­k­ing Herod

The sec­ond test is of the Black Church.

I am writ­ing this at 10:38 AM on Mon­day the 26^th of Novem­ber. This broke over the last few hours. The next 72 hours will say a lot. The state­ment that comes out of major black churches and their pas­tors if any, will be telling. It will deter­mine if they are polit­i­cal orga­ni­za­tions and slush funds mas­querad­ing as Churches or actual Chris­t­ian Churches that believe.

I’m sure given the re-​election of the pres­i­dent and the sheer idol­a­try that the media and left has for them, any pas­tor who decided to let this go, to ignore it, to pre­tend it was never said and move on, will not have a prob­lem, par­tic­u­lar­ity if their flock over­whelm­ing voted Obama. Their silence will be rewarded and they will be able to enjoy pros­per­ity and a steady parish income for the rest of their lives…

…after that, they’re on their own.
