ReadabilityHarry, I remember Humphrey & Tip, You're not that party anymore
I was all set to write about a different subject when I noticed this at Instapundit quoting Harry Reid at of all places Talking points memo DC. (emphasis mine)
“The Second Amendment is something that was adhered to by Hubert Humphrey, John Kennedy,” Reid said. “So I don’t think anyone wants to diminish the Second Amendment, but I think everyone should just take a deep breath and realize where we are and where we need to go.
Harry Harry Harry, you’ve just hit the nail on the head. John Kennedy was killed when I was 5 months old. Hubert Humphrey died when I was 14 and if those people were the type of people running the democrat party I might still be a democrat.
The democrat party ran away from the Humphreys and the JFKs a long time ago. To them I would have been a valued voter. A grandson of immigrants, the first in my family to complete college, a devout Catholic and a person who opened a small business at the age of 26 to try to make a go of it.
Today I’m all those same things and a father of 2 who are now in college teaching them the same values that my devout hard-working parents taught me. To that same party, I’m a racist, bigot, sexist, homophobe who needs to be stopped.
I recognized this change before many leaving the party just before my 30th birthday when I saw what they became, for others it was harder. It took nearly a lifetime for my mother to leave the party she voted for since 1948 and she didn’t cast a vote for a GOP candidate for president until her final vote 37 days before her death.
If the Democrat party was the party of JFK & Hubert Humphrey or even Tip O’Neill then I when it came to the 1st amendment or the 2nd I’d trust them to respect those right enshrined in the constitution.
Today it is the party of Harry Reid, Barack Obama, Alan Grayson and Elizabeth Warren.
On Morning Joe Mika & Joe lamented the lack of trust in Washington between the parties. When your party becomes the party of JFK, Tip and Humphrey again then perhaps I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt again.

Ironically, these are the same people who think that the Republican party has drifted rightward since the ’80s (because, you know, John McCain makes Ronald Reagan look like Nancy Pelosi).
Or, as one of my friends astutely pointed out, the Democrats have completely abandoned the white working class vote. They accuse us of putting together a shrinking coalition, but their entire strategy is to drive out takers, the uber-rich, government bureaucrats, and the rest.
