Major General Gunther Blumentritt:This is history. We are living a historical moment. We are going to lose the war because our glorious Führer has taken a sleeping pill and is not to be awakened. It’s unbelievable. Think of it Kurt. Don’t ever forget it. We are witnessing something that historians will always say is completely improbable, and yet it is true. The Führer is not to be awakened! I sometimes wonder whose side God is on

Lt. Kaminsky:You wanted confirmation, Captain? Take a look! There’s your confirmation!
Then came the Denver Debate and the New Yorker Cover, conservatives laughed and liberals panicked.
While some thought it a joke and some thought it a farce the true meaning of the empty chair was never clearer than it was at the Benghazi hearings.
Under questioning from South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta could not explain why President Barack Obama spoke with him only once on Sept. 11, 2012 during the Benghazi terrorist attack, and never called back for any updates for over seven hours.
The actual testimony is astounding:
Sen Lindsey Graham (R-SC).…And my question to you is during that eight-hour period, did the president show any curiosity about how’s this going, what kind of assets do you have helping these people? Did he ever make that phone call?
SEC. PANETTA: Look, there is no question in my mind that the president of the United States was concerned about American lives and, frankly, all of us were concerned about American lives.
SEN. GRAHAM: With all due respect, I don’t believe that’s a credible statement if he never called and asked you, are we helping these people; what’s happening to them?
Ed Morrissey is incredulous as is Ace over the statements of the head of the Joint Chiefs of staff (as well he should be) but for all of that incompetence of man with the stars and all the snark of the Leon “Global 911″ Panetta there is only one story here:
The story is that on 9⁄11 during an attack on Americans in Benghazi (including a person he knew personally) the President of the United States was uninterested.

Wouldn’t this make him a true representative of todays America? After all, this is pretty much what the large majority of Americans did on election day.
Since my comments are “in moderation,” and since I ought not have even left the first one, feel free just to delete this one and the other two — I’m adding nothing to your discussion. I ought to have read your full post here after following Instapundit’s link. Good post, I don’t want to further burden your comments with junk.
Can’t speak for the author of the article but your comment was polite and germane—yes the issue had already been addressed but it is not a sin not to have noticed and your comment was not “junk.” Nice to see someone being polite these days, is the only reason I comment….
“Disinterested” means “fair.” You meant “uninterested.” Sorry to be pedantic, but it’s a useful distinction. If you’re ever in court, you want a judge who’s keenly interested, intellectually, in your case; you don’t want him to be uninterested. But you don’t want him to have a financial interest in your case’s outcome either, because then he would be an interested party instead of being properly disinterested.
Yes, some modern dictionaries have given in to the massive ignorant misuse of these words. Doesn’t mean you should.
Bam went to bed. After chatting with Bibi for an hour, to keep up appearances.
Remember how the Press coordinated themselves to hit Romney hard on that Wednesday morning, at Romney’s press conference, for his criticism (put out at 10pm Tuesday, embargoed to midnight) of the Cairo Embassy tweets? How concerned the Press was to know whether Romney regretted the tone of his remarks? Romney didn’t back down, but the ferocity of his questioners was telling.
And that same week Mother Jones released the 47% tape, which they had probably been holding for closer to Election Day.
But, it was Bam was asleep that Tuesday night, when Romney was giving the okay to his team to react responsibly.
When you said the president was “disinterested” I think you meant he was “not interested.” Disinterested means to be unbiased – open to considering opposing positions. It does not mean AWOL, which probably best describes Obama when it comes to national security.
What is this empty suit (or empty chair) in office for? Is it SOLELY to bash whitey and redistribute rich people’s money? Is he completely uninterested in actually doing the job he swore to do?
Two observations:
Look at Sec. Panetta’s body language – he is looking down and avoiding eye contact. He acts as if he’s a parent at a teacher – parent meeting covering for a very badly behaving child. Which he was, figuratively.
Second, Sen. Ayotte’s questions were very legitimate. So why didn’t the press ask them earlier when it was able to ask questions of Panetta? Shame on them. I was also amazed he stated they didn’t know what was going on, but we had a drone sending back camera footage during at least some o the time.
There’s a best selling book in here somewhere, just like Prangle’s “We Slept at Dawn” about Pearl Harbor.
Minor correction, Techmeister: “disinterested” means “having no interest” in the sense of not having a personal stake in a matter. In correct usage, it connotes something very similar to “objective” and “unbiased.”
What Obama was, was UNINTERESTED. This means “not giving a rat’s ass.” A subtle distinction, you will agree.
While we’re at it, I’d like to thank you for all you do.

We’ve known it ever since Choom set a record for voting “Present” in the IL State Senate.
Some people are just now catching up.
The scandal of Benghazi is the Obama Adminstration’s disinterest, before, during and after. http://datechguyblog.com/2013/02/08/the-empty-chair-on-911/

Whoops, missed your update. Sorry to scold the converted, mea culpa maxima.
no prob my bad in the initial error

I wish I could say I was surprised.
What is particularly troubling is that no one outside a few Republicans seem to care.

The best (IMO) single statement uttered by anyone during the 2012 presidential election campaign:
“when somebody isn’t doing the job, we gotta let em go.”

(No points for the correct answer.)
Good story. But “disinterested” does not mean what you think it means.

“Uninterested,” not “disinterested” which means “impartial.”

Stop focusing on trivia. The real issue is whether Lena Dunham, who it appears didn’t actually get aroud to voting, gets her free birth control.
