Last week I was on a conference call with Americans for Prosperity. they put out their scorecard rating each member of congress. It’s an elegant card of excellent use if you want to see exactly how your congressman or Senator did last session.
You can pull your information based on the categories that mean the most to you:

search issue

You can also search by state, name or even by your individual zip code to see how your members of congress have done.

As nice as the page looks, what matters is the score. As you might guess AFP being a fiscally conservative group a person like Rand Paul does pretty well in their rankings:

Rand Paul

91% Pretty good numbers. It will come in handy when Rand Paul runs in 2016 but what about his most visible potential rival in the Senate Marco Rubio?

rubio

100%. A perfect score. That’s pretty impressive but scoring 10% higher than Rand Paul on Economic Freedom?. One would not think that’s possible.

If you are going to run for president as a fiscal conservative and you are scoring nearly 10 points higher than Rand Paul on the AFP scorecard that’s a walking talking Billboard for campaign contributions.

It will be interesting to see if Rubio can keep that score above the Senator from Kentucky. It’s the type of talking point that will play very well in Iowa and New Hampshire.

and That’s how Politics works.

Some things are just so mind blowingly ridiculous that it amazes me that they would be said.

Here is the WSJ article.

By a more than 2-to-1 margin, Americans say Mr. Obama is doing a better job overall than Republicans at attempting to unify the country in a bipartisan way, a new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll finds.

The poll found that 48% of respondents see Mr. Obama as trying to unify the country, compared to 22% who said that of Republicans and 37% who said that of Democrats

Dictionary.com defines “unify” thus:

u·ni·fy
[yoo-nuh-fahy] verb (used with object), verb (used without object), u·ni·fied, u·ni·fy·ing.
to make or become a single unit; unite: to unify conflicting theories; to unify a country.

Now I admit I’m just a blogger and radio talk show host but be definition and not a paid member of NBC or the WSJ but if 48% of the people said Barack Obama is uniting the country, then by definition 52% of the people did not?

No wonder the same media is trying to sell us Sequestration as a cut. They must think we are a nation of idiots.

Then again given the results of he last election…

Update: Glenn links while Sequestration brings back memories of my youth.

My oldest friend’s father has always been a big gambler and poker player. On occasion he would ask his son to take him to Foxwoods casino in CT.

As my friend was not interested in gambling while he dad played poker he needed a way to kill time. His dad would give him a few hundred dollars and tell him to go to the craps table and bet $5 at a time with the house until he was done playing saying he could keep whatever he won and if he lost, it wouldn’t be his money

So my pal would sit there for hours making his $5 bets his dad played in the next room, he would see all kinds of people come to the table, some would win big on points, some would hit naturals and the entire table would cheer while he would sit there with his $5 bets.

By the time his father was done for the day my friend would almost invariably come out go home with several hundred dollars plus enough points for meals and even a hotel stay for a show for the future while his father might be up some days and others days the only money the father would come home with was the $200 seed money my pal would return.

One day he asked his father why he didn’t just go down and play craps all day when he knew the odds were with him. His dad replied that there was no action, betting with the house all day was like work

And that really sums up the two positions on Gun control debate between the left and the right. The left argues the right is peddling fear, to some degree that is true, the fear is of criminals and intruders, but the truth is the left gun control argument is based on a less rational type as is the media coverage.

The conservative position is like that $5 bet with the house. Conservatives understand that criminals and predators are NOT going to be obeying gun laws but furthermore they are out there every single day. If you doubt this for a moment take a look at Chicago and the murder rate. They know there is always the chance of the occasional guy going crazy, but they get that the odds and the math favor self-protection every single day.

The liberal/media/elite position is exactly the opposite. The daily dangers of crime are not much of a worry when you live far beyond the dangers of the city, or in a gated community or if you and or your employer can afford an armed guards in their workplace. to the daily murders in the cities aren’t worthy of the national media.

But there is always the random nut, the random stalker,  that one person over the edge no matter how rare, That’s the type of guy who might not care if a bodyguard takes him out as long has he gets his shot at the target and the chance for fame.

The left and the elites say it’s all about fear when it comes to the apparently correct concerning of the right, but the dirty little secret has always been it’s all about fear for them, both of the occasional crazy and of an armed populace who might someday come bearing Madame Guillotine to take away all they have.
