Some things are just so mind blowingly ridiculous that it amazes me that they would be said.
NBC-WSJ poll: By 48%-43%, Americans say Obama takes “unifying” rather than “partisan” approach. By 64%- 22%, they say GOP does the opposite
— John Harwood (@JohnJHarwood) February 26, 2013
Here is the WSJ article.
By a more than 2-to-1 margin, Americans say Mr. Obama is doing a better job overall than Republicans at attempting to unify the country in a bipartisan way, a new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll finds.
The poll found that 48% of respondents see Mr. Obama as trying to unify the country, compared to 22% who said that of Republicans and 37% who said that of Democrats
Dictionary.com defines “unify” thus:
u·ni·fy
[yoo-nuh-fahy] verb (used with object), verb (used without object), u·ni·fied, u·ni·fy·ing.
to make or become a single unit; unite: to unify conflicting theories; to unify a country.
Now I admit I’m just a blogger and radio talk show host but be definition and not a paid member of NBC or the WSJ but if 48% of the people said Barack Obama is uniting the country, then by definition 52% of the people did not?
No wonder the same media is trying to sell us Sequestration as a cut. They must think we are a nation of idiots.
Then again given the results of he last election…
Update: Glenn links while Sequestration brings back memories of my youth.

Welcome to the real world, Rick, where stuff costs money. For example, housing individuals picked up for immigration violations costs money, therefore, when faced with less funding, lower risk individuals are no longer housed, but are instead released into the community. Community supervision costs less than incarceration.
When you claim that this is a personal decision from the WH, and the reason is that you just know it is, that’s peddling a conspiracy theory. Stop it. Deal in facts.
Lavender,
You are trying to have it both ways. First you say the WH could not have known about it and then you believe some low level functionary decided on his own to release violators. You are still delusional. You have no facts. Community supervision may cost less, but where is the incentive for the supervised to stay supervised rather than to melt into the community. Point of fact, there is no incentive to stay know to the system.
You are still delusional and trying to justify an illegal and immoral act and claim it was unbeknown the people ultimately responsible. Stay delusional if you want, though. It makes you a perfect little lefty.
Your entire defense of this conspiracy theory to criticize the messenger? Come back when you can back up your claims.
This is what happens when funding is cut-something can’t be paid for. Maybe you like the results, maybe you don’t, but this is how an economy works.
It is clear Lavender, you do not understand encumbrance accounting. This is the accounting that governments use. What it means is that money is reserved when a product or service is ordered. Therefore, there is no danger that something will not be paid for, The only thing that a cut means is that if there is no money, something cannot be ordered.
Come back when you understand the process rather than making up your own set of facts.
Please don’t spread these conspiracy theories. The agencies impacted make the determinations about how to deal with the results of sequestration.
You are truly delusional, Lavender. The agencies are not going to make cuts without running them by the White House. That is why I do not believe Napolitano when she says she did not know about the release of illegal immigrants. Of course she knew and of course the President knew. This is an administration which does not delegate but keeps control of everything.
“No wonder the same media is trying to sell us Sequestration as a cut. ”
Unfortunately too many repubs have fallen into the same trap, and refer to the sequestration as a cut, instead of what it is, a slight slowing of the rate of growth. They also make the mistake of saying the sequestration is a bad idea, when what they should be saying is the spending restraint in the sequester is a very good idea, definitely better than more taxes, but that it could be better if the cuts in growth were targeted to the most wasteful parts of gov first. I have noticed that recently on Fox a few repub spokesman, like Rand Paul, have finally wised up and refer to it as a slowing in spending growth.
The repubs should also start warning the people that Obama will purposely administer the cuts in a manner that will cause the most disruption possible (the Washington monument syndrome), and should hold constant hearings where after the disruption starts, they constantly ask Obama dept heads questions like “why didn’t you impliment the cuts by doing X instead of the far more disruptive Y that you actually did do”.
Well actually 48% said he was a unifier, and 43% said he was noit, with the other 9% probably being undecided. So slightly more said he was a unifier, but I agree that is a slim margin. And for both dems and repubs the % for unity is low, slightly lower for repubs. That is not that surprising of a result, since americans naturally tend to think of the prez as the only elected official that speaks for the country as a whole. The surprise is that Obamas margin is not higher, especially given his favorable press.
The number of idiots in this country is around that 22% who said that the Republicans were uniters. You’ll see numbers in that range again and again-those who call themselves Republicans-27% identify as Republican, per Gallup on 1/9/13. 24% believe Obama was born in another country, per Fox News on 4/7/11. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was somewhere in the twenty percents who believe that Reagan never raised taxes. That’s how many right wing deadenders there are in America.
Q: How does 0bama practice water conservation?
A: By only washing his upper regions: the media take care of the nether ones.
The media “logic” remainds me of a joke about the Pravda of old. A friendly race was held between the US ambassador and the Moscow KGB chief. The American won. The next day the Pravda’s headline read: “The American finished next-to-last; the Russian respectably placed second.”
It’s not that Obama is doing a better job of uniting Americans. It’s that the in-the-tank media continually says that he’s doing a better job. People who get their news only from there believe it. People who don’t are just discouraged.
Well, if 48% said this, that is also less than the 51% that voted for him last year. So did the other 3% intentionally vote for a divisive “divide and conquer” celebrity golfer or have they changed their minds since then?
Obama’s entire presidency is centered around uniting. Uniting Dems to hate everyone who doesn’t go along with their recipe for failure.
I am surprised 48% think he is a unifying force. They must not be paying attention because the whole Obama approach is to divide and conquer.
“No wonder the same media is trying to sell us Sequestration as a cut. They must think we are a nation of idiots.”
No, they are fairly certain of it and every day we prove them right.
Leftist “logic”. Ugh.
