Herman Cain had a great line that he would use during his campaign speeches where he would say that if we aren’t careful, we will spend our sunset years telling our grandchildren of when we “used to be free.”  He would go on to say, “That is not a conversation I want to have with my grandchildren.”  (You can watch it here.  Go to around 2:20 of the video). Of course, this drew thunderous applause and was a great line.  I had the opportunity to see Herman Cain speak in person several times during his run in the primaries.  He is a compelling speaker, one of the best I’ve ever seen.  His ability to draw in the crowd is one of the reasons his campaign went as far as it did, I think.

However, reflecting back on the line about remembering when we used to be free, I never thought that I would agree with him so quickly that many of our freedoms are in the past.  There is no way around it, this is a depressing time for conservatives.  It has only been 6 months since President Obama started his second term in office.  His administration continues to release thousands of regulations that reduce our freedoms and cripple our economy.  These regulations occur from every department, from Agriculture to the EPA and so on.

Religious liberty is taking a hit like nothing I’ve ever seen in my life.  It was a given for most of my life (at least from my perspective), that I lived in a society that is tied together by our Judeo-Christian tradition and shared values.  I knew there were those that didn’t believe these things, but most did.  Naïve perhaps, but what we have now is the most brazen attack on religion that I really am afraid we’ve hit a turning point where religious individuals who live their faith are relegated to the minority in a way that is irreversible.

The will of the people has been diminished as courts rule the day.  Our ability to fight back and govern ourselves is limited to what judges allow instead of what people want.  California’s citizens, for instance, did everything in their power to stop same-sex marriage.  They voted twice as a state against it.  But, political maneuvering and the dereliction of duty by state officials led to the voice of the people being overthrown.  Feeling empowered, well-funded organizations such as the Freedom From Religion Foundation are staging battles at every front to completely remove any expression of religion from the public square.

Does anyone really think that the Founding generation would have ever thought that there would be nearly 3 million people employed by the Executive Branch alone?  Even if they knew how many people are in the country now, would they ever have thought that the powers afforded to the executive branch would warrant so many employees?  What are these individuals doing, they would ask.  Are they only performing the limited powers outlined in the Constitution?  Certainly not.  The government has become a bloated, freedom-robbing glob that regulates and taxes everything it sees, regardless of the resulting contraction of liberty spoken of by Ronald Reagan.

Now, looking back at the historical count of Executive Branch employees (see this link), you might say, “but Lisa, the number has been over 2 million since at least 1962, so this is not all Obama’s fault.”  I say to that, who cares?  At this point, who really cares whose fault it is?  Does it really  matter?  Let’s just fix it going forward.  This isn’t about blaming or pointing fingers.

So, here we are on Independence Day Eve.  We will attend barbeques tomorrow and look at fireworks.  We will celebrate a country that was founded on ideals that were the most unique ever conceived in history.  Our country was a precious thing, an ideal, a vision.  The idea that “all men are created equal” was a beacon at the time for the world, an example.  It was the first time in the history of the world that such ideals were the basis for the founding of a nation, a nation that for those reasons alone became the greatest in all of history.

Now, we as a nation are choosing to not be free.  We are choosing to give up those liberties that the Founders recognized were not the government’s to give in the first place.  They were ours before any government ever existed, given to us by God.  Our freedom to live as our religious conscious would dictate is sacred.  Yet, now a company like Hobby Lobby is spending millions so that it doesn’t have to fund abortive contraceptives in its health plan.  Am I the only one that understands how convoluted that is?  Imagine in the framing era saying, “in the future, the government will be so intrusive that it will dictate what benefits must be provided by companies, even if they are squarely opposed by the deeply-held religious beliefs of the company’s owners.”  How absurd would that have sounded to them!

And yet, here we are.  We have worked our way into a pretzel.  Admittedly, much of this was institutionalized during the New Deal, but in today’s world where we are arguably living through the New New Deal, we are so entrenched in this that the ideals of the Tea Party are considered to be extreme!

As I realize that Herman Cain was right on track and mourn for my country, I find myself thinking about the boiling frog syndrome.  We don’t even notice it anymore.

frogpot2

We walk around every day thinking we are free, but the very car we bought, the very toilet seat in our home, the way we are allowed to raise our children, the way we run our businesses, and every other detail in our lives is regulated in some way by the government.  I went to China last summer, and do you know that most of them think they are free, too?  When will we finally wake up and vote based on what is right for our country instead of who gives a better sound bite?

This Fourth of July in the midst of all of the festivities, let’s recommit ourselves to fight for these ideals and pray for our fellow Americans, that they will wake up before we, like the frog, find ourselves in boiling water.

The Muslim Brotherhood is out in Egypt and the media has been….interesting.

All over CNN there is misery as Wolf Blitzer continues to stress the “thousands” of Muslim Brotherhood supporters and emphasize the “legitimacy” of the Morsi government.

On MSNBC Richard Engel gave MSNBC views what is really the first idea that the Muslim Brotherhood might actually consist of radical Islamists. I’m sure the views were shocked SHOCKED.

Fox seems to be focusing on if there will be clashes between the two sides and if the Muslim Brotherhood will fight and what is happening.

I suggest prayers for the people in Egypt and hope their make wise choices and the questions become:

1. Will the Muslim Brotherhood Moderate? No.

2. Will they fight? That’s the big question. if they are smart no, if they lose (and they will against the Military) they become the weak horse and Islamists will be in crisis all over the Middle East but they might figure it is their best shot and maybe only shot to get Egypt back in the short term.

3. Will the Christians be protected? I wouldn’t bet on it.

4. Will there be a less sharia compliant constitution? I suspect slightly

5. Will there be full and free elections? I wouldn’t bet money on it

6. Will the avg Egyptian be better off? Slightly, being free of the Muslim Brotherhood is good but will the military share the wealth? That is the key question.

My prediction: We will end up with 17th Century France with the Military as Richelu. I suspect there will be an election and a “democratic” government but the Military will make sure nothing take place that will put them in a war with Israel that they will lose or risk their monetary control of the country.

As for the US. This is both a victory and a defeat for the US in this respect.

It is s defeat for the US because Obama and Mrs. Clinton backed the losing guy they are linked to the failed regime and the people don’t trust them.

It is a victory because the actual interest of the United States, an Egypt not controlled by Islamists or likely to go to war with Israel, has an excellent chance of happening.

The question becomes if that victory is consistent with the goals of Barack Obama

Update:  Two key updates, first from PJ media & Bridget Johnson

After the Egyptian military announced the end of Mohamed Morsi’s rule flanked by both Egypt’s Coptic Orthodox Pope Tawadros II and Grand Mufti Ahmed al-Tayeb, Islamists began predicting a purge of their kind in the new democratic Egypt.

The Muslim Brotherhood was not represented among the opposition leaders joining the leaders of Egypt’s two largest faiths and the powerful military figures.

“It is wonderful to see the Egyptian people taking back their stolen revolution in a peaceful way,” the Coptic pope said in a statement Tuesday.
That has to be reassuring for Christians but is like a red flag in front of a bull to the Muslim Brotherhood, expect Christians in countries where Islamists in control pay the price for that visual.
ZeroHedge has photos of anti-Obma banners but Glenn Reynolds notices something.
What’s interesting is that the banners are anti-Obama, not anti-America.
That’s not only a good sign but explains CNN ambivalence to these protesters.
Update 2:  Matthews on MSNBC has actually been practicing journalism tonight but the real news is the Obama administration statement of warning concerning US aid.  This is VERY foolish but not surprising considering how many friends the Muslim Brotherhood has in this administration.  As Pam Geller put it:
CAIR, ISNA, MSA, MSU all of them are on a jihad to save the Muslim Brotherhood. It is of course, sheer poetry that the vicious Muslim Brotherhood  was overthrown on the eve of Independence day. 80 years ago today, the Muslim Brotherhood was founded. Today, the Egyptians cut the MBs head off.
Hamas isn’t happy either likely because of this:
Security forces found explosives in the apartment, as well as military and police uniform. A security source told Egyptian newspaper Al-Ahram that the four were members of Hamas.
Well I know what we’re talking about Saturday on DaTechguy on DaRadio

It isn’t often that I disagree with Elizabeth Scalia on a matter of religion but this story is one of them.

For the few who don’t know. At the Texas capital as the new Abortion bill comes up for a vote a group of pro-life activists starting singing the traditional song Amazing Grace.

However the supporters of Wendy Davis and abortion were not to be outdone. Last weekend on every Sunday Show they the pro-abortion left lionized Wendy Davis and talked about her fight against Governor Rick Perry. Their supporters and Democrats around the country urged their supporters to show up and the Texas capital and fight. So when the pro-lifes sang Amazing Grace the flower of the Democrat Party, these brave warriors of the left, these people determined to prevent people from oppressing woman, fully supported by the national left replied thus:

Hail Satan? Really, as American Glob put it:

Maybe the makers of the History Channel’s Bible series were on to something after all…

Well I’m not convinced.  The CNN Reporter MUST be wrong.  Where is the video, I’m sure the Democrat National Campaign Committee, Emily’s List, Planned Parenthood, Media Matters and NOW will emulate the late Andrew Breitbart’s $100,000 challenge to produce actually video to back up this CNN reporters statement:

or not

Now the Anchoress being a kindhearted and godly person says this:

You get a gang of already pumped up, hysterical (and in some cases terribly, terribly young) idolators fully indoctrinated to the creed and the church of the Idol-of-I, and start singing “Amazing Grace” you’re striking at a jugular vein of the idol and the hysterics — having nothing to fall back on but the empty creed of self-worship, which contains no grace at all — have no depth in their recourse. All they have left in their bag of tricks is shock and chaos.

Last night they fell back on “shock.” Chaos will come later, and believe me, a mindless, stupidly spiteful chanting of “hail Satan” won’t be the half of it.

They know not what they do, though — very likely those who are not being paid to be useful idiots for The Party are members of The Church of What’s Happening Now, who can’t resist an urge to participate in this week’s “be-in”.

and advises the following:

Which is why I rather concur with this guy on Twitter:

Wow, the “hail Satan” thing is such a troll. Make fun of it or ignore it. No good can come of making a big deal out of it.

— Political Math (@politicalmath) July 3, 2013

I respect Elizabeth very much, but I have to disagree.

One of the things that our friends on the left have done for a long time is dodge just what abortion is, what it means and who it serves ask yourself why you can see all kind of medical procedures on TV but never abortion, why nothing engages the left more than the graphic pictures of the same.

It’s because it illustrates the truth of what abortion is and what it has always been.

In my opinion it is important to not allow our pols or these groups off the hook.

Every single reporter and every single pol who pushed Wendy Davis, who celebrated Wendy Davis and who urged people to go out and support Wendy Davis be made to distance themselves from the statements of these protesters. They should be made to stand or run as the GOP was made to do with Todd Akin.

They should be made to own this, the Lonely Conservative’s bumper stickers should be made it as one person said on twitter

This is life and death, literally let’s act this way.

I’ll give the last word to Captain Ed Morrissey:

The overall effect of chanting “Hail Satan”? That’s another story, but one of those effects is surely clarity.

Bingo!

God Damn you don’t cheer me…Fight!

General Phil Sheridan 1864

There have already been minor signs that the left is not hopeful for the 2014 midterm elections but yesterday the democrats and the administration gave a giant sign that they see disaster ahead:

Businesses won’t be penalized next year if they fail to provide workers health insurance after the Obama administration decided to delay a key requirement under its signature 2010 health-care law.

The government will postpone enforcement of the so-called employer mandate until 2015, the administration said today. Under the provision, companies with 50 or more workers face a fine of as much as $3,000 per employee if they don’t offer affordable insurance.

With Barack Obama no longer on the ballot there is no incentive for black America to turn out to prevent him from being considered a one term failure (Which was apparently more important to Black America than actually having a failed president for four more years and living with the consequences).

This makes it imperative that the low information voters who still haven’t figured out what Obamacare is going to do to them, don’t see what coming, at least not during this election cycle anyway.

But you don’t want people to know you’ve delayed it. After all some democrats are still touting Obamacare and Democrats operatives still insist Obamacare will create jobs, become popular, clear your acne, get you laid and make the need for Viagra totally unnecessary. How do you delay it without the public noticing?

The answer is this you leak out the news two days before the fourth of July while congress is out-of-town, the President is in Africa, George Zimmerman is on trial, almost every single news anchor is on vacation and a vast amount of Americans are paying less attention than ever.

That tells you how afraid they are, they know the move is needed to help in 2014 but don’t dare have anyone who isn’t paying attention realize it. What does that tell me the GOP should do for election 2014?

“Ride right through them, etc etc etc”

Now during the LAST Election Cycle when I pointed out each and every move the left made that indicated demoralization (Little did I know they were demoralized as hell enough to use the IRS to stop the tea party but I digress) I didn’t bother to give Mitt Romney & the GOP advice on what to do with it because I foolishly believed that the Mitt Romney campaign was run by smart people who realized elections aren’t beanbag.

Unfortunately, little did I realize that even with the White House at state, the GOP establishment in general and the Romney Campaign in particular were only interested in playing hardball when facing their base or the tea party.

So from now on when do a:  Demoralized as hell post:  I’m going to tell them how to ride right through them.

Here is what needs to be done:

1. Conservative bloggers: We need to write about it. If we live in Democrat districts we need to ask our Dem Reps attending 4th of July Parades ON CAMERA what they think of this move and post it and when we write about the races in the future we need to constantly reference and reinforce it. We also need to challenge potential Democrat candidates on this question in every race that we have access to.

2. Tea parties: We need letters to the editor by members and op-eds from the local chapter presidents written to run from Sunday to Monday to make sure it is seen

3. Potential GOP congressional candidates for House and the senate need to guest themselves on local Radio & TV and talk about this, make sure if you appear during the weekend or Monday you bring this up.

4. The House leadership: You have two options one is  bolder than the other but whichever choice you make PUSH IT:

PLAN A. Extremely Bold: The House could bring up a vote mandating the immediate implementation of Obamacare.

Such a bill puts the democrats on the spot, if democrats in the house are smart and vote against it en masse you can make it a practically unanimous vote and you have a talking point that MUST be repeated by every member on every show: Obamacare is so bad the democrats practically voted unanimously to not implement it.

If they are dumb enough vote for it, generate enough votes to send it to the senate, saying: “We disagree but the Democrats insist Obamacare is vital so in the spirit of co-operation we’re going to give them a chance to prove it”.

The senate is where the real action is

Harry Reid now has a choice, does he bring up the vote and have his 21 democrats running for re-election including all the swing seat democrats vote for this or does he dodge?

You want him in that spot every single day and you want every single GOP challenger in those 21 districts to be pushing this question.

The risk: Dems pass this, the train wreck comes early and the GOP gets some blame for it but it comes pre-election.

Plan B: Less bold Offer a bill to mandate that no provisions of Obamacare are implemented till all are.

The argument is simple, Obamacare has been the law of the land for 3 years and it’s coming in piecemeal.  This is making it harder and harder.  The bill would simply mandate that the three-year old law’s provisions are all implemented together.

Since this law is supposedly so beneficial what is the case of the democrats saying no?  If they maintain it takes time to do so point out it they’ve already had 3 years and continue to PUSH it.

5.  The Base:  Yes you dear reader has a part in this.  When bloggers post about it, Tea Party members write their letters, potential GOP candidates talk about it and a GOP congress use their tactic, TALK about it.  Put it on Facebook, on twitter, make sure your friends and neighbors those low information voters see it.  Amply our voice as we try to amply yours.

and that is how you Ride Right Through them.

Yesterday was an invisible day for the Tip jar. Unfortunately the Bills don’t care if it’s a holiday week or no and I’m still $203 shy of my first full paycheck since May.

If you think I’m worth it consider hitting DaTipJar below.
