Let’s see, we have two sex-addicted dishonest politicians running for office in New York, Obama just rolled out a sweeping plan to solve the global-warming problem that Senator Boxer’s own experts testified to a Senate committee doesn’t exist, a filibuster by a feminist legislature in Texas got more media attention than the whole Gosnell trial, and Al Sharpton has again reminded us why the only network that would give him a job is MSNBC.

In other words, we’ve had enough craziness for now.  Let’s take a break and focus on something that doesn’t make you want to move to Canada.  How about some political trivia?  I bet you didn’t know that Croatia was the first country to recognize the United States in 1776.  I’ve grabbed some of the more interesting factoids from a site that has tons of these (to see the source of the trivia, click here).  The color commentary in the parenthesis is from me:

  • Theodore Roosevelt was the first American President to win the Nobel Peace Prize. He won for his arbitration of treaty discussions at the end of the Russo-Japanese War. (that’s a real reason to win a Nobel Peach Prize)
  • The only four countries that start with the letter “D” are Denmark, Djibouti, Dominica and the Dominican Republic.
  • Americans pay over $30,500 in federal, state, and local taxes every second (that I believe, probably more since this was printed)
  • Before Bill Clinton, no left-handed American president had ever served two
  • In England, the Speaker of the House is not allowed to speak.
  • Winston Churchill, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Theodore Roosevelt and Eleanor Roosevelt were all cousins through one connection or another. FDR and Eleanor were about five times removed.
  • FDR was the most superstitious president — he traveled continually but never left on a Friday. He also wouldn’t sit at the same table that held thirteen other people.
  • Of all U.S. Presidents, none lived to be older than John Adams, who died at the age of 91.
  • President John Quincy Adams owned a pet alligator which he kept in the East Room of the White House.
  • John Quincy Adams took his last skinnydip in the Potomac on his seventy-ninth birthday.
  • Jimmy Carter was the first president born in a hospital.
  • Gerald Ford pardoned Robert E. Lee posthumously of all crimes of treason.
  • Gerald Ford was once a male model.
  • The lightest President of the United States was James Madison who was 5′ 4″ and weighed under 100 pounds. The tallest was Lincoln at 6′ 4″. The heaviest was Howard Taft who, at times, weighed over 300 pounds. Source: “Knowledge in a Nutshell”
  • Andrew Jackson was the only U.S. President to believe that the world is flat.
  • President Andrew Jackson spent most of his adult life with a bullet no more than two inches away from his heart as a result of a duel he fought before becoming President.
  • President Taft got stuck in his bathtub on his Inauguration Day and had to be pried out by his attendants.
  • The reason Maryland did not seceed from the Union in 1865 was that President Lincoln had the state legislators arrested.
  • George Washington’s false teeth were made of whale bone.
  • George Washington was deathly afraid of being buried alive. After he died, he wanted to be layed out for three days just to make sure he was really dead.
  • George Washington had to borrow money to go to his own inauguration.
  • James K. Polk was the only President to have been Speaker of the House. (Sorry, Newt)
  • Julie Nixon, daughter of Richard Nixon, married David Eisenhower, grandson of Dwight D. Eisenhower.
  • Harrison was the only president born in the same county as his vice president.
  • Ronald Reagan and his wife Nancy Davis appeared opposite each other in the movie “Hellcats of the Navy.”
  • Ronald Reagan was the only President who studied economics in college. (this really should be a requirement for all Presidents)
  • When the Hoovers did not want to be overheard by White House guests, they spoke to each other in Chinese.
  • William Howard Taft was the first President to own a car.
  • When Harry Truman left office in 1952 he got in his own car and drove himself back to Missouri.
  • According to historian Doris Kearns Goodwin, Lyndon Johnson loved the soda Fresca so much he had a fountain installed in the Oval Office that dispensed the beverage, which the president could operate by pushing a button on his desk chair. Fresca is a grapefruit- flavored soda sold on the East Coast.
  • The Baby Ruth candy bar was actually named afte Grover Cleveland’s baby daughter, Ruth.
  • There was some question as to whether Barry Goldwater could legaly serve as President. The Constitution requires presidents to be born in the United States. Goldwater was born in Arizona before it was a state. (We’ll remember this if Ted Cruz runs for President)

Update: I have corrected the statement that David Eisenhower is President Eisenhower’s son, his is actually his grandson.  Thanks to Ellen Kolb for the correction in the comments.

Today at his site Stacy McCain mentioned the connection between the downfall of Anthony Weiner and issue that several bloggers who were involved in the same had:

I’ve got a particular interest in the question of who ID’d Sydney Leathers because, for months, Ladd Ehlinger Jr. has entertained the possibility that the harassment of Brett Kimberlin’s enemies was somehow being funded by supporters of Anthony Weiner.

Speculation isn’t my business, but when you observe extraordinary behavior, you can’t preemptively rule out extraordinary motives.

While who is paying Team Kimberlin is an interesting question I think a more interesting question is this:

What donors have chosen to invest in Anthony Weiner and his future?

To answer that question you have to look Where Anthony Weiner one was

Before his fall Anthony Weiner was the perfect man for this type of donor. A man to watch he was an ultra liberal on almost every issue, he was a man who not only went the full Obama but was a fighter, a man to watch. You couldn’t miss him on TV constantly debating and defending the president and all he believed inHe rose through NH politics protege of Chuck Schumer and in 2009 the world seems to be his oyster.

At least until he crashed.

Now lets consider political donors there are really four kinds of them:

1. The True Believers: They believe in a cause or a person so deeply that they are willing to invest their money in them. These are the people that are constantly getting calls and the e-mail from the various parties. (a lot of small donors fit that description).

Before the fall: He wold be a natural for their money and adoration, the Obama/Liberal point man.

After the fall: It’s really unlikely that too many of these would stay on board with Anthony Weiner. His lying to their face would chase off the personal givers and the cause bearers could find other candidates who believe the same to give to. Nor would they be likely to finance a campaign of revenge.

2. The Protection Racket: These are the people who give something to both sides as insurance so they’ll just leave them alone when it comes time to regulation and the like.

Before the fall: Weiner would get the dollars for people who wanted to cover themselves with the Obama team

After the fall: These people give to cover themselves, after Weiner’s downfall there would be no incentive to give and such givers would likely wait until after the runoff to hedge their bests, particularly given Weiner’s past.

3. The Groupies: These are vanity donors. They give so they can say they are involved, so they can talk about how connected they are convince themselves how much they matter. This is a very common animal in the cocktail circuit in the big cities

Before the fall: Weiner as a TV celeb would be a prime materal for this money.

After the fall:How much status can you get at a party by saying “I’m Anthony Weiner’s backer?”

But then there is the 4th type. These are the are the investors. These are the people who have an agenda and decide a particular pol has the talent and ability to advance it. If your cause is particularly shady the willingness to advance said agenda is more critical that the amount of talent.

Before the fall: He would be a prime investment for a person wanting power or influence, a rising star in the party, possible future Mayor of NY with the senior Senator of the state behind him. And if you had a bad or unpopular cause you might sink in a LOT

After the crash it’s different, Remember he didn’t just crash he crashed in disgrace, tried to blame Brietbart for what happened, (Resulting in my NY Post piece & appearance on Fox) He alleged he was hacked and not only was exposed as a liar, but had the ignominy of Andrew Breitbart holding court at his mike before his own press conference could begin

Now it’s certainly possible that Anthony Weiner was so beloved by people who even after his fall groups of people were willing to devote hundreds or thousands of hours to defend him and go after those who were responsible for his fall and it’s not impossible that Congressman Weiner was able to find new investors willing to sustain him and push a his candidacy for Mayor on the off in the hopes that he could overcome the previous embarrassment and scandal and get what would be considered a higher profile position than he held before his fall.

But that would seem unlikely. I’d say it’s much more likely you would need someone with a bad or unpopular cause that’s it’s difficult to find another person willing to go along or a group with such a large or critical investment in Mr. Weiner that it still worthwhile to devote the cash necessary to punish his foes and advance a second rise from the ashes in the hopes of recovering the situation over time.

I wonder who that might be?

Coune de Guiche: Have you read Don Quiote

Cyrano: I have and found myself the hero

Count de Guiche: Be so good as to read once more the chapter with the windmills.

Cyrano: Chapter 13

Count de Guiche: Windmills remember if you fight with them may swing round their huge arms and cast you down into the mire!..

Cyrano: …or up among the stars!

Cyrano de Bergerac 1950

I highly recommend the entire movie:

Planet of the Apes 1968

I see an awful lot of people on the net Ann Althouse Smitty, Neo Neocon to Richard Epstein to pointing out the obvious weakness in the arguments of the Al Sharpton, the Jessie Jacksons and the various democrat race pimps who spent this weekend in rallies (rallies, I suspect much smaller than anyone in the media want to admit) and still trying to sell the story of the George He doesn’t count as black or hispanic, really he doesn’t Zimmerman killing a young black man over race.

But while it is vital to keep pointing out these truths and making sure that people who aren’t paying attention know these facts there is one very important thing that has to be understood. Their target audience is not the black community.

Now that might seem counter intuitive in doing when doing this. If you are looking to change the media meme, to counteract the power of the meme police it would seem necessary to make the sale to the black community to, as Bill Whittle does present the evidence that can’t be disputed:

Even so if you are choosing to make this case to the black community you are wasting your time.

The vast majority of the black community already know it.

Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton and Joan Walsh may like to pretend that the Black community in 2013 is being held back by the Bull Connors of the 50’s.  They will pretend there are rednecks stopping their community at the voting booths, and may can paint a picture of intact black families cowering in their homes and apartments as the Klan, Confederate flags flying proudly drive through their neighborhood looking for black teens to kill, and some liberals and low information voters might actually believe it.

The Black community doesn’t.  They live in those cities, they vote in those neighborhoods and know who is pulling the trigger when their children are killed.  They live these realities every single day.

Then why do they put up with it?  Fairly simple

They find the message of the Jacksons, Sharptons and Walshs a most comfortable lie and that official lie endorsed by the media elite remains more palatable than admitting the truth, at least in the hearing of the wrong people.

And as long as that is true, they will continue to be silent in the face of it, and nothing will change.

“Bring it on”

Andrew Breitbart Lexington MA

Remember when the AG of New Hampshire was making noise about James O’Keefe? Well during an event in Nashua last night he had a message for the state:

I’m going to come to the 2016 presidential primary here in NH. And I’m going to expose the fact that I can be voting the names of dead people AGAIN.

The O’Keefe event in Nashua attracted a small crowd of GOP activists and pols to a local country club where O’Keefe gave a presentation about his work, a small clip:

When the presentation was done he took a couple of questions from me

and various voters on different subjects

He also sat for a longer interview on his book Breakthrough once the event was over

There was also a first-rate presentation by Andrew Hemingway which was one of the most intelligent breakdowns of how voter data should be used that I’ve heard. He spoke to me afterwards

His NH Republican leadership institute deserves a closer look.

and there was one more bit of news that was made last night on the NH Senate Race by Karen Testerman.

I’ve met and spoke to Karen Before, in my opinion she’ll make a fine Senator if NH is wise enough to elect her.

I’m posting this pretty early in the morning, but perhaps I’ll contact the NH AG’s office for comment on James’ statements, or perhaps he’ll take a trip to the Radison in Manchester on Thursday, because James will be speaking there from 5-7 and I wouldn’t be surprised if he repeats those statements there.

Update:  added the Breitbart quote and the text of what O’Keefe said.
