Aaron Conor: We grow up knowing exactly what our society needs from us; what we are expected to do.

You’ve got to be taught before it’s too late,
Before you are six or seven or eight,
To hate all the people your relatives hate,
You’ve got to be carefully taught!

You might remember Andrea XX from a set of tweets last week and this post at RS McCain’s site where she discovered that part of the public nature of debate on the internet is occasionally you have to defend your opinion or deal with mockery if it’s really out there.
She wrote a long response at her blog that among other things said that a link to her “about” page was the same as “Doxing” (that is giving out personal info) because a person on the net might choose to pursue such information. That a graduate student would be using that kind of logic is pretty scary but not as scary as her job prospects.
“I have a honors BA and I’m defending my MA thesis in two weeks. I am also apply for jobs and I can only find stuff in the service industry. I applied for a Hotel Front Desk Clerk job today. My degrees mean NOTHING. I am at the end of my rope.“
As a general rule there is never a bad time to mock radical feminism but when I woke up Saturday after a horrible Friday and saw the Instalanche on her cry of desperation another emotion hit me.
Not because she’s been teased, but because she’s been taken.
It hit me that Andrea XX wasn’t BORN into a “gender studies” major or saw a Re-run of Maude and decided that is what she would do with her life. She had to be carefully taught
She had to be taught that Judeo-Christian culture was oppressive. She had to be carefully taught that the culture that brought forth most of the freedoms of the world, the culture that is responsible for everything from hospitals & education for the poor to the end of slavery which long predated it was an evil thing to be resisted.
She had to be taught that American exceptionalism was false. She had to be carefully taught the concept that anyone could come from any land and any culture and become an American was a myth, a false construct, even though no other nation in history was formed on that basis. She had to learn to ignore the evidence of her own eyes.
She had to be taught that opposition to the US, particularly the US military, was a noble thing. She had to carefully taught and groomed in this belief. Never mind that without that military South Koreans would be starving and eating grass like the north, Either the Nazi Goose Step or the Soviet Gulag would rule Europe and beyond with an iron unforgiving fist and Kuwait would be the 19th province of an Iraq that still fed people into shredders if they resisted the demands of Saddam Hussein or his sons.
She had to be taught the evil of capitalism: She had to be carefully taught that the one system in the entire history of mankind that has regularly improved the lot of the masses, the system that has given ordinary people like herself conveniences that Kings and Princes who had the power of life and death over their subject could only dream of in centuries gone by, is a tool to oppress the masses, particularly women.
She had to be taught that a person’s biology & DNA were meaningless, She had to be carefully taught that a person can simply decide what sex they are and it is a reality, not desire or wishful thinking. (Should I be able to force people to accept me as a Time Lord?)
All of these things, the opposite of reality had to be carefully taught and none of this happened overnight. It took years of her life at the age when she was the most impressionable and least experienced.
And by the time she got to college they had her and her college professors and guidance kept her in that direction: peace studies, gender studies , social justice I’m sure they continued to encourage her and her grades soared she they reaffirmed her choices celebrating her intelligence while taking advantage of her lack of wisdom.
And now with every cent of tuition possible extracted from her, and a decade or more of indoctrination she now finds herself released into the wild. With no prospects, no marketable skills and a set of beliefs diametrically opposed to those needed to excel in a world that, while much easier than the one her grandparents and distant ancestors had to earn their daily bread in, still is based on reality, not the Marxist claptrap she was taught.
In other words she was taken, used and deceived and when she finds herself not useful enough to the cause tossed into the water for the first time in her life without a clue how to swim.
I’m angry for her, she has been played for a fool and has been for years, but I’m angrier at the knowledge that there are thousands upon thousands just like her in the same trap and still don’t know it.
But now I’ll address young Andrea directly let me give you the message that the Marxists that steered you did not. A hopeful note, no matter how far you have gone in the wrong direction the first step on the right path is to simply stop. Young Andrea, you can’t get back all those years, but you can decide that if you can’t get work in social justice at the socially just $15 minimum you can still succeed.
Get that Hotel clerk job. Work that front desk, be the best hotel clerk in the hotel you are in. Learn the business, and learn about people. All kinds pass though a hotel, you’ll learn more about the actual human condition simply watching people every day than anything you picked up in school.
If you find you like that job, go for promotion and advance in that field. If not, do it so well that when you apply for another elsewhere you’ll have the confidence and drive to get it. If you manage to save enough (and pay down the college loans you may have) start a business using the skills you acquire.
I will not deceive you. None of this will be easy, particularly in these economic times. You will work harder and longer than you ever have and there will be days when you will be angry and frustrated, I’ve had plenty of them and they really stink. I have the advantage of a fine wife to help me though them, if you don’t already have someone hopefully there will be a fellow who can do the same for you.
Don’t fail because of the majors you were talked into, succeed in spite of them. You are a human being, a child of God and you have within you the spark to make something out of nothing.
You will find, much to your surprise I’m sure, that many of the people who are poking fun at your bad decisions, those people who you’ve been taught are paternalistic, misogynistic religious fanatics will not only give you encouragement but maybe even a helping hand in achieving that success I’ve described, if you simply ask.
Think about it.
Update: An Instalanche is a great way to start a month, also one person in comments noted Andrea is Canadian, but the example still holds, because the Canadians were once as strong socially as we once were (some of the toughest fighters in both WW 1 & 2) Finally on twitter Mark Smotherman recommends this piece at Legal Insurrection be read in conjunction with mine in case you doubt this deception is being deliberately fostered on college students.
But that explanation is worth a post of its own
My own small success at this time is predicated on a $305 weekly paycheck. To achieve it I need 15 tip jar hitters every week to kick in $20.
This has not been an easy thing but for the past 7 months it has managed to pay the mortgage. Today begins month 8. If you think this is a worthwhile goal please hit DaTipJar below.
and of course if you don’t want to hit my tip jar click here to find out how I can hit YOURS for up to $400?
