Why are the Liberal NY Elite Angry?

I’ve very confused by the DeBlasio plow story.

For those of you who don’t pay attention you might recall the incredible celebration by the media at the election of Mr. DeBlasio.  How he was going to be the harbinger of the next great progressive era.  The left couldn’t contain themselves in their happiness

The New York Times: A New Era for Progressives De Blasio’s Win Is Sign of Working Families Party’s Advance

Robert Reich beaming on Facebook:

Does de Blasio’s election mark the beginning of a new progressive era similar in scope and achievement to the one that began in 1901, when another New Yorker, Teddy Roosevelt, became President of the United States?

And the Washington Post make sure everyone knew there was a new sheriff in town:

If there was any doubt remaining over whether Bill de Blasio would shrink from his populist rhetoric once he became mayor of New York City, his inauguration Wednesday should erase it—at least for now.

And then came the storm and the neighborhoods of the progressive rich didn’t get plowed:

“I can’t believe de Blasio could do this. He is putting everyone in danger,” said Barbara Tamerin, who was using ski poles to get around 81st Street and Lexington Avenue.

“What is he thinking? We’re supposed to get up to a foot of snow and nobody on the Upper East Side is supposed to blink an eye?

Al Roker was not pleased:

NBC weatherman Al Roker ripped de Blasio for not being better prepared for the storm.

“They claimed it caught them off guard, that it came in early,” Roker said on the “Today” show. “No, no, no, it didn’t! They should have been watching us!”

That got some traction and comment by TV hosts.  A reporter from the Daily Beast produced a map:

and questions at Mediate as well.

But all of this confuses me.

Haven’t these same rich progressive and their trust fund babies who took over parts of the city in 2012 been telling us that inequality is the scourge of the world?  Haven’t they told us how selfish we are with our cars and our iPods and the oil we use to heat our houses?

Yet suddenly when they are not the first they are shocked SHOCKED that this might be the ones left behind.

If I was cynical I might think that our liberal friends dedication to the cause of equality ends when it means any inconvenience to them but that can’t be the case, they folks celebrated the coming of the new progressive era I’m sure they don’t mind a little inconvenience on the behalf of the cause.

And if they do, well that the beauty of an elected government you always get the government you deserve.
