Ukraine Obama Media defense Plan A: Deny Deny Deny

Mrs. Teasdale: Your Excellency, I thought you’d left!

Duck Soup 1933

A few days ago I talked about the media problem of figuring out how far Putin plans to go in order to set the goal for the Administration just beyond it. This will allow President Obama to declare “victory” regardless of how much of the Ukraine becomes part of either Russia or a new Russia Satellite Crimea.

While that is the long term goal whose parameters can’t be set yet, the left still has to deal with stopping current damage like this:

Palin: Obama known for ‘mom jeans’

As the story says:

America is not a country that the rest of the world wants to emulate “because of Obama’s weak leadership, leading from behind,” Palin said. Other countries are taking advantage of America’s weakness, she added, caused by Obama’s failure to understand “peace through strength.”

“Anybody who carries the common-sense gene knows that Putin doesn’t change his stripes.”

It’s not unexpected that Sarah Palin would have such a thing to say about Barack Obama, what IS odd is that Politico would feature it.

And that’s just a few days after a time magazine reporter tweeted this:

So that has to be countered and at once. The media has come up with Plan A: Deny Deny Deny!

The Guardian: Don’t listen to Obama’s Ukraine critics: he’s not ‘losing’ – and it’s not his fight

Missing from this “analysis” about how Obama should respond is why Obama should respond. After all, the US has few strategic interests in the former Soviet Union and little ability to affect Russian decision-making.

Yeah that “leader of the Free World stuff” is a cold war relic.

And Time is right behind them: 4 Reasons Putin Is Already Losing in Ukraine

Russia’s isolation from the West will deepen dramatically. In June, Putin was planning to welcome the leaders of the G-8, a club of Western powers (plus Japan), in the Russian resort city of Sochi. But on Sunday, all of them announced they had halted their preparations for attending the summit in protest at Russia’s intervention in Ukraine. So much for Putin’s hard-fought seat at the table with the leaders of the Western world.

and some lefty blogs are jumping on the narrative.

While that’s all fine and dandy it runs into two realities one that Gov Palin brought up:

Reality #1 Thanks to energy Putin has leverage over Europe:

Palin said not only did she correctly predict in 2008 that Russia would move into Ukraine, but she is right about the connection between energy and prosperity. Those countries like Russia that develop their natural resources can strengthen their military and influence in the world,

And that Energy gives Putin & Russia leverage in Europe.

As a major natural gas producer, Russia may be able to threaten Europe with winter supply disruptions in the midst of the Ukraine crisis,

In the short term the mild winter Europe is having (as contrasted to us this year) will give them some wiggle room, however Russia will be in the Ukraine for a very long time. When Europe finds itself paying more for gas giving Putin who will likely still be here after 2016 what he wants will be a lot more attractive than providing a lame duck Barack Obama with political cover.

Reality #2 Russia HAS Crimea

Spin or or spin once can’t deny the evidence of current Reporting, Putin remains in Crimea and it’s is conceded by almost everyone that this is a fait accompli.

No amount of spin or talk can change that actual fact and as long as the international media continues to cover this story the media spin is not going to work.

And of course if he manages to seize MORE of Ukraine then the problem becomes even more difficult.

Still one has to start somewhere and if the MSM is going to provide cover and to build an alternative narrative this can be the cornerstone and once we get to the endgame and the goalposts are set these will be the reference point the MSM will construct their house of cards on.

We are laughing now but in 2016 the media will be spinning furiously and the same MSM that is showing images that dispute these foolish claims will reference them to the voters with short attention spans.

Count on it.

Update: Great Minds & etc…

Translation: “That thing you thought you saw did not actually happen.”
In the initial reaction to Putin’s Crimean invasion, everyone saw it as an obvious embarrassment to Obama.
Then the clever liberals went to work, re-arranging the facts. Within a few days, they will have convinced us (a) that anyone who criticizes Obama for what happened in Ukraine is a neocon chickenhawk who wants to start World War Three, and (b) that Obama’s leadership in this crisis has been faultless, praiseworthy and arguably even heroic. Because in the eyes of liberals, it could never be otherwise.

A few days ago I talked about the media problem of figuring out how far Putin plans to go in order to set the goal for the Administration just beyond it. In the initial reaction to Putin’s Crimean invasion, everyone saw it as an obvious embarrassment to Obama.
