it doesn’t make sense. If we could only find out what He is really up to! Hypothesis after hypothesis has been tried, and still we can’t find out. Yet we must never lose hope; more and more complicated theories, fuller and fuller collections of data, richer rewards for researchers who make progress, more and more terrible punishments for those who fail – all this, pursued and accelerated to the very end of time, cannot, surely, fail to succeed.

C.S. Lewis The Screwtape Letters #19

Today we discovered that Rush Limbaugh has won the Children’s Choice Book Award for his best selling childrens book Rush Revere and the Brave Pilgrims.

Rush’s site has his acceptance speech as accepted the award here’s part of it

I love America. I wish everybody did. I hope everybody will. It’s one of the most fascinating stories of human history, this country and what it has meant to the world and what it means to citizens who live here. And it’s a delight and it’s an opportunity to try to share that story with young people so that they can grow and learn to love and appreciate the country in which they’re growing up and will someday run and lead and inherit.

So I want to thank everybody that’s made this possible.

It genuinely is a thrill. This is a tremendous event. I’m so honored by this. I’m honored to be here among all of you and all of the other nominees for this and the other categories. It’s just a wonderful evening, and I thank everybody who had anything to do with it, particularly the kids who voted in every category. It is a great project that you have going here, children’s literacy and to expand it. And the organization and the work that you’re doing is just profound. And I’m honored and humbled to be a small, little part of it.

That Rush would win is not a big surprise, he has a huge audience base with plenty of parents and grandparents who would naturally be buying this book for their kids and grandkids. That’s a ready-made voter base.

However for the media such a win is a disaster. It’s bad enough that Rush is writing children’s books, that puts him in the front lines of culture wars in the spot that he can do the most good for the right. Even worse winning such an award legitimizes him in a way that simply can not be allowed.

So how did the media decide to write about this story, by implying the fix was in:

Rush Limbaugh wins children’s book award

Rush Limbaugh wins Children’s Choice Book Award, but did kids do all the choosing?

That headline guaranteed anyone glimpsing the story would think something was up, and if you read the story it got even worse.

But executive director Robin Adelson of the Children’s Book Council and Every Child a Reader, nonprofit organizations that co-founded the awards seven years ago, acknowledged Thursday that adults could easily vote and vote multiple times, a problem not uncommon for Internet competitions.

Mind you there was no actual evidence that the vote was fixed or anything funny was going on, but out of the 11 paragraphs of the story 10 of them were about the possibility of the vote being fixed, how it could be done et/al. and if you look at the language used it would appear this was the story the AP reporter wished to write and that was it.

I found myself curious if this line had been taken before concerning this award so I took the liberty of going to the site getting the contact information and calling Ms. Adelson and asked her about the awards.

She said this was the seventh year of the awards. I asked he about press coverage in the past and she told me every year press releases would be sent out announcing nominations and winners. I asked if the press had contacted her about the awards in past years and she answered they had.

I then mentioned the AP story above and asked if in any past years the press had inquired about the integrity of the voting for the award. Not only did she say the press never had questioned the integrity of the award in the past but stressed that there was absolutely no reason to question the integrity of the vote this year either.

She is a very pleasant woman, we chatted a bit about the awards in general (I didn’t realize that comics & manga were included) and when we were done I thanked her for her time. I enjoyed our conversation but I felt rather insulted on her behalf.

Here is a woman who is doing God’s work, promoting literacy in kids. This year her organization and awards ceremony gets significant publicity as one of the most popular radio hosts in history is nominated and wins. So what is the story that the media reports?

This fix could be in!

Never mind that Ms. Adelson and all who work for her deserve praise for the service they do for society promoting literacy in an age dominated by game systems and smart phones.

Never mind that there is no evidence of any shenanigans in the voting.

Never mind their programs such as Children’s Book Week (CBW) and The National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature program along with the awards (which included many other categories.

The bottom line is Rush Limbaugh won this award therefore the award’s integrity must be discredited! And if such an action by extension taints the people involved in ensuring it, that’s a shame but the necessity of discrediting Rush Limbaugh in any way possible trumps it.

How disgusting, how insulting, and how typical.

Instead of trying to cast doubt I submit and suggest we of the media should be thanking Ms. Adelson and all those who work for her for doing our culture a great service that will pay dividends to society for years. I suggest going to this page and donating to her worthy cause.

Tragic news comes out of North Carolina that has ramifications for the Congressional Race in district 2.  Keith Crisco, the candidate trailing Clay Aiken in the recent primary by 300 some odd votes, has passed away. Crisco was a former Secretary of the N.C. Department of Commerce under Former Governor Bev Perdue.

ASHEBORO — Asheboro businessman and congressional candidate, Keith Crisco, 71, died suddenly at his home today.

Information is incomplete; however, early information indicates he suffered injuries from a fall around 1 p.m. at his home on 1263 Thayer Drive in Asheboro. He was reported dead at the scene when emergency workers arrived there.

John Ogburn, Asheboro city manager, confirmed that the Asheboro Police Department and Asheboro Fire Department responded to the scene. He said the case will go to the state medical examiner to determine an exact cause of death. – Courier Tribune

Crisco, 71 years old, apparently tripped on a rug and fell. So, it would appear the Aiken wins by tragic default. Crisco was likely within the margin for asking for a recall, however, from reports it doesn’t appear he was intending to do so. If the final count puts Crisco ahead, the district’s executive committee of the Democratic Party in North Carolina would then choose the nominee.

Reactions were a mixed bag on Twitter, from Aiken suspending his campaign activities to a bit of off-color humor.

Gay mafia eh? Perhaps these gentlemen were involved? All jokes, aside, prayers should go out to the Crisco family. End result: It now seems Aiken will face off against Rep. Renee Ellmers.  Rep. Ellmers secured her position by winning the primary versus Frank Roche. Roche did not go quietly and called out the GOP establishment and the lack of voter turn out. Excerpt from his parting remarks is below via Daily Haymaker, but hit the link and read the full statement.

Only 15.6% of us who live in North Carolina’s 2nd District bothered to vote on Tuesday, May 6, 2014.  Republican and Independents, 21,358 of them, voted to give Rep. Renee Ellmers another two years in office.  We missed sending a true conservative leader to the U.S. House by 6,370 votes.

Pathetic.

In the 36 hours after not winning a hard run election there are many emotions that come and go: disappointment, sadness, guilt, bewilderment, frustration, and anger.  I’m in the frustration and anger stage.  Remember SNL from 1988, “How am I losing to this guy?”  Note to self: U.S. Congress, proper qualifications not required.

What is the GOP establishment thinking?

The establishment, with some help from one of our newest lefty billionaires and the left leaning media, helped reelect the least qualified candidate in the 2nd District Republican primary.  They failed the 2nd District and America. They overstepped their pledged boundaries of neutrality during the primary and again demonstrated themselves to be part of the problem.  Local petty political gate-keepers assisted their poorly qualified incumbent in ways that require they be removed from their volunteer Chairmanship positions.

Ouch. In the meantime, NC Democrats are putting their stock in reality TV star who managed to be fired from Celebrity Apprentice, came in second place on American Idol, takes questionable selfies and couldn’t be bothered to show up to the education committee he was appointed to by the President.  Oh, and just a reminder on what Aiken thinks of the GOP, Mormons and Black conservatives:

H/T to Gay Patriot for that lovely and tolerant deleted tweet.
Who knows what will happen next in NC-02. Whatever does, I’ll be sure to report back on. Stay tuned.

Rommel you magnificent bastard I’ve read your book!

Patton 1970

Prince Humperdinck: There was… a mighty duel. It ranged all over. They were both masters.

The Princess Bride 1987

Karl Rove you’re a genius.

While a MSNBC host was declaring asking for Hillary’s health records “birtherism” Bill Clinton in the guise of defence of his wife seemed to give Mr. Rove a reason for a victory lap:

They went to all this trouble to say she had staged what was a terrible concussion that required six months of very serious work to get over,” he said. “It’s something she never low-balled with the American people, never tried to pretend it didn’t happen.

The President was, of course, making the point that contrary to the opinion of some at the time Mrs. Clinton was not feigning or overstating her illness to avoid testifying on Benghazi.

However at ABC News Mary Bruce & Dana Hughes provides both a timeline and statements from the state department that are contrary to the President’s statement:

“Judging by the woman we saw this morning and the workload that she’s got she seems to be fully recovered,” spokeswoman Victoria Nuland told reporters at a State Department briefing Jan. 7, 2013, about a month after Hillary Clinton’s fall and concussion occurred.

While any person  familiar with Bill “I never had sex with that woman” Clinton learners quickly to question any claim he might make but the effect of what he said is to set up Karl Rove for another news cycle.

Rove can now go before the cameras and say:  ” Clinton took six months to recover, that certainly sounds like a serious injury to me, we need to see those medical records.

OR he has the option to say:  ” While I appreciate Bill Clinton backing up my questions concerning Mrs. Clinton’s health I am concerned at how this doesn’t seem to match what her State Department was saying at the same time.  We’ll need those heath records to find out what the truth actually is.”

Either way the Clinton memes I mentioned yesterday stays in the news another day.

Advantage Rove but as they are both masters expect a Bill Clinton counter.
