Calling out Joan Lewis of EWTN over the Wall

Margaret Blaine: This is persecution. Why can’t you leave me alone? What did I ever do to you?
The 9th Doctor: You tried to kill me and destroy this entire planet.
Margaret Blaine: Apart from that.

Doctor Who, Boomtown 2005

It’s not often I critique EWTN but when I heard the radio replay of Vatican Insider concerning the Pope’s visit to the holy land I heard something that crossed the line, both of propriety & of reality that as a Catholic and a supporter of EWTN I felt compelled to reply to publicly

A Palestinian was on with Joan Lewis of EWTN and they commented on the stop at the security wall set up by Israel separating the Palestinian areas from the Jewish areas and the prayers by the Pope. The Palestinian also commented on the hardships of the people who lost houses in the building of the wall.  Those are legit topics and I had no problem with that.

I was more annoyed listening to the Palestinian talking of the “injustice” of the wall without a syllable was spoken as to WHY the wall was there as if the Jews of Israel built the wall because they suddenly decided such a wall might be aesthetically pleasing to the eye.  That was bad but not enough to raise my ire.  I’ve seem plenty of this stuff from the MSM and one more such segment wasn’t going to set me off.

But a line was crossed with Lewis instantly invoked Reagan’s famous “tear down this wall” speech creating an equality between the security barrier & the Berlin Wall.

That is beyond the place, it is an embarrassment to me as a loud promoter of  EWTN & as a Catholic.  As both I personally offer my sincere apologies to any Jew who might have heard this.

As Ms. Lewis saw fit to compare this security wall to the Berlin wall & thus equated a regime that one the largest sources of mass murder in the 20th century with a country set up by people who escaped from the greatest single act of targeted ethnic mass murder of the 20th century, let me ask her a question:

How many bombing attacks were made on East Berlin from West Berlin in the years prior to the wall’s existence?

How many East Berlin buses were blown up by west Berliners trying to kill them, how many East Germans died while going to nightclubs? How many East Germans children & teen were kidnapped by West Germans protesting the separation of their city?

The answer you’ll find is nearly 1 or in other words ZERO.

How DARE you compare a wall to keep terrorist out by Jews to a wall built by the Communists to keep people imprisoned in, how Dare you ignore that murder of innocent Israeli’s as if they never happened and worse of all how dare you do this on Catholic Radio bringing the faith and EWTN,  a network dedicated to truth into disrepute by doing so.

Do you not wonder why the Arab lands are Judenrein and Christians are fleeing such territories for their lives while Christians live safely in Israel and arabs vote and hold seats in the Israeli parliament.

Now I join with the prayers of the Pope that the wall eventually be gone and peace between Arabs & Jews come to pass and I applaud his historic efforts & actions to bring this about, but the reality is for that to happen, Arabs have to stop trying to kill Jews.  The launching of rockets into Israel has to stop and the kidnaping of Israeli teens has to stop.

Golda Meir put it best:

“We can forgive the Arabs for killing our children. We cannot forgive them for forcing us to kill their children. We will only have peace with the Arabs when they love their children more than they hate us.”

You owe the people of Israel and Jews everywhere an on air apology and perhaps you could couple that apology with a request from the Palestinian Christian you had on to do all he can to return the three kidnapped Israeli teen now being held by his friends on the other side of that wall.

Very bad form, Ms. Lewis very bad form indeed.
