Our policy, for the moment, is to conceal ourselves. Of course this has not always been so. We are really faced with a cruel dilemma. When the humans disbelieve in our existence we lose all he pleasing results of direct terrorism and we make no magicians. On the other hand, when they believe in us, we cannot make them materialists and sceptics. At least, not yet. I have great hopes that we shall learn in due time how to emotionalise and mythologise their science to such an extent that what is, in effect, belief in us, (though not under that name) will creep in while the human mind remains closed to belief in the Enemy.
C. S. Lewis The Screwtape Letters VII
It seems that our Satanic “friends” have learned a bit from their defeat in Boston as they take their roadshow to Oklahoma.
Just a few months after a black mass reenactment was planned – and then canceled – at Harvard University, another has been scheduled to take place at the Oklahoma City Civic Center on September 21, prompting calls for organizers to reconsider.
The Archbishop has quite properly condemned this:
“We’re astonished and grieved that the Civic Center would promote as entertainment and sell tickets for an event that is very transparently a blasphemous mockery of the Mass,” said Coakley, archbishop of the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City. “The ‘Black Mass’ that is scheduled for the Civic Center in September is a satanic inversion and distortion of the most sacred beliefs not only of Catholics, but of all Christians.”
This is apparently not the first time this rather interesting group of folks have held this event in OK and the public Catholic notes that their past efforts have met with, shall we say, less that great success.
He does this every year, and every year, the turnout is a wee bit less than stellar. Last year, nobody showed up at all.
This “high priest” says that “the goal of the event is to continue the satanic movement — to keep fighting for our rights for religious freedom.”
It looks to me like his “rights for religious freedom” are chugging along just fine. He’s managed to get the coin to rent a small auditorium at the Civic Center, which doesn’t come cheap, and he’s free to do his di-dos — albeit “toned down to meet the laws of Oklahoma and the rules of a government building” —to a fare-thee-well.
“You cannot attend such an event—even if one does so merely out of curiosity, and not with any firm desire to worship Satan—without being adversely affected,” the exorcist cautioned, in an exclusive interview with Aleteia. “The mere fact that this black mass in Oklahoma City will be public lends it a certain legitimacy, and I suspect that some people will go simply to be entertained. What they may not realize immediately is that simply by going, they will open themselves to the power of the demonic.”
And while the use of a public venue rather than a private one that would be more vulnerable to pressure to stop such an event, might seem to give them a constitutional advantage
Civic Center Music Hall spokeswoman Jennifer Lindsey-McClintock said the Civic Center Music Hall is a taxpayer funded entity and in that capacity it honors and upholds relevant state and federal laws including the U.S. Constitution, which allows for the free expression of speech and equal protection among all groups and individuals.
…supreme Court precedent would suggest otherwise:
Oklahoma City is setting itself up for a lawsuit. In 1984, in Lynch v. Donnelly, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Warren Burger explicitly said that the Constitution “affirmatively mandates accommodation, not merely tolerance, of all religions, and forbids hostility toward any.”
After all given of what the Black Mass consists of:
“The consecrated host is corrupted by sexual fluids, then it becomes the sacrifice of the mass,” reads the website. “The blasphemy remains intact along with corruption of Catholic Mass. Modern/Laveyan Satanists see this as ritual to mock the Catholic Mass in the form of a blasphemy rite used to deprogram people from their Christian background.”
it would seem even a “toned down” version would seem to violate that standard, particularly if a consecrated host is used. Of course the court has been very strong on 1st Amendment cases but the question of: Would it be permitted if it was a Koran? is the proper answer.
However more significant than what method is used to fight this is the fact that this is now becoming an open fight rather than a hidden one as Fr. Z:
With the rapid degradation of morals, the overturning of common sense and natural law, and the dissolution of civil rule of law in these USA we are seeing – and this is not a surprise – a rise of open invocation of the Enemy of the Soul. The spiritual war is becoming more open war. The dupes of the Enemy sense that their time is coming and they are emboldened.
The public catholic:
I do think that Satan is coming out from behind his many masks more and more as our society deteriorates. For generations, his ploy has been to convince people that he doesn’t exist while he operated through his unaware, but willing, human disciples. He’s still operating through his unaware but willing human disciples, and he’s using them for bold and bolder attacks on Christians and the Church. But now, he’s also beginning to show his own face. He’s still disguised by a bit of grease paint and a clown mask, but Satan is slowly coming out.
and our exorcist
the enemy does grow bolder,” he said. “The devil is gaining ground in the hearts of many, and he knows it.
all acknowledge. The question becomes, “What if anything should be done?”
I think the answer has already been amply demonstrated:
“The answer is to do what folks did in Boston,” the exorcist said. “Catholics must organize Eucharistic processions and holy hours, they must fast and pray fervently for the cancellation of this event. We must petition our Lord, His Mother, and all the angels and saints in this fierce battle against the powers of hell. To fail to fight this evil is to abandon souls to hell.”
That’s really the bottom line, even if the only real purpose of these idiots is attention and perhaps financing from anti-catholics, if the body of our Lord is going to be desecrated we are obliged to act. Furthermore if souls are at stake the obligation is even greater. After all if Christ was willing to be tortured to pay for those sins shall we as his followers not march and pray and offer supplications of pardon for these acts?
The fight against evil is a public fight and we must be willing to fight it publicly.
