Guest Post: Defending Vladimir Putin, the Russian people, and the Orthodox Christian faith

by 1389AD & CzechRebel

(Note DTG: On Sept 9th I sent out an e-mail blast promoting my post The Orcs of Russia & Memphis. I got a reply from 1389 counterjihad blog objecting to my “mindless Russia Bashing”. I wrote back with the following offer saying in part:

If you would like write an original rebuttal explaining why the general perception of Russia, Putin, Ukraine et/al is wrong, why the former soviet block countries fears are unfounded and why we should be working with Putin/Russia rather than against. Feel free to go through the posts that I’ve presented and critique them & toss in critiques of other blogs. Make it as long or as short as you need to make the case.

On Wednesday Sept 24th I received this piece in reply. You can find the piece crossposted at 1389 blog.

To say most of the opinions presented below (particularly concerning the Church & Fatima) are not mine is an extreme understatement. My rebuttal to this post will go up at 7 PM tonight as I thought it contrary to the spirit of my initial offer to rebut it here.  So according to my promised offer I present the emailed piece unedited below.

This is in response to the article, The Orcs of Russia and Memphis, which aroused the disagreement of both of the admins of 1389 Blog, namely 1389AD and CzechRebel.

Yes, we are familiar with orcs, those benighted, debased, and subhuman slave-warriors of the evil empires of Sauron in The Lord of the Rings and of Morgoth in The Silmarillion. We acknowledge that orcish behavior in human beings is sinful and we cannot condone it in any way.

Yes, we wholeheartily recommend the writings of J.R.R. Tolkien and no, we are not at all troubled by the fact that Tolkien, and his mother, were ardent Roman Catholics.

No, Vladimir Putin is not Sauron, Russians and their allies and sympathizers are not orcs, and modern-day Russia is not the evil empire of the USSR that once enslaved much of Eurasia. Quite the contrary.

It looks to us at 1389 Blog that your biggest problem is that you are a Roman Catholic who has imbibed too much of the Vatican “Kool-Aid.” Don’t get me wrong, we are NOT anti-Roman Catholic. Some of our writers and correspondents are practicing Roman Catholics. But they have NOT drunk the Vatican “Kool-Aid.”

Very, very, very few Roman Catholics understand the Holy Orthodox Church. I, CzechRebel, am a member of the Eastern Orthodox Church, so is 1389, so is our dear brother in Christ, Vladimir Putin. The Orthodox Church is an institution of peace and Vladimir Putin is a man of peace. If President Putin wanted to rule Ukraine, he would have taken it long ago and probably half of Poland just for good measure. Fortunately, President Putin is a committed Christian, perhaps the only such leader today of the countries in the “Nuclear Club.”

There is a good reason why Roman Catholics don’t understand the Eastern Orthodox Church. It has to do with disinformation disseminated from the top of the Roman hierarchy. Perhaps, their top Bishops, Archbishops, and Cardinals don’t know the truth. Or perhaps they know the truth and refuse to tell their laity. However, the results are the same. Roman Catholics don’t know what the Eastern Orthodox Church is. True, a few actually do. We would estimate that one in every 1,000 Roman Catholics whom we have spoken to in our lifetimes even know what the Eastern Orthodox Church is.

To most Roman Catholics, the Eastern Orthodox Church “broke off” from Rome in 1054 AD. Some factions who are deeply mired in self-deception even contend that the so-called “Great Schism” was not complete until two “reunification” councils failed to bring unity.

But when people ask us if we are something close to the Roman Catholic Church, we like to say that we are “as far as the East is from the West.” The Orthodox Church is the original form of Christianity unchanged for two millenia. (Sometimes practices such as music, architecture, and vernacular languages vary, but the actual faith remains unchanged.). All our councils merely reaffirm what was taught by the Apostles and what is STILL taught today. (See Jude 3.)

Yet, your average Roman Catholic, along with many clueless Protestants, believe that Rome is on the verge of “reuniting” Constantinople. Since they have the ridiculous belief that the Patriarchate of Constantinople is somehow the Eastern Christian equivalent of Rome, this will bring the Holy Sees of Jerusalem, Athens, Moscow, Belgrade, Antioch and all the others under the Pope’s dictatorial umbrella. These Western Christians point to photo ops and kind words shared by the Pope and Orthodox Christian leaders.

What would happen if the Patriarch of Constantinople did attempt to “reunite” with Rome? He would certainly be removed from office. He would probably be excommunicated and declared a heretic. It would certainly be a career-ending move for such a Bishop. Constantinople is one of the smaller Sees. Its local congregation is very limited. If not for the Greek Archdiocese in the US, it would be little more that a historical relic. Were a Patriarch of Constantinople foolish enough to try “reuniting” and were the few Bishops with him foolish enough to “look the other way,” you can bet that Constantinople would lose all influence along with losing its connection with the Orthodox community. It would merely become a minor Roman Catholic outpost in Turkey, and then dwindle into nonexistence.

The biggest part of the problem is the “theological development” in the Roman church. Starting in about 800 AD, there has been a parade of councils that we could NEVER accept in Eastern Orthodoxy. So, unless and until a Pope is willing to admit that the Roman church has been wrong for a good 1200 years, this so-called “reunification” is flat-out impossible. Of course, there is no one in the Eastern Orthodox Church with the power to change anything and there never has been.

Roughly seven out of every eight Orthodox Christians in the world are in the Russian Orthodox Church, whether in Russia or in the vast diaspora. This has traditionally been a problem for Rome. Rome has always wanted Russia and all of Eastern Christianity brought to its knees and placed under the thumb of a Pope. Today is no different. NATO is nothing more than the latest threat to the security of Christian Russia. During the Cold War, NATO was opposed by the Communist forces of the Warsaw Pact.

Since the end of the former Soviet Union, there has been a tremendous revolution in Russia. The Russian Orthodox Church has come roaring back to relevancy. With the Communist gone, the Godly people of Russia have emerged from the underground and re-established themselves. Many Russians formerly held positions in the Communist Party, while secretly practicing Christianity at home. Many of these behind-the-curtain Christians have come to power in the new free Russia. Many other Russians who had been unchurched during the Soviet era have rediscovered their Orthodox roots.

Russia, being a Godly nation, disbanded the Warsaw Pact in 1991, ending the Cold War and leaving NATO with no legitimate reason to continue. The only decent thing for the US to have done was to leave NATO as the Communist forces ceased to exist. But then, we live in a fallen world, and when decency competes with money, we know what usually wins. The loss of a credible enemy threatened many influential North American and European military and political apparatchiki with unemployment. Too many influential “advisers” in Washington, the mainstream media, and the NGOs – notably the infamous, ubiquitous, and bloodthirsty Brzezinski dynasty have made their careers on intensifying and perpetuating the Cold War. Bolstered by the propaganda machine of the western mainstream media, far more effective than anything in the wildest dreams of Josef Goebbels or Julius Streicher, NATO took advantage of Russia’s temporary economic and military setbacks to continue its imperial march toward Russia.

Following its the loss of its former bulwark in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, its absurd venture of Vatican II, its compromises with leftist politics, and its financial and sexual scandals, Rome has seen its churches liberalize and shrink in size. Its only hope is to co-opt or strangle its only real competition by supporting NATO’s invasion of Russia. So, once again we are hearing of this Fatima nonsense. For those have not heard of this incident, let us just say that three children in Portugal claimed they saw the Mother of God appear to them, and claimed that she said some heretical things, including, but not limited to, some nasty anti-Russia propaganda. We are not sure whether they were lying, or hallucinating or some demon had actually appeared to them claiming to the Theotokos, the mother of our Lord Jesus Christ. However, the Orthodox Church is 100 percent sure that this apparition is to be given no credence as its message deviated from that of the faith once delivered (Jude 3) and therefore is certain to be false teachings.

The American mainstream media is under the thumb of the left-wing/pro-Muslim influence. Fox is sightly more honest, but “when the rubber meets the road” it still promotes government lies. Just for starters, this is demonstrated whenever Bill O’Reilly opens his mouth about Obama’s birth certificate.

Russia is a total embarrassment to the left. The USSR was once a vast empire that attempted and failed to use their socialist principles to govern. When it broke apart, Russia repudiated socialism, and for that reason, the left-wing extremist mainstream media works overtime to find fault with Russia. They are hoping that somehow the few, aging, Communists left in Russia will somehow revive socialism. So the MSM tilts public opinion against the one thing it hates, a large, free, Christian county, namely Russia.

Of course, Fox is dominated by two Roman Catholic talking heads, Bill O’Reilly, and the somewhat smarter Sean Hanity. Both are hardcore Papists who want the Pope to take over the entire Christian world and rule as an iron-handed spiritual dictator as he once did in Western Europe. The are not true conservatives. They merely play the role of “conservative” when expediency dictates. If they were true conservatives, they would be supporting the miraculous revolution that brought down Communism and placed a truly conservative government in power in Russia. Instead, they both whip up enmity against Russia in a most un-Christian manner.

Russia is our friend. It is the one major country standing up to threat of Islamic jihad, and to the radical militant homosexual agenda, and to the persecution of Christians everywhere. The US, on the other had, is wishy-washy when it comes to counterjihad and even has a Muslim President. The US is welcoming so-called “gay marriage”, abortion and every form of sexual perversion imaginable. The US pretends to fight Christian persecution with a few presidential “hashtags.”

So, we allow people to lie about Putin, “He was the head of the KGB.” Wrong! He worked for the KGB. It was George Bush I who was the head of the CIA! Putin did work for the KGB. Why would the Russian people want someone who wasn’t astute enough to hold a good job during the Communist era? He was in charge of Russia’s security once the new PRO-CHRISTIAN government took over. Sounds to me like a good thing!

What about Ukraine? Let’s do a thought experiment here. Suppose the US government were to go completely bankrupt in every sense of the word and, for that reason, were to fall to pieces in the same manner as did the former USSR. (By no means a farfetched scenario for a government that is already $17.5 trillion USD in debt, and counting.) But then, suppose a major part of the former USA – let’s say, most of the Sunbelt – were to pull themselves together and restore a free-market, Constitutional, and pro-Judaeo-Christian federation once again, calling themselves the Free USA. What if some portions of the formerly broken-away states wished to reunite with the Free USA – for example, parts of Virginia and Massachusetts. Now suppose that the Chinese, or some other foreign rival, were to co-opt the political process and conduct sham elections in those states to install a thugocracy to persecute those who wish to reunite with the Free USA. Suppose that the victims of this persecution were to take up arms to defend themselves and were to plead with the Free USA to take them back. What if China were to threaten nuclear war against the Free USA if it did agree to take them back?

Far-fetched, you say? Virginia and Massachusetts were the two original US states. If anyone ever did take them away, those states would have the absolute right to take them back. Can you not possibly see what this has to do with the Ukraine?

Most of we now call “Ukraine” – excluding the westernmost portion – was the original Russian heartland! It was Nikita Khrushchev who cut up the map so Crimea and other parts of what had always been Russia were part of the Ukraine. So, anyone who does not support the reunification of Ukraine and Russia are treading in the footsteps of the last Communist leader who was a true believer, namely Nikita Khrushchev.

The US simply has no business in Ukraine. It has no business in Eastern Europe and certainly no business in NATO. NATO membership marks the US as warmonger nation and does nothing to defend the interests of US citizens against our real enemy, namely the worldwide jihad.
