One might consider the title of this post a tad provocative, after all the events in Ferguson Missouri involve a shooting death followed by rioting, while in Westminster MA all that being debated is banning cigarette sales in the city.

However there is one aspect of these two events that is identical, the objection to how a representative government is acting, and that objection requires the same solution for those upset.

In Ferguson the community that has been the loudest in opposing the local police & mayor etc have been rather apathetic at the ballot box and have been so for years.  These aren’t the days of Jim Crow, if they don’t like their local representation in the city they could be voting them out or at least making sure there is a political cost for making what they consider bad decisions.

They have not.

While the circumstances aren’t as dire in Westminster and the odds of riots and blood taking place in the city are lower than the chances of Bill Clinton taking and keeping a vow of chastity it’s very much the same situation.

Where were all of these people who were so angry now when the members of local government who are pushing this ban were being elected and appointed?  Were they attending town meetings?  Were they pushing other candidates?  Were they filing petitions?  Were they running candidates or standing as candidates themselves?

They were not.

So while I have sympathy for the store owner at the center of this fuss, if you are  a person in Westminster who possess this move by the town remember it was made possible by your apathy.

There is however one huge difference between Ferguson & Westminster.

No matter what your position is on the Officer’s actions or young Mr. Brown’s nothing that comes out of Ferguson will bring Michael Brown back from the dead.

While in Westminster if the people don’t like the decision to force smokers to go to a neighboring town or city to buy their tobacco products (made possible by those amazing new inventions called the Automobile and the Bicycle they can vote out the people in charge in the town and vote in new people to replace them, presumably the store owners in Westminster will still be there by that time.

If you live in a free society and you don’t take advantage of those freedom and allow people who wish to restrict your freedom, it’s on you.

The GOP kept control of the U.S. House and took control of the U.S. Senate in a coast to coast wave on election day.  News came yesterday that the GOP adds one more with Alaska to the U.S. Senate, bringing the total to eight seats won. Even though the GOP now controls both houses of Congress, as Glenn Reynolds would say, ‘don’t get cocky, kid.’

The most expensive Senate race in the country took place in my home state of North Carolina, where Republican Thom Tillis unseated Democrat Kay Hagan.  Even with local media heavily in the tank for Hagan, Tillis still pulled it out. Those same media outlets are scratching their heads now.

On the state level, the wave continued. State legislatures are also now controlled by Republicans.  That translates to 68 out of 98 legislative chambers according to Real Clear Politics, who also notes that 23 Gubernatorial offices are now held by Republicans in states where both houses are also under Republican control.

Politico noted that Republicans gained more than 300 seats in legislatures and controls legislatures in 29 states; the biggest gains since the 1920’s.

These state house and gubernatorial races are important. Voters seemingly said ‘enough’ and acted locally in a big way.  The gubernatorial results brings me to an issue that has rapidly become a fire storm and was indeed a losing ballot box issue this cycle: Common Core.

The GOP effectively owns Common Core. Now it’s time for them to disown it.  The National Governor’s Association needs to wake up and recognize the revolt already in progress.

The money being thrown into messaging by the pro-Common Core groups is out there for all to see. This messaging includes  “Comprehensive and targeted communications” by Bill Gates funded outfits for Republicans for after the 2014 election cycle.  Mercedes Schneider lays out this targeting:

Indeed, aside from his providing CFSS website photos, guess who is footing the New Venture Fund bill for this CCSS push?

You know it: Bill Gates– to the tune of $10.3 million for “comprehensive and targeted communications”:

New Venture Fund

Date: May 2014
Purpose: to support the successful implementation of the Common Core State Standards and related assessments through comprehensive and targeted communications and advocacy in key states and the District of Columbia [Emphasis added.]
Amount: $10,300,300

“Comprehensive and targeted communications” apparently includes Republican politicians following the November 4, 2014, elections. On November 11, 2014, CFSS issued this memo to “interested parties.” Here is an excerpt:

Even amidst a Republican wave, candidates elected to statewide governing positions largely resisted pressure to call for repeal of the Standards:

 86% of Governors in pro-Common Core states have not expressed interest in repealing the Standards (38 of 44 Governors)
 90% of state Superintendents in Common Core states have not taken steps to repeal the Standards (40 of 44 Superintendents)
 Among the 44 states with Common Core on the books, only six Governors and three State Superintendents have sought to repeal it

Target the Republicans. Be sure that they feel secure in supporting CCSS.

Never mind that the CCSS assessments have yet to hit most of the nation.

That’s a lot of money.

Let’s not forget how much money was pumped into losing campaigns in 2014, shall we?

Dear GOP, Jeb Bush is not viable. Common Core is a big reason why.
Do not underestimate the Common Core Opposition.  This is our kids you’re messing with and believe me, we haven’t even started really making noise yet.  Testing and Common Core go hand in hand and the rebellion has just begun.
If the GOP wants to keep what it has won in state house and governor mansions, they need to listen to the people on Common Core.  If they listen to the unelected and unaccountable organizations behind Common Core, the GOP loses.  It’s just that simple.

For I, the LORD, your God, am a jealous God, inflicting punishment for their fathers’ wickedness on the children of those who hate me, down to the third and fourth generation;  but bestowing mercy down to the thousandth generation, on the children of those who love me and keep my commandments.

Exodus 20:5b-6

On Monday I was reading a bit from the Diary of St. Faustina Kowalska.  The revelation to her has led to, not only the institution of Divine Mercy Sunday the week after Easter,  but the practice of adoration of the Blessed Sacrament at Divine Mercy Chapels worldwide.  This is not only a spectacular triumph over the forces of evil but a great example of what can be done when one is willing to be dedicated to the words of Christ.

However considering the words of said diaries and the revelations therein that I’ve read thus far there is one thing  I’ve perceived that is absolutely painful to read.

Frustration!

The frustration is not so much that people are unaware of the Mercy of God, although St Sr. Faustina was specifically tasked to promote and propagate said mercy, it’s that so few people take advantage of it.

Here you have Christ, God himself,  while remaining fully God becoming man and suffering torture and death for the sins and people don’t bother to take advantage of that sacrifice to be forgiven.

And when Christ says he will forgive sins he means it.  It doesn’t matter what your sin is,  Mass Murder,  Genocide, Rape, Theft on a global scale that sin can be forgiven.  No sin is so large that the blood of Christ and the divine Mercy of God can not forgive it.

Yet people don’t bother.

And it’s not like it’s a difficult procedure either.  If you are a non-christian who has never been baptised it’s incredibly easy.   The act of baptism cleans  ANY & ALL sins from the soul, period!

Even if you are an ISIS terrorist who has been killing and raping his way across the Middle East.  Even if you are an Imam who has been calling for the murder and rape of infidels.  Even if you have spending your entire life doing all you can to disparage God and to persecute the church, the simple act of Baptism changes everything.  Every single sin you have committed to that point, from a simple white lie, to mass murder is washed away.  Forgiven, forgotten  forever.

If you have previously been baptised it’s not very hard either.  There are over 417,000 Priests and Bishops in the world.  Each and every one of them can administer the sacrament of Confession.

Thanks to the nature of the Sacrament of Confession said forgiveness is not even contingent on the perfect contrition for sins due to the love of God, even imperfect contrition due to the fear of hell is good enough to get you absolution.

Nor does committing the sin at a later time preclude you from absolution.  Temptation will always exist but as long as at the time of confession you sincerely regret your sin and intend to not commit it again you will be forgiven!

Two minutes of your life for complete forgiveness,  people spend more time that waiting in line for a coffee…and they don’t do it.

Every moment of life,  the hand of forgiveness is offered and every day people refuse it, ignore it or put it off.

I could be wrong but I think this is the greatest pain that Christ suffers.

“I’m making fun of liberals who say ‘Republicans don’t believe in science’ if they don’t believe Florida will be underwater by June 5th.”

That’s a #Bazinga & I would have tweeted it as such but Twitter is only 140 characters.

Remember for all the times he can drive us nuts Joe is one of the few people who make the conservative case to an MSNBC viewer.

The new deal with China on coal & emissions while a disaster for the country’s economy is an early gift to the entire 2016 GOP field.

It’s axiomatic that every GOP pundit should be denouncing this deal at once but that’s a one day story. May I humbly suggest something that if started today will have a positive effect on election 2016 for the party:

Starting today every single potential GOP 2016 candidate should be calling this deal the Obama China deal

Starting today every single potential GOP 2016 candidate should be calling this the EPA regulations that come from this The Obama EPA Regulations

Starting today every single potential GOP 2016 candidate should be tying this deal to the democrats.

Starting today every single member of the GOP Senate that is running for re-election in 2016 from John Boozman in Arkansas to Marco Rubio in Florida to Mark Kirk in Illinois and Kelly Ayotte in NH and Especially Pat Toomey in Pennsylvania & should be vowing to do all they can if re-elected to reverse this horrible deal for America.

Starting today every single GOP chair in every single state where a Democrat senator is running for re-election should be tying said candidate to this new Obama China Deal and the new Obama EPA Regulations

And Starting today every single Democrat running for election or re-election From Hillary Clinton to Michael Bennet in Colorado should from this day forward be made to say if they support the #obamachinadeal & the #obamaeparegulations or not

You’re quite welcome GOP.
