I didn’t bother to watch the State of the Union speech last night, partially because I know the actual state of the Union (slowing improving as Obama’s remaining days in the White House decrease) but mostly because of one fact that is getting very little press.
It doesn’t matter what president Obama proposes, Free College, Free Drugs, Free money etc for any of it to actually even start to become law someone has to introduce the bill in congress and have it placed on the calendar for a vote.
And guess what? He doesn’t have a majority to do so, not in the house, not in the senate, he’s got diddly.
And the best part, he can’t play the “do nothing” congress game because they are going to have plenty of their own bills, debated and voted on placed before him and if and when he casts his vetoes to play to his base (the only people who will have an interest in him after he’s done) he’ll make it that much harder for Democrats in 2016.
So play the media’s game and spend the day talking about the Obama speech if you want, I’m not because it hs all the significance that he does.
