Ted Cruz vs Lanny Davis Compare & Contrast

Sir Humphrey Appleby: You came up with all the questions I hoped nobody would ask

The Rt Hon Jim Hacker MP: Well Opposition is about asking awkward question.

Sir Humphrey Appleby: And government is about not answering them.

The Rt Hon Jim Hacker MP:Well you answered all mine anyway.

Sir Humphrey Appleby:  I’m glad you thought so minister

If you want to know why so many conservatives absolutely love Ted Cruz and so many liberals hate him, this is it:

“How about we deal with the elephant in the room right away?” That’s how Bruce Rastetter, the agribusiness mogul who organized the summit and has a large financial stake in the continuation of the RFS, opened his 20-minute interview with the Texas senator.

Sitting on a brown leather chair, Cruz took a sip of his water and crossed his legs to show off a pair of black cowboy boots.

“The answer you’d like me to give is ‘I’m for the RFS, darn it,’” Cruz responded. “That’d be the easy thing to do. But people are pretty fed up with politicians that run around and tell one group one thing and tell another group another thing. Then they go to Washington and don’t do anything they said they would do.”

“I’m going to tell you the truth,” he added.

Jazz Shaw has more:

Hot air reached out to the Cruz campaign about how he managed such an answer.

“Ted Cruz is straightforward about what he believes, whether he is in Iowa, Texas, or Washington DC. We need more leaders who tell the truth about what they will do and the response to that kind of honesty is very positive.”

I have to say, this was a potential game changer for me. I know that I probably put off some of you with my seemingly endless fascination with energy issues in general and ethanol subsidies in particular. It’s a sort of wonky subject, but I feel it’s an important one. And this forum in Iowa was, in my view, a test of character for the nascent candidates on a matter of vital interest.

Now ethanol subsidies are not a key issue for me.  Ethanol while not the best of alternative fuels for an engine does provide a partial alternative to foreign oil so it’s a strategic plus but as a free market guy I don’t like subsiding this kind of thing.  If Ethanol is a good product it doesn’t need federal welfare.  But the real take away here is that given the choice of pandering or telling the truth Ted Cruz will tell the truth.

That’s, as Jazz noted is a measure of character

Now contrast this with Lanny Davis defending Hillary Clinton on the email scandal E-mails on Fox news today:

Watch the video in full, it’s an exercise in mendacity and obfuscation worthy of Sir Humphrey Appleby.

The question is what type of government do you want?
