This is the Media That Will Cover Election 2016

In the university this is absolutely true there are lots of example of guys who have done contradictory research and suddenly find they can’t get a grant anymore because they are not saying the political correct thing.

Dr. Larry Schweikart March 28th 2015

A while back I interviewed Dr. Larry Schweikart who gave a speech at a YAF event talking about history being spun:

The meat and potatoes of the argument was that ignoring facts had become a part of our culture.

I couldn’t help think of this when I saw this piece by John Bohannon on how he got a phony study published:

It was time to share our scientific breakthrough with the world. We needed to get our study published pronto, but since it was such bad science, we needed to skip peer review altogether. Conveniently, there are lists of fake journal publishers. (This is my list, and here’s another.) Since time was tight, I simultaneously submitted our paper—“Chocolate with high cocoa content as a weight-loss accelerator”—to 20 journals. Then we crossed our fingers and waited.

Our paper was accepted for publication by multiple journals within 24 hours. Needless to say, we faced no peer review at all.

That was how he got it into “scientific” journals, and for getting journalists to bite,

The key is to exploit journalists’ incredible laziness. If you lay out the information just right, you can shape the story that emerges in the media almost like you were writing those stories yourself. In fact, that’s literally what you’re doing, since many reporters just copied and pasted our text.

Take a look at the press release I cooked up. It has everything. In reporter lingo: a sexy lede, a clear nut graf, some punchy quotes, and a kicker. And there’s no need to even read the scientific paper because the key details are already boiled down.

There are two important points to make here, the first is that the study was not so much inaccurate as it used methodology to make sure they got the results you want.  Think of how many computer models that are cited by the media on Global warming that are built exactly the same way.

The real important point however is this:

If “professional journalists”, trade journals and mainstream papers fell so quickly for this “science” without questioning it at all, how much quicker will they do so if it concerning a topic that matches their belief system, and how much less once they have promoted a study that backs their beliefs will they look favorability on one that goes in the other direction?

Remember this the next time the media tries to belittle views it disagrees with.

My goal for 2015 is Twenty Two grand

Olimometer 2.52

That gets all the bills paid. (including my writers like Fausta)  If I can get to Forty Thousand I can afford to travel outside of New England and/or hire me a blogger to help me get it done.
