Ted Cruz in Hollis NH 8-30-2015

cruz 2 007Yesterday I took a trip to Mike and Mar Mar Rogers house to cover a Ted Cruz House party.

Mike (of Granite Grok) and his wife have hosted many events over the years. Earlier this year I covered Ben Carson’s event but this one was the largest I’d seen, there were several tables of food, multiple tents including one for Granite Grok (which I was allowed to share) and a table at the front to allowed in registered guests.

This was the first time I’d ever seen either police or a security table but the draw here was large and included over 200 people (my count was 215 when the Senator started speaking which explained the 30 pizzas).

I arrived a couple of hours early and recorded parts of my podcast (emailed weekly to subscribers btw) including interviews with skip from Granite Grok, Mary Lotz, Frank Ardinger and others, but held back some space hoping for an interview with the Senator and to includes some audio from the event.

About 10 minutes before the event started Mar Mar invited those who helped with the event to Meet the Senator socially. While I had covered the senator on multiple occasions it was our first meeting socially and I was gratified that he remembered me from various events (The hat and scarf comes in real handy here) after which he came to the back yard to the crowd of 225.

Senator Cruz was preceded by a few speakers including local selectmen and was finally introduced by former NH Speaker Bill O’Neill after which he took the mic

Cruz spoke for about 25 minutes and gave pretty much his standard stump speech, he listed the things he would do on day one as president (revoke regulation, drop Iran deal, investigate planned parenthood and more) and on his long term goals. It was a message of optimism that we would be able to make a difference.

One the speech was done the Q & A came he took questions on the Trade Deficit

On the Iran Deal

On Power plant Closings

and on the Black Community

Unfortunately I violated a primary rule of mine and dug into the excellent spread so it was at this point that nature decided to call, however I had my USB microphone set up and the entire event was recorded in audio (available here)

At this point he sat down for an interview with Granite Grok when it was completed I asked for an interview but deferred when the Senator asked to greet the attendees first.

The sun was setting fast so I moved inside and set myself up in an area with some good light to be ready for him, but his handlers said at this point that they were running late and had no time, fortunately the Senator overruled them and sat down with me for six minutes (which for me is a long one).

You’ll notice the mic next to him, I used the recording from the Mic and a subsequent interview with Mike Rogers on the event for the Podcast.

Cruz continues his march forward slowly gathering support, he is using his money and grass roots support wisely and I suspect when we get to the end of the primary season he will still be standing because of it

I know you can get the MSM for nothing, but that’s pretty much what they’re good for.

cruz 2 007Yesterday I took a trip to Mike and Mar Mar Rogers house to cover a Ted Cruz House party.
