All day the only words you have heard on CNN have been along a single meme:

Who will go after Trump?

How will candidate X attack Trump?

Who will have the Courage to hit Trump?

There is one word for candidates who fall for this meme:

Granted CNN would love a dogfight for ratings but more importantly the media realizes one important thing.

Based on the Debate number from last time millions of people who normally don’t follow presidential debates will be watching.  A much greater number than normally follow the MSM’s news coverage.

That means that you dear candidate have a chance to do something you normally can’t.  Reach millions of people,  introduce yourself and define yourself to that new audience before the MSM gets to do so.  You can tout your record, bring up issues and note stories that make your case, stories that hurt the Democrats, stories the MSM spend their time ignoring.

They hate that

Instead they want you defined as Trump’s opponent and nothing else.  They want you to be silent about your record, your plans, your issues.  The only thing the media wants the public to take from this debate about you is “You hit trump”.

That not only gives the media a chance to define you later if you win the nomination but if by some chance you manage to land a fatal blow on Trump, there is the chance that you can provoke Trump to use his fortune to bring you & the GOP down, to give Democrats the general election.

That’s the final goal, help the Democrats win a general election, that’s what they’re all about.

You have been warned.

Your man has been accustomed, ever since he was a boy, to have a dozen incompatible philosophies dancing about together inside his head.

C.S. Lewis The Screwtape Letters I

The latest planned parenthood video has come out and congress has now decided they want a closer look:

Today, the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee issued a subpoena to the Center for Medical Progress (CMP) for all unedited video footage in their possession relating to the acquisition, preparation, and sale of fetal tissue. CMP is prevented from releasing footage due to a lawsuit filed by the National Abortion Federation to keep the videos out of the public domain.

This move has caused some panic among their fans but this one is my favorite

That image alone is enough to break irony meters.  A person who self identifies as “voice for the helpless” is upset about attacks on Planned Parenthood. Apparently the definition of “helpless” is so narrow that an unborn child doesn’t qualify. So let’s just look at the account page and exactly what is being talked about here..

I suspect that if planned parenthood did to whales and dolphins what they did to children this person would be absolutely horrified and outraged but because they are killing and dissecting humans they are worthy of not only existence but proactive defense.

However as this person is bothered enough by this situation to express her ire publicly, never let it be said that I didn’t offer a constructive solution to this person’s desire to end the attacks on Planned Parenthood.

If they did this the attacks on Planned parenthood would end almost instantly.

Happy to help

I know you can get the MSM for nothing, but that’s pretty much what they’re good for.

Like Pete, I’m old Enough to Remember when Pundits were Expected to Support the GOP Candidates. I also agree with Pete in

Now granted Pataki is polling only slightly better than I am but when it comes down to it If I’m Donald Trump I’m dancing in the streets over it and if I’m the tea party I’m grinning like a cat.

I’ll take it one further: Any GOP presidential candidate who spends time talking about Trump rather than highlighting his/her position on the issues is wasting precious time and is a fool.

Carly Fiorina manages to turn the tables on Trump while turning the spotlight on herself. Even the WaPo, not exactly an arm of the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy (a term popularized by Hillary Clinton back during her bimbo eruption-fighting-days), declares that her ad “is the best one of the 2016 campaign so far.” In case you haven’t seen the Fiorina ad I’m talking about, here it is.

Trump had asked, “Look at that face. Would anyone vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next president!?” The Fiorina campaign’s answer was a most resounding “YES.”

1. The ad starts with Fiorina’s triumphant voice saying, “Ladies, look at this face,” immediately addressing its target audience.

2. The faces of the women in the ad are the faces of women you know – daughters, friends, coworkers, moms – as Fiorina defines “the face of leadership in our party, the party of women’s suffrage,” establishing the Republican party’s historical pro-women stance.

3. The ad gets a dig at the Dems and Hillary, “We are not a special interest group, we are the majority of the nation.”

4. While she speaks without notes or teleprompter to the National Federation of Republican Women in Arizona, Fiorina, who looks fit, trim and up for the challenge, ends with, “This is the face of a sixty-one year old woman, I am proud of it, every year and every wrinkle.” As the WaPo said,

a message that not only could none of her male opponents deliver but also one with reach well beyond just the Republican base.

The ad success in positioning Fiorina as a strong adversary who, while addressing an insult, wastes no time and scores a point or two against the Dems.

And Trump’s name did not cross her lips once.

May that be a lesson to the other Republican candidates.

Recall at Debate number #1 the very first question was all about supporting the GOP nominee no matter who it is, Trump refused to make that pledge and the GOP and their candidates made a big fuss about Trump’s refusal. It took many weeks & a lot of negotiation before Trump finally signed the pledge.

Since then Trump’s has continued to rise to the point where people who presumed that the Donald was a flash in the pan now are taking the possibility of his election seriously and lo and behold suddenly we see GOP pundits singing a different tune.

The Weekly Standard Editor told CNN on Monday that he would be unable to back the real estate mogul.

“I doubt I’d support Donald. I doubt I’d support the Democrat,” Kristol said. “I think I’d support getting someone good on the ballot as a third-party candidate.”

and he’s not alone:

Now granted Pataki is polling only slightly better than I am but when it comes down to it If I’m Donald Trump I’m dancing in the streets over it and if I’m the tea party I’m grinning like a cat..

For the tea party it illustrates the double standard that exists for the establishment GOP. The Base is expected to go along with the nominee come what may but the reverse isn’t true (see Dede Scozzafava)

It’s also gold for Trump because it not only diminishes the rest of the GOP field and the party that made such a big fuss, but if the party actively tries to stop him it gives him the excuse to dump his promise.

Of course none of this really matters because John Nolte notes he’s already switched to a general election campaign

Basically, he’s telling Republican voters the unvarnished truth about where he disagrees with us on a number of bedrock conservative issues, and he’s gambling that enough will stick him because they trust him more than the 15 others on existential issues such as immigration, border enforcement, lowering middle class taxes, simplifying the tax code, killing terrorists, and giving as good as he gets from the corrupt media.

He is also counting on the fact that The Base hates #GOPSmartSet enough that we are willing to go with a more moderate candidate if it means bringing down the corrupt, feckless, insulting, useless GOP Establishment.

Now I think this election is far from over, in fact it hasn’t even started yet but sometimes as I look at the GOP & its supporters and see how they deal with their base, with Trump and more importantly with Trump’s voters, I wonder if the label “The Stupid Party” should be the official name after all?
