I’m taking a break on my Prophet Thomas series to point out something that popped into my mind recently with all of the unpleasantness surrounding mass shootings, terror attacks and Muslims.

I had been trying to read Larry Correia’s Guns and Vultures for almost a week, but, so many people were linking to it that today was the first day that it hasn’t given me the 503 no-go, yo. (The link was handily provided by Glenn, who may yet overload the server again.)

Every member of the gun culture watches these things unfold and thinks, hell, here we go again. Want to know something sad? I promise at most of the gun stores around America the news was on, and everybody in there was listening, thinking some variation of please don’t be somebody the news can somehow make out to be like me… Even though the vast majority of the time the shooter isn’t one of us, has nothing to do with us, and in fact, people like us are the last line of defense against them, it doesn’t matter. We know we’re going to get blamed.

Then they’ll attack us, hound us, insult us, legislate against us, and if they can, disarm us in more ways and places… So we can be even more incapable of defending ourselves the next time somebody who isn’t us does something evil. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.

Then they revealed who the shooters were.

Immediately the same exact people who’d just been screeching about evil Tea Party, racist, hate monger, right wing, ciswhitehetero male phantoms, began urging calm, saying don’t jump to conclusions. It isn’t fair to tar the big group because of the actions of a few. Watch out for that hateful rhetoric, because you might inflame people.

Correia hits dead upon the topic that had entered my consciousness: the Left’s main foundation is extremism. To Leftists, moderation is never considered a virtue–unless it’s moderation in calling out evil. Then they yap, yap, yap and you, non-Leftist, are to shutyourhole. Or else.

I am tired of it.

Being a big religious freedom person when I first heard Donald Trump’s suggestion that we stop Islamic immigration for a time my gut reaction was to disagree.  I found the idea distasteful.

But after that first gut reaction I did something that few people have bothered to do, I thought about it and have concluded that the reaction against it is not only nonsense & hyperbole , but the suggestion itself is logical and practical.

The easiest way to explain this:  Chipotle

For weeks we’re heard about  Chipotle food safety issues:

The company has already shut down all restaurants in Seattle and Portland after a reported outbreak of E. coli. While only six Chipotle locations have been linked to the outbreak, the company told the Associated Press that all restaurants have been closed “out of an abundance of caution.”

Just a few days ago the company insisted:  They would be the leader in food safety:

“While Chipotle’s food safety practices were already well within industry norms, I was asked to design a more robust food safety program to ensure the highest level of safety and the best quality of all meals served at Chipotle,” said Mansour Samadpour, Ph.D., CEO of IEH Laboratories and Consulting Group. “I am happy to report that our proposed program was adopted in its entirety, without any modification. While it is never possible to completely eliminate all risk, this program eliminates or mitigates risk to a level near zero, and will establish Chipotle as the industry leader in this area.”

and now we hear this:

Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc said on Tuesday that an incident in which a number of Boston College students were sickened after eating at one of the burrito chain’s restaurants in Boston appeared to be an isolated event.

“There are no reports of illness from any other restaurants, and the pattern here looks like norovirus isolated to one restaurant,” Chipotle spokesman Chris Arnold told Reuters.

Health officials are investigating whether the 30 students were affected by E.coli. Chipotle has been linked to an E.coli outbreak in nine states, not including Massachusetts.

They insist it is an isolated incident.

Would you go to that restaurant until  you were positive that food was safe?  If given their history would you be bigoted for singling out Chipotle for your caution?

Or maybe you want something closer to what we’re talking about so imagine this scenario:

Imagine the Feds despite all the previous food safety issues Chipotle partnered with the Feds for a pilot program to allow people on EBT to use their cards there. Let’s say that the FDA claims that they have totally vetted Chipotle and while there might have been issues in the past all such outbreaks of E-Coli have been contained.

Then picture a bunch of people using this program not only getting violently ill after eating at Chipotle but discovering that the very location where they got sick was one vetted by the FDA and passed with flying colors.

Wouldn’t simple logic dictate the FDA pause the program at least in terms of Chipotle, until the food inspection process was completely reviewed?  Or would they just keep sending the poor to Chipotle to eat?

This is the exact situation we have here.

We have been told that our people have been completely vetting immigrants, and will do an excellent job vetting the thousands who the president wants to come.  At almost the same time our president had told us that there are no imminent threats and we’d be told if there was a threat we’d be told.

Within a week 14 americans are dead and more wounded and we discover that one of the supposedly vetted terrorist had ties with radical Islam, both were radicalized for a long time and now we hear this:

A $28,500 deposit was made to Syed Farook’s bank account from on or about Nov.18, some two weeks before he and his wife Tashfeen Malik carried out the San Bernardino massacre, a source close to the investigation told Fox News Monday.

Just a reminder supposedly all transactions over $10 G’s are flagged but the government for examination.

So Donald Trump seeing the failure of the vetting progress and realizing that while not all muslims are ISIS terrorists  all ISIS terrorists are muslims comes to the conclusion that until we know as he put it “what the hell is going on” we shouldn’t admit any muslims into the country. Or rephrased, until we KNOW that the guys doing the vetting process are doing it right we simply can’t allow people in who can’t be vetted.

This seems to be basic logic.

Can someone explain why it’s in the interest of the United States to admit muslims into this country, particularly from areas where ISIS if we don’t know our vetting is working.  Particularly when you consider this salient fact:

Though President Barack Obama claimed that America must “enlist Muslim communities” to combat terrorism in his Sunday evening Oval Office address, former FBI Counterterrorism Agent John Guandolo said on Monday’s Breitbart News Daily (6AM-9AM EST on Sirius XM Patriot channel 125) that since 9/11, “we collectively have received nearly zero help from the Muslim Community.”

I submit and suggest that not following Trump’s advice would be like FDR allowing open immigration from Germany, Japan & Italy from 1942-1945 it would not only be stupid and criminal, it will cost american lives.

Of course nbsp;I think that it’s a crying shame we’ve reached the point where such a suggestion is logical and rational , but the fault isn’t with Trump for making this suggestion, the fault is with this administration and its enablers who have been willing to put up with a bad vetting system and the American Islamic community that has been less concerned with terror than with the bad PR that comes from it.

Update: fixed bad tags, plus Erick Erickson:

Trump is brilliantly smart here from a short term political perspective. He just forced almost all of the GOP field to side with both Barack Obama and MSNBC. The other Republicans could have critiqued Trump’s proposal by offering a counter proposal, but instead they all went right to attacking Trump himself. As we have seen thus far, these attacks are interpreted by at least a quarter of the GOP base as attacks on them because Trump is offering policy proposals and is countered not by other proposals, but by attacks.

Beat Trump by treating him like a candidate. Challenge his proposals. Attacking Trump for being unhinged, an idiot, or some other personal attack is just read as an attack on his voters. Twenty-four hours after Barack Obama gave one of the stupidest speeches ever to be given from the Oval Office — a speech that did not reassure anyone — Donald Trump opened negotiations on a different position and he started with “ban all the muslims.” Donald Trump is a negotiator. The GOP should not have attacked Trump, but engaged in the negotiations with “That’s probably not constitutional, but here is what I would do to accomplish the same thing, which is to keep Americans safe from Islamic radicals.”

Nope, they couldn’t do that. And because of the hysterical response from so many, including good friends of mine on the right, Trump wins the round.

and John Hawkins goes farther:

Immigration is not good for America. At least, not anymore. Immigration has benefitted our nation a great deal and it certainly can do so again, but as long as our current rules are in place, immigration can only hurt our country.

I disagree with John, but Trump is right.

The clock is ticking down on the Obama years.  We have under 410 days to go.

That being the case it is highly likely that in the best traditions of Chicago pols the administration has likely decided that it’s time to destroy the evidence.

I predict that in the next 12 months a vast amount of paper and electronic data is going to find itself lost, destroyed or modified before anyone can get an eye on it.

I would strongly advise the GOP to start demanding records now because by this time next year they are not going to exist, at least not in its current form

And for those who question this advice ask yourself if an administration so willing to ignore the constitution and federal over the last seven years is going to be all that worried about violating one more.
