Pride goes before disaster, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

Proverbs 16:18

An interesting line from Mike Huckabee concerning Evangelicals in Iowa:

“A lot of these organizations wouldn’t have the ability to do urgent fundraising because if we slay the dragon, what dragon do they continue to fight? And so, for many of them, it could be a real detriment to their organization’s abilities to gin up their supporters and raise the contributions, and I know that sounds cynical but, Todd, it’s just, it is what it is,” Huckabee said.

Now there are several ways to take this:

  1. Mike Huckabee thinks and/or knows that evangelical leaders in Iowa are just out for the money
  2. MIke Huckabee is so prideful that he believes he has a divine right to the evangelical vote
  3. Mike Huckabee is upset and said something he thinks but really shouldn’t have said

At least one of these statement but possibly all of these statements are true

I can’t comment on the sincerity of the people Mr. Huckabee is talking about.  He knows them, I don’t however I can say that this was a very bad idea to attack the hands that have fed you over the years as Allahpundit put it:

I’m trying to think of another case where a member of a movement as prominent as Huckabee is among politically active evangelicals has turned around and basically accused the rest of the movement of being money-grubbing frauds. Because that’s what he’s doing here,

and looks a lot like the sin of pride.

The decision by these leaders do not mean they dislike or disagree with you, they just like a different candidate more.

For example, I like Rick Santorum a lot, he’s my 2nd choice in the field, but my endorsement of Ted Cruz isn’t a condemnation of Rick Santorum, it’s an acknowledge that I think Ted Cruz is a better choice at this time.

Now I’m not an evangelical although I’m supporting one (Ted Cruz) for president but if any evangelical is skeptical of a pastor in general or the movement in particular (and even if they’re not)  I’d of course recommend Catholicism over any Protestant denomination not only because of the sacraments, but because it’s true.

If I was Huckabee I’d really rethink this not just in terms of political wisdom but of christianity because that might be considered calumny.

Either way Mike Huckabee has one advantage in this situation.  The people he is saying this about are required to forgive him, it’s a non-optional Christian doctrine.

Abandoned Detroit high school
Abandoned Detroit high school

By John Ruberry

Last week five public schools in Detroit were closed due to sick-outs, that is, these for-the-kids educators called in sick when they weren’t, likely by the direction of the Detroit Federation of Teachers.

This is a strike in everything but name, and teacher strikes are illegal in Michigan. And no one it seems, except for Detroit News reporter Ingrid Jacques, to be angry about these phone-in walk outs. Why aren’t the parents up in arms?

Detroit Public Schools, a nest of malfeasance for decades, are currently being run by a state emergency manager. Next month DPS faces a balloon debt millstone–after which its debt obligations may exceed its benefits and payroll expenses. Bankruptcy may be coming soon to DPS.

You can cancel the “Detroit is Back!” party, although President Obama will be in the Motor City for North American International Auto Show and will undoubtedly hail the resurgence of Detroit.

Monday, according the Guardian, the teacher sick-out may spread to forty schools.

Will the “sick” teachers be punished? Will their union be cited for organizing an illegal strike? Will Detroit parents finally get angry? The parents should already be angry because for the fourth straight year Detroit’s elementary schools ranked last in reading and math scores among big cities.

Pick your cliché: Do you prefer “rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic?” Or is it “Fiddling while Rome burns?”

Let me conclude about Detroit’s so-called resurgence since the city emerged from bankruptcy in 2014. Yes, there are construction and rehab projects under way, mostly downtown, in Midtown, and in New Center. Yes, some hipsters have moved into those areas as well as Corktown. But eventually some of them will start families. The prospect of sending their children to a DPS school–along with the burden of a municipal income tax, will likely send those hipsters packing.

UPDATE January 11: 58 schools are closed today because of the latest sick-out.

One of my regular stops on the net is to the Elder of Ziyon links page which gives an excellent roundup of what is happening in Israel.  On Friday I saw this piece linked:

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu responded on Friday to an investigative report that appeared last night on Channel 2’s “Uvda” show, which revealed how radical leftist activists hand Palestinian Arabs over to the Palestinian Authority (PA) to be executed.

Right-wing activists infiltrated leftist groups and caught the activist Ezra Nawi on camera saying he gives the PA the names of Arabs who are interested in selling land to Jews, so that the PA can torture and “kill them.” Other radical leftists were also exposed involved in the activities.

I did not recognize the name of Ezra Nawi so I googled him and found his entry in Wikipedia which says the following at of 12:53 PM on Friday January 8th.

Ezra Itzhak Nawi (Hebrew: עזרא יצחק נאווי‎; born 1952) is an Israeli human rightsactivist and pacifist. He is particularly active among the Bedouin herders and farmers of the South Hebron Hills[1] and against the Israeli illegal settlements.[2] He has been described as a “Ta’ayush nudnik“,[3] and “a working-class, liberal gay version of Joe the Plumber“.[4][5]

His critics regard him as an extreme leftist activist and troublemaker.[6][7] He has been charged for numerous infractions of the law, convicted for a number of offences, and served several short stints in prison as a consequence of his activism.[2] According toDavid Shulman, he is an Israeli exponent of Gandhian civil disobedience.[8][9][10]

Now I’m not a pacifist nor do I claim to be an expert on Gandihian civil disobedience but I’m pretty sure it doesn’t involve neither turning over the names of people to “governments” so they can be executed for selling land.  I also don’t know Joe the Plumber but I’m not aware of him secretly or otherwise trying to arrange the death of anyone for trying to sell land they own.

And of course this practice is being defended by the group doing it while claiming:

B’Tselem added that it “opposes all torture and all executions…whether they are done in Shin Bet (Israeli Security Agency) cellars or in the Palestinian Authority,” but did not comment on the fact that the sales are reported with the full intention that the seller should be killed.

That in itself is ironic, but consider for a second we are talking about a Jew actively working for the death of Palestinian Arabs, who is celebrated by the left.

So remember if you are a Jew, leftist are OK with you facilitating the death of Palestinian Arabs, as long as they are the right Arabs.
