It has been my privilege to have been a citizen of the great state of Georgia for nearly 35 years now.

The old adage that time files is more than a truism.

One of the things that attracted my family to the “New South” was the tremendous opportunities for growth and advancement in the Metro-Atlanta, GA area.

When my family moved down to Atlanta, GA we observed that the “spiritual climate” of this area was radically different from what we had experienced in our beloved Northeastern United States (New England and the Mid-Atlantic respectively).

People who live in the Northeast are more reserved when it comes to expressing their faith or lack thereof.

Conversely, men and women who live in the Southeast inhabit a region of the country known as the “Bible belt.”

The Bible belt is distinguished by the tremendous number of Christian Churches (Evangelical Protestant, Roman Catholic, and Orthodox).  There is also a noticeable present albeit much smaller of prominent Jewish synagogues.

Religious people of all persuasions – Christian, Jewish, Islamic, or even Atheist are much quicker to share their belief system with you in the “Bible belt” than in the Northeastern United States.

Atlanta, Georgia was known as a “Southern Sleepy City” up through the early 1960s until men of Vision such as the late Coca-Cola CEO Robert Woodruff along with the great Atlanta, Mayor William B. Hartsfield worked with the Metro-Atlanta, GA Chamber of Commerce to develop a mission statement that stated that

“Atlanta A City Too Busy To Hate!”

This slogan provided a “sense of mission” – a mission statement? – that helped the city to navigate the turbulent years of the modern Civil Rights Era (1946 through 1971) and it also helped the Metro-Atlanta region transform the deep South from an economic stagnant backwards region into both and educational and industrial / information sector powerhouse.

When the Supreme Court mandated educational integration in the famous Brown vs. Board of Education decision of 1954, Southern states like Alabama (see Governor George Wallace) and Mississippi (Governor Ross Barnett) played to the fears of intransigent Whites who cried, “Segregation today, Segregation tomorrow, and Segregation Forever!”

The leaders of The City of Atlanta took a different approach; the city’s business leaders stressed that while they publicly endorsed legal segregation that they would not allow their political views to keep the city from moving forward economically.

Former Atlanta, GA mayor Ivan Allen (1961-69) was the only politician from the “Deep South” to endorse the landmark 1964 Civil Rights Bill which did away with legalized segregation.

(Allen previously was a strong proponent of “Jim Crow” etiquette, but his awakening took place in the early 1960s as the preaching of the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. awakened him to the immorality of treating people of color as second 2nd class citizens.)

The City of Atlanta had a somewhat clandestine “power elite” that was made up of  the Clergy, Wealthy & Well-connected Whites along with their Clergy and best Educated and Business counterparts in the Negro community.

Together and behind the scenes the White and Negro “power elite” provided invaluable leadership to propel Atlanta, Georgia into its role as the Business, Political, and Spiritual capital of the “New South.”

Shortly after Pastor Martin Luther King, Jr. won the “Nobel Prize” for Peace in 1964, the Atlanta “power elite” made sure that they set up an integrated (bi-racial) gathering to honor Dr. King at the Dinkler Plaza Hotel in 1965.

This event was one of the first truly integrated events in the city’s history bringing together an unbelievably large group of 1,500 people!

The men chiefly responsible for this historic event were (this is not an exhaustive listing) “Atlanta leaders Ralph McGill, editor and publisher of the Atlanta Constitution, Rabbi Jacob Rothschild of The Temple, Morehouse President Dr. Benjamin E. Mays, and Archbishop Paul Hallinan, came together as a committee to organize this event” [Source:  Atlanta Daybrook Internet News–mlk-jr-peace/].

Atlanta Mayor Ivan Allen was an enthusiastic supporter and the Coca-Cola Patriarch Robert Woodruff lent his name and considerable support.  The then Coca-Cola President Paul Austin was proud to be a part of the Dinkler Plaza Hotel night honoring the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr.

The City of Atlanta has truly been “A City Too Busy to Hate.”

Over the next couple of weeks, I would like to show some more positive aspects of this city motto along with some of the attendant problems that have accompanied the city’s endeavors to be faithful to this mission of being “A City Too Busy to Hate.”

AP reports,

Trump’s newly hired senior aide, Paul Manafort,

He of the Soviet connections,

made the case to Republican National Committee members that Trump has two personalities: one in private and one onstage.”When he’s out on the stage, when he’s talking about the kinds of things he’s talking about on the stump, he’s projecting an image that’s for that purpose,” Manafort said in a private briefing.

I would like to know why is Trump’s advisor granted a private briefing with the RNC rules committee, but I digress.

Trump indeed has been projecting an image for the last forty years: The image of a thoroughly disreputable scammer, a liar and a cheat, a man who repeatedly went on air with Howard Stern to degrade and insult women (including the mothers of his children), and whose supporters are issuing death threats to GOP delegates. The same Donald Trump who promises to change the GOP platform on abortion, after saying women who had abortions should be punished, a position he – surprise! – later backtracked.

Manafort assured the GOP (emphasis added),

“You’ll start to see more depth of the person, the real person. You’ll see a real different guy,” he said.

Manafort is one of the lobbyists Trump hired recently, yet

In fact, the last time Manafort was intricately involved in a presidential campaign was Bob Dole’s unsuccessful 1996 bid, and he has been largely absent from GOP politics and Washington for years.

As William Jacobson explained,

Trump is playing his core supporters, knows he can’t win a national election with his current message, and is planning to change characters mid-play to soothe the GOP elites he rails against to get you worked up.

Let me state this as directly as possible: If you support Trump, you are being played.

Trump isn’t worthy of your trust.

And now even his top advisor has spelled it out for you.

Fausta Rodriguez Wertz writes on U.S, and Latin American politics, news, and culture at Fausta’s Blog.

I went back to my room and thought to myself, “This has happened fr the best. Everyone will see that he’s mad and lock him up…But—would you believe it —-Caligula’s divinity was accepted by everyone without question.

Robert Graves I Claudius 1934

It’s now been 48 hours since the firing of Curt Schilling and all I can think of is the Emperor’s new clothes.

The gist of the story for those who don’t know it is that a pair of con men convince an emperor that they can make cloth that is invisible to those who are incompetent fools and convinced that their inability to see said cloth confirmed their own feelings of inadequacy everyone goes along with it until a young child seeing the Emperor marching in his new clothes says: “But he has nothing on!” and the whole crowd joins the chant.

In the ESPN/Disney version the child is removed from his parents and reeducated and the parents severely punished for daring to contradict the official version of events and held up as an example for those who might be tempted to do the same while at the same time trying to deny that the child ever existed.

Now the logical protest to this would be for men to go to ESPN & and to Disney its parent company put on a wig and enter the ladies rooms and stay there.

Of course one might assume that given their reaction to Mr. Schilling their restrooms might be all unisex, however when somebody asked

After repeated attempts to contact the media giant by the time of this publication, Disney failed to comment to CR on whether or not it would implement gender-neutral bathroom standards at its parks in Southern California and Orlando, Florida. The question was posed in multiple calls made Thursday morning to Disney’s Corporate Communications headquarters, but to no avail. As of the time of this writing, Disney has still not responded to multiple questions about whether it will adopt gender-neutral bathroom policies.

Given their reaction to Mr. Schilling I think the answer to that question at both ESPN and Disney would be obvious but you see while Disney fears being targeted by the organized and well funded LGBT community they fear even more announcing a policy that might persuade parents of children to decide that perhaps the Magic Kingdom isn’t the safest place to take their kids.

Because the real issue isn’t the infinitesimally tiny amount of people who are deluded enough to believe the are a different sex than they actually are, the issue is creating a set of rules that will empower much greater amount of predators who will take advantage of these rules to enable their less than honorable goals.

It’s a combination of fear and narcissism combined that is driving this and the only answer to it is courage and truth.

And that brings us to Pope Francis.

Yesterday I continued my series quoting the Pope’s document Amoris Laetitia that despite being well received & highly spun by the left is packed from beginning to end with orthodox Catholic teaching.

In the aforementioned post I noted this paragraph: (emphasis mine)

56. Yet another challenge is posed by the various forms of an ideology of gender that “denies the difference and reciprocity in nature of a man and a woman and envisages a society without sexual differences, thereby eliminating the anthropological basis of the family. This ideology leads to educational programmes and legislative enactments that promote a personal identity and emotional intimacy radically separated from the biological difference between male and female. Consequently, human identity becomes the choice of the individual, one which can also change over time”. It is a source of concern that some ideologies of this sort, which seek to respond to what are at times understandable aspirations, manage to assert themselves as absolute and unquestionable, even dictating how children should be raised. It needs to be emphasized that “biological sex and the socio-cultural role of sex (gender) can be distinguished but not separated”. On the other hand, “the technological revolution in the field of human procreation has introduced the ability to manipulate the reproductive act, making it independent of the sexual relationship between a man and a woman. In this way, human life and parenthood have become modular and separable realities, subject mainly to the wishes of individuals or couples”. It is one thing to be understanding of human weakness and the complexities of life, and another to accept ideologies that attempt to sunder what are inseparable aspects of reality. Let us not fall into the sin of trying to replace the Creator. We are creatures, and not omnipotent. Creation is prior to us and must be received as a gift. At the same time, we are called to protect our humanity, and this means, in the first place, accepting it and respecting it as it was created.

We must conclude therefore by the standards of Disney & ESPN that Pope Francis by publicly making such statement to the world is a bigot who would not be suitable for employment by them.

I think that I would be very interested in seeing Disney & ESPN’S opinion on the subject wouldn’t you?

The advantage to working for myself is that nobody can fire me for saying the truth, no matter how unpopular aloud.

The disadvantage is that doing so only pays what you are willing to give.
