Today is the feast of Sts Peter and Paul and it’s very fitting that they share a feast day because the two men illustrate so well two specific natures of Christianity in General and the Catholic Church in Particular.

First look at the contrast, Peter the uneducated fisherman, the hothead, the loudmouth yet for all of those things is the first to declare Jesus as the Christ and is appointed the head of Jesus’ church on earth.

Paul the educated scholar, the pharisee, a Roman Citizen at the very top of the heap, a man well versed in the law yet so blind he could not see what a poor fisherman could until God literally wacks him upside the head and blinds him and a man sly enough to know how to play the Jewish factions against each other.

Two more different men you could not find yet both are united in being called by Christ and willing to accept that call despite horrible consequences.

That is the Catholic Church, the rich, the poor, the educated, the laborer, the sly, the hot tempered, all different types of people, united in the call of Christ and seeking to follow him.

Yet while this first nature reflects the Church well the 2nd which Peter and Paul had in common reflects it even better.

Paul the persecutor, who watched approvingly the stoning of Stephen, the man who admits openly that he does what he doesn’t want to do and works even harder for fear of losing his salvation.

And Peter, the man who up front tells Christ “Depart from me for I am a sinful man” the man who denies Christ Three times the man who even in his old age, by tradition has to be guilted by Christ to go back to Rome to face crucifixion.

The common thread, both were sinners, called to Christ and whose belief didn’t make them immune from sin or flaws, but made them able to overcome them through the forgiveness of Christ.

That is the best definition of a Christian there is, it’s also why those who attack Christians because they have flaws or sins demonstrate their ignorance. A Christian isn’t defined by lack of sin (though we do our best to avoid it) , a Christian is defined by striving toward Christ’s perfection despite our sins and flaws, sometimes falling, sometimes failing but always getting back up, asking for Christ’s pardon and carrying on

Zika virus is ravaging in South America. It has been linked to thousands of cases of microcephaly in Brazil, and now it’s emerging in Colombia, since, for Zika-infected pregnancies, microcephaly risk may be as high as 13 percent.

While the virus is mostly transmitted by mosquitos, a man with Zika can transmit the virus to his sex partner(s) through sexual intercourse.

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) keeps a tally of Zika cases in the USA.

Here in Florida there have been 162 cases of travel-associated Zika. The first baby with Zika-related microcephaly was born this week (emphasis added)

The birth mother is a Haitian national who came to Florida to give birth. She was infected with the Zika virus in Haiti.

While the baby was in the hospital,

Senate Democrats on Tuesday blocked a deal providing funding for the fight against the Zika virus, virtually guaranteeing that Congress won’t get legislation to President Obama’s desk this month.

John Sexton points out that the

Democrats seem to have resolved not to vote for the bill, in part, because Planned Parenthood told them not to do so.

Indeed (emphasis added),

After clamoring for new Zika funding for months, they are set to vote against a bill at funding levels they’ve already agreed to. They’ve offered myriad objections: That the bill is paid for irresponsibly, inordinately relaxes clean water regulations and was constructed with no Democratic input. On Tuesday morning, Planned Parenthood wrote all Senate offices opposing the bill, arguing that “a vote against this bill will be seen as a vote for women’s health care.”

Bottom line: The Dems, the members of the party which passed the ruinous Obamacare behind closed doors and advocates for open borders, are taking orders from merchants of death Planned Parenthood, on matters of public health.

You can now add Zika babies to the 60 million victims of Democrat policies.

The House finally came out with their Benghazi report and the reaction to it should surprise nobody that has been paying attention during the Obama years.

Facts notwithstanding the media and the left reflexly defended Hillary Clinton just as they immediately blamed Mitt Romney’s rhetoric (as comically noted here) as soon as the attack took place. The questions from the press to Trey Gowdy are not about the contents of the report but all about “having the goods” or not. Rush Limbaugh put it very well in this headline:

Hillary Clinton Is a Corrupt Security Risk — And Half the Country Doesn’t Care

That half of the country or more doesn’t care about abandonment of these men is self evident but the relevant question, the most important question is this: How is it that half the country doesn’t care?

And this is what the Culture war has been all about.

All that we’ve seen from the left from the Feminism that Stacy McCain has written so eloquently to the rejection of Judeo christianity and finally the no responsibility and no winners mentality that has been nurtured through our school systems and our media has been all about one thing. Taking the most the richest, most powerful, most self assured and most morally centered nation in the history of history. A nation so moral and so steeped in the Christian Ideal that it could sit on top of the an entire world in ruins with the strongest military in the history of history and choose to rebuild it rather than rule it and bringing it down.

And the only way to to do such a thing is to assault the culture as Andrew Breitbart understood:

When I was in my youth in fact even as late as my 20’s at a time when the aptly greatest generation was just starting to die the idea that the American people would allow something like Benghazi to pass was unthinkable.

But the culture war by the left, enabled by those on the right who were unwilling to fight it, has been so successful that saying Christmas vacation is unacceptable to a major university but leaving Americans to die political gain could happen without batting an eyelash.

This is what really hits the nail on the head.
