All this week at DaTechGuyblog while I’ve been in Chicago covering the Catholic Marketing Network and promoting my book our writers have been evaluating the Presidency of Donald Trump at the Six Month Mark. This is because I made an optional request to my writers to do so this week a while back.
Most writers choose to do so via posts
One writer (Christopher Harper) sent me answers to the Questions I posed rather than a post which I’ll leave here in full to show up what I had been looking for My questions are in bold:
How you think he’s done vs how you expected him to do
President Trump has made good on most of his promises, including immigration and the U.S. Supreme Court, which was my main reason to vote for him. I hope he gets two or three more appointments.
Your biggest disappointment
The slow pace of judicial and executive branch appointments
Your biggest cheer
Taking on the media
What you’d like to see
A new tax policy
What you expect to see
A new tax policy
What you think GOP prospects are after six months
It’s too soon to tell. The midterms are a long way off. But the Democrats are engaged in such self-destruction, I see the prospects getting better.
Current Dem prospects after six months (presuming that the current hysteria hasn’t lead them to mass suicide by then)
The Trump administration may have made some errors, but the Dems are a disaster.
So what are my answers to my questions? Where did I expect him to be?
I expected him to be farther along in terms of appointments and policies, a big part of this failure is due to the 24/7 continual opposition where no honeymoon period is allowed which I hadn’t (but perhaps should have) expected, part of it is due to his settling into the office and learning the ropes, but a huge chunk of it in my opinion is the GOP majorities which neither prepared for his victory nor in many cases wanted the responsibilities that such a victory brought with them.
What’s my biggest disappointment? I’ve had several but you will be surprised to learn that my biggest was the failure to move the US Embassy to Jerusalem on day 1. I understand the plan to offer the carrot first but my thought was do it right away and lay down the marker to the Arabs saying: This is how things are.
As for my biggest cheer while I also love his fights with the media for me it was a specific moment when asked about the so called “woman’s” march during an interview with Jonathan Karl he brought up the right to life march and the media’s failure to cover it. This forced the MSM to cover the event properly for the first time ever. I’ll never forget it.
What would I like to see? I’d like to see the wall started and colleges, cities and even states that provide “sanctuary” status defunded along with planned parenthood of course, as for what I expect I suspect it will eventually involve a deal that includes or effects the wall the same with Planned Parenthood. It all will depend how afraid members of the GOP caucus are afraid of Pro-Trump primary opponent
As far as GOP prospects that will really depend on if they get behind the program, even at the start of the Tea Party Movement the GOP wasn’t trusted and they have done little or nothing to earn said trust. If we don’t see Obamacare repealed and the wall at least started the effect on the base turnout will be painful. Some Pro-Trump primary opponents might have a good effect but I’d not be surprised to see establishment folks work against them in a General. If GOP cowardice prevents the wall, saves Obamacare and defends planned parenthood. there will be only one thing that saves the GOP….
…and that the fact that Current Democrat Prospects are even worse you still have the Bernie Hillary divide and narrative of Senator Harris as the great liberal savior won’t mean squat in the midterms. In fact the only reason Democrat failure, division and the party’s money gap won’t consign them to the ash heap of history is the alternative choice to Democrat crazies are Republican cowards.
The smartest thing the GOP can do is get out there and define Senator Harris. I’d link her to every outrageous act the party does and to every unpopular thing they support from illegal immigration to coddling Iran and Islamic Terror. This must be done NOW.
The good news is I trust President Trump to be smart enough to adapt and will recognize these problems and act. The bad news is I can’t say the same for the GOP caucus.
