Don’t impose on me bro!

Everyone is imposing on everyone. You’d think that reading the headlines. Today’s latest is Jeff Sessions imposing religious beliefs on people:

“Freedom of religion is one of our nation’s most fundamental values, which is why it is already strongly protected by the First Amendment to the Constitution,” Isaacs said. “But the freedom of religion does not give people the right to impose their beliefs on others, to harm others, or to discriminate.”

Hmm, let’s break this down. So Sessions says that religious organizations can be exempt from providing abortion care, and Rebecca Isaacs says that’s imposing Christianity on someone. Did Sessions say you have to believe abortion is wrong? Did he ban abortion? Did he say insurance providers aren’t allowed to cover abortion?

Nope, not at all.

Imposing your beliefs on someone would be requiring them to participate in things they don’t believe in. So if I required you to have a particular religion or else you couldn’t hold public office (sorta like England and being the King or Queen), then yes, I’d be imposing them on you. Another way would be having two sets of laws, one for some believers and one for another, sort of like the Dhimmi rules in Islam.

We have none of that here. Catholics can put their money towards care that respects life, and pro-abortion folks can fund insurance companies that murder unborn children.

Rebecca Isaacs was totally cool imposing abortion funding on Catholic organizations, requiring them to fund it even when they don’t believe in it. She’s been anti-Trump from day 1, so it’s no surprise she popped up again. It would be nice for the media to recognize that imposing works both ways, and those of us trying to live our lives are tired of being told to fund things we don’t believe in, and that we’re somehow wrong even when we elect people that work to protect our beliefs.
