Jobs are coming back. Wages are going up. Taxes are going down. Consumer spending is at a pre-2007 level. The economy is looking poised to have a strong continuation in 2018 from the progress made in 2017. There are still many things that can derail it quickly, but the biggest risk is born from a hatred of Donald Trump and the Republican Party.

Mainstream media knows a very important reality, as I detailed in my 2018 predictions. Perceptions play an important role in the strength or weakness of the economy. When the general sentiment among Americans is strong, the economy is strong as a result. When people are fearful, certain economic indicators stumble from the concern. That has been the nature of the economy for a few decades since mass media made news travel quickly and broadly. It’s a nature that works through or against self-fulfilling prophecies.

The other reality that mainstream media understands is most Americans make voting decision based upon personal prosperity. In the voting booth, they aren’t as concerned about Israel’s embassy, net neutrality, or obnoxious Tweets as they are the rest of the year. Their biggest concern is which candidate or party is going to make things better, easier, or both for the voter and their family.

Jimmy Carter didn’t just lose to Ronald Reagan. He lost to the poor economic conditions that ravaged the nation through his term. Bill Clinton didn’t beat Bob Dole just because the Republican was boring while the Democrat played the saxophone. He beat Dole because the economy was doing very well at the time.

It’s easier to see during presidential election years, but it’s still prevalent in midterm elections. We vote based upon how much is in our wallets.

Some may be balking right about now. If you’re reading this, you’re probably the exception. In fact, you’ve probably rarely if ever voted for a Democrat since this is a conservative blog with a generally conservative audience. Those on the ideological left and right don’t look at fiscal indicators. Then again, many of us don’t look at anything other than the letter next to the name of the candidate. We’re not the people who decide elections. The swing voters are, and they’re the ones who vote with their wallets. They’re also the target audience for mainstream media when it comes to swaying elections.

We can expect the media to continue their attacks on President Trump. It’s almost as natural for them as covering up for President Obama. The difference is in how they spin everything that happens with the economy. We’re already seeing this in the way they’re spinning reactions from corporate America to the tax cuts. As dozens of major companies started instantly giving extra money to their employees following passage of the tax cuts, mainstream media tried desperately to under-report the moves, or worse, to call them tricks by Trump-loving corporate America.

It’s only going to get more aggressive from here. In 2018, you will be hard-pressed to find any major and positive economic news on mainstream media outside of Fox News and WSJ that isn’t spun to somehow be a negative. When bad economic news comes along, the problem will be magnified and the message will be amplified.

This midterm election is vindication for the media… at least that’s what they hope. They can either prove they still have sway over elections or they will be proven powerless. The easiest way they can cheat their way into power is with Democratic victories. The easiest way for Democrats to win is for the media to declare doom and gloom over the economy. How the economy responds will be based upon whether or not people believe what they hear from the media or what they see in their bank accounts. Unfortunately, many will ignore the obvious for the sake of the left’s incessant narrative.

Season four of the post First World War-set British gangster drama Peaky Blinders returned to Netflix ten days ago. It aired last month on the BBC.

Read my review of the first three seasons here.

For the uninitiated, the show is about, yes, the Peaky Blinders; who are named for the razor blades sewn into their flat caps which they use to attack their foes, that is when they are not shooting them. They are a Gypsy organized crime family headed by Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy). In 1919 Shelby Family Limited is a nothing more than a bookmaking operation based in the grimy Small Heath neighborhood of Birmingham. When season four begins at Christmas in 1925 the Peaky Blinders operation has expanded into London and it has extensive legitimate business holdings.

Hyman Roth told Michael Corleone in The Godfather Part Two, “We’re bigger than U.S. Steel.” Tommy has no such line Peaky Blinders, but it would be credible if he did.

The next paragraph is worthy of a spoiler alert if you haven’t watched the first three seasons.

Season three was a mixed bag for me as the Russian caper that dominated it was a road to storyline-nowhere. That season ended with a bang as Tommy rats out the rest of the Shelby family–and season four picks up from there. And that’s not the only season three hangover. New York mafioso Luca Changretta (Adrien Brody) is seeking vengeance for the murder by the Peaky Blinders of his father and brother. Brody’s performance ranks among his best work. As Changretta, there are traces of Robert De Niro as Vito Corleone accented with the psychoses of Joe Pescsi in Goodfellas.

The 1920s weren’t roaring in Great Britain–the economy struggled and communism gained a foothold within the political sphere. An attractive young communist woman. Jessie Eden (Charlie Murphy), is stirring up trouble in the Shelby factories. Hmm, I wonder where that is heading? Tommy clearly hasn’t forgotten his gambling business roots–he hedges his bets in the struggle by also scheming with the 1st Baron Stamfordham, the king’s private secretary.

To fight Changretta Tommy hires another Gypsy, Aberama Gold (Aidan Gillen), whose reputation for evil even unsettles the other Peaky Blinders. Yes, Gillen is Littlefinger from Game of Thrones.  Gold and Tommy hatch a boxing match caper involving Jewish mobster Alfie Solomons (Tom Hardy).

There is much bloodshed much betrayal. But Tommy perseveres and like a snake slithering up a flagpole, he keeps climbing despite the odds against him in class-obsessed Great Britain.

Will Tommy fall? If he does, we’ll have to wait until at least until season five to find out.

A few days ago Stacy McCain talked about making common cause with Radical Feminists in the battle against the Transgender cult:

This brings us back to Magdalen Berns, who holds a physics degree from the University of Edinburgh and describes herself as “a critic of religion, capitalism, identity politics, conservatism, neoliberalism and socially imposed gender norms.” She’s no right-winger, in other words, yet she is fighting the same “social justice warrior” (SJW) mentality that was exposed in 2014 by the #GamerGate activists. And what a pugnacious fighter she is! It would seem that SJWs have reached their Stalingrad, so to speak, and radical feminists like Magdalen Berns are the Red Army, ferociously defending the embattled city against the onslaught.

Give me such fighters as allies, I say, and I will not quibble with them over ideological differences, so long as the war continues.

Apparently the MSM has taken the same line when it comes to the Iranian Mullahs and Donald Trump.

Over the last few days protests have erupted in Iran and unlike 2009 when Barack Obama (back in the days when we didn’t know what side he was on in the war on terror). The Trump administration spoke up quickly.

as did the Trump state department:

Now given how the “resistance™” the professional left and the media have been crying about facism for the last year you would think the MSM whose customer base supposedly consists of anti-fascists who hate thoracic anti-gay clerics would be all over the protests, and they, at least the staged pro-government ones

You see it’s all about economics pay no attention to the “Death to Khamenei” and “Death to Rouhani.” and all that. As Ace puts it:

CNN and the New York Times (and the AP, and all the rest) are eager conspirators in Obama’s Echo Chamber, and they will not let our “Partner in Peace,” the rabid terrorist Ayatollahs of Iran, go down without giving their level best to prop them up.

And the Business Pac review is not much kinder:

It is time for journalists to rise above the shopworn fray and take up the mantle of another people’s freedom. There are lives on the line; not merely the corporeal heartbeats that drive these people ever on under brutally oppressive conditions, but the lives that may have been, should they have been afforded the basic human dignity to pursue their own dreams.

While standard bearers of the US media like the Washington Post arrogantly proclaim “Democracy Dies in Darkness,” an affront against the faux-dictatorship of President Trump that smacks even more risible in relief to the Iranian mullahs, here is the front page as of this early afternoon.

Why? Well the answer is very simple. The MSM is so completely invested in the defeat of Donald Trump that if he gives speeches against the evil Mullahs like this

and this

or even this from Mike Pence

It just can’t be allowed to stand. Can you imagine Donald Trump getting credit for the fall of the #1 non superpower enemy of the United States over the last 37 years not to mention the side effects of such a win:

Overseeing the fall of an oppressive, hardline Iranian regime that sponsors terror all around the globe – followed by the rise of a democratic Iran not interested in aggression against its neighbors – would be a foreign policy victory for President Trump, one of the biggest for a president since the fall of the Berlin Wall.

If the Iranian regime is ousted, the move would neuter Hezbollah’s primary source of funding. It would diminish Hamas at a time when the United States rightfully is moving its embassy in Israel to Jerusalem in defiance of the United Nations.

Replacement of the Iranian government could signal that Assad’s days in Syria are finally coming to an end, without powerful bullies to back him up. A new Iranian government would also no doubt give Russia pause about meddling in Middle East affairs – a hesitancy it did not have when the Obama administration gave Russian President Vladimir Putin “flexibility.”

As far as the MSM is concerned Donald Trump is the focus of evil in the world, he simply can’t be allowed a success like this and like Stacy McCain making common cause with radical feminists if the MSM and the left has to throw in with a murderous theocrats terrorists well that’s a small price to pay to obtain allies in such a holy crusade.

Update: Once again Jake Tapper is the exception that proves the rule. I have mixed feelings on that. I’m very pleased that Jake is confirming my high opinion of him, but it would be nice SO nice for the MSM to do the same, just once!

My old boss, Roger L. Simon, delves into the first issue that came to my mind when I read that the Iranian people were protesting against the mullahs: the last time it happened. That was in 2009.

Back in those pre-9/11 days when I identified as a liberal, the one thing I was sure drew all my then cohort together was opposition to fascism, whether secular or religious.

Boy, was I wrong and never was that more clear than in 2009 when the Green Movement demonstrators were marching through the streets of Tehran and other Iranian cities, demanding freedom from the mullahs. The whole world was watching, as we used to say in the sixties, only their cause was purer than ours was then. The horrifying theocrats who ran the “Islamic Republic” regularly raped women in prison before they killed them, hanged homosexuals in the streets and tortured just about everyone else who didn’t comply with the edicts of their Islamo-fascist regime.

The students and others marching in the streets to overthrow these tyrants desperately wanted America’s help, specifically the support of our “oh-so-liberal-progressive” president. they shouted, “Obama, Obama, are you with us or are you with them?”

Obama was silent.

I can’t think of a moment I was more disgusted by the acts (inaction actually) of an American president. What did he stand for? What did we stand for?

Well, who knows? What we do know is he wanted to deal with Iran his way — whether to get the glory for himself or for other even less attractive reasons we will never know. He was secretly communicating with Ahmadinejad and Khamenei even before he took office, hinting at accommodation.

“Without preconditions,” as I recall from Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign website. His way, indeed.

Well, we all know about the former president’s Iran Deal. But what of the latest revelation of the previous administration allowing Hezbollah drug cartels free rein to move snowy mountains into the United States?

Iran, Iran, Iran. Senator Obama, then afterward, President Obama, seem intent on pleasing and appeasing the mullahcracy of that nation at any costs — like a courtship.

It’s almost as if they have some hidden hold over him. Or maybe I’m just a racist.

UPDATE: More evidence of … something … from the Times of Israel. Wow.

US intelligence agencies have given Israel the green light to assassinate the senior Iranian responsible for coordinating military activity on behalf of the Islamic Republic in Lebanon, Syria and Iraq, according to the Kuwaiti newspaper al-Jarida.

For the past 20 years or so, Qassem Soleimani has commanded the Quds Force — the branch of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards responsible for military and clandestine operations outside of the Islamic Republic.  (…)

Three years ago, Israel came close to assassinating Soleimani near Damascus, al-Jarida quoted unnamed source as saying, but the Americans [meaning President Obama] tipped off the Iranians against the background of intense disagreement between Washington and Jerusalem.

Today CNN et/all has finally discovered Swatting

A 25-year-old man was arrested in South Los Angeles on Friday night in connection with an alleged “swatting” prank that resulted in a police-involved fatal shooting in Kansas, police said.

Authorities identified the suspect as Tyler Barriss of Los Angeles, KABC-TV reported. They say Barriss is suspected of making a hoax phone call to police in Wichita, Kan., that resulted in the death of an innocent 28-year-old man.

Wichita police officials were investigating whether the hoax phone call they received Thursday was an example of “swatting,” in which someone reports a false emergency in hopes of getting a SWAT team to arrive at a scene where no actual emergency exists.

However this is a topic that we talked about a long time ago

We talked about it on the radio , GOP congressional Candidates spoke out against it, sitting US congressmen and at least one sitting US senator  spoke up on the record concerning it some on camera.  But because it was being used to silence conservatives, the MSM didn’t care:

Even as bloggers took over Memeorandum, Patterico went public on his Swatting, Glenn Beck took noticeAaron Worthing was jailed and Erick Erickson of Red State & CNN was swatted the media remained silent.

It got so bad that I discretely spoke to my local police about it to let them know about the trend so that if anyone made such a call here they would be forewarned.

But the media yawned, in fact it wasn’t until  a letter sent to Eric Holder signed by 63 sitting gop members of congress concerning this trend:

Today, U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., sent a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder regarding recent reports that several conservative political commentators have been targeted with harassing and frightening actions. Chambliss demanded that Holder examine these cases to determine if federal laws have been violated.

These dangerous hoaxes, also known as “SWAT-ting,” occur when a perpetrator contacts local police to report a violent incident at a target’s home. These callers are believed to utilize voice-over IP (VOIP) and other less-traditional telecommunications methods to make the call appear to come from the target residence and to hide the caller’s true identity.

That the MSM gave it any attention at all but alas, as the targets were all conservatives and the letter signed by republicans while it the Obama justice department ignored it and other writers dismissed it.

Of course now five years later that a swatting incident that this has become the story of rogue gamers and police acting before thinking CNN is all over it vs targeted attacks against conservatives for CNN it rates coverage and on air video.

And yet as a family prepares to bury their dead  I have to wonder, if the MSM and the Obama administration had taken the issue seriously when people were warning about it, would a family in Kansas be about to end their new year so badly?

Update: Stacy McCain who knows a few things about being swatted (his swatter was sentenced to jail in 2016) says this:

If you’d like to continue to support independent journalism, the type that covered the swatting stories when CNN didn’t please consider hitting DaTipJar here.

Finally might I suggest my book  Hail Mary the Perfect Protestant (and Catholic) Prayer makes an excellent Gift for the person of faith on your Christmas list?

Happy almost New Year, everyone! I am back. The surgeries went well and I am sore, but recovering. Some friends asked me if I got sent home with good meds, and of course, due to the War On Pain Patients, the answer is “no”, but the pain is less bad than I had expected it to be so other than the fact that I am under doctor’s orders not to do much of anything for the next few weeks, tiring easily, and having itchy (from the healing I am told) booboos on my belly and the aforementioned soreness, I am OK and am getting a little better every day. Thank you to everyone who prayed for me or held me in kind thoughts.

CNN has been trying to stalk President Trump through a gap in some bushes outside of a Florida golf course, like the creepy freaks that they are, and they were stymied by a white box truck that parked in front of said gap. This caused the Counterfeit News Network to lose their collectivist minds:

Joy Villa got lots of attention for showing up on the red carpet at an awards show wearing a Trump MAGA gown, and we deplorables thought that was pretty neat, but it turns out that Joy is not what she pretended to be and is instead simply an opportunist and an attention hog. Dianny unmasked her HERE. I keep saying, “The Trump Curse is real”, and am proven correct every time karma bites one of his attackers in the butt, but Joy Villa did much worse than those who openly attack My Donald and his supporters, she is a big stinking phony who pretended to be aboard the Trump Train and then turned on everyone who had given her support, and now, Joy Villa is imploding. I predict she will circle the drain some more before her impending karmic flush washes her back to the depths of obscurity. And don’t be surprised if she has all kinds of weird bad luck as well (see Lindsey Vonn for example).

MJ Stevenson, AKA Zilla, is best known on the web as Zilla at MareZilla.com. She lives in a woodland shack near a creek, in one of those rural parts of New York State that nobody knows or cares about, with her family and a large pack of guardian companion animals.

Newsweek’s Monday headline blared out, MELANIA TRUMP ORDERS REMOVAL OF NEAR-200-YEAR-OLD TREE FROM WHITE HOUSE.

Not just any old tree, but the tree that Andrew Jackson brought some 200 years ago from Tennessee for his wife.

Notice Melania’s sideways glance,

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

Oh the humanity! She looks askance and down comes Jackson’s magnificent tree!

But, as Ace puts it, CNN, for once, has the real story, rather than Newsweek’s fake news.

Short story: The tree is in danger of falling unexpectedly. It is currently only being held up by artificial support (cables, etc.), but those cables aren’t enough to keep the thing from crashing to the ground and maybe killing someone or damaging the White House.

I admit it, I’m worse than Melania:

My Princeton house had two dozen trees on a half acre. The prior owners thought any tree was a good tree, so there were saplings sprouting off the ground all over the place, and those had to go as soon as we moved in.

Then there was the female gingko that had been (unsuccessfully) semi-chopped down sometime in its past, and periodically covered a large expanse of the front lawn with gummy, stinking, rot.

And let’s not forget the large cedar leaning over the neighbor’s little house, a.k.a. a lawsuit in the making.

Last, but not least, the 50′ tall elm that rotted from the inside, leaving a huge, HOLLOW diseased carcass still standing.

Melania wisely reviewed the information from the specialists at the United States National Arboretum and decided the tree had to come down. I don’t have that kind of resources, so we got rid of the saplings and the gingko without asking anyone else.

I did consult with the local arborist who did our tree maintenance (yes, Virginia, trees need regular maintenance) regarding the cedar and the elm.

The cedar was healthy, so it was turned into mulch for the other trees. The mulching was done after the chipper had been sanitized to avoid possible contagion from trees that had been put through that chipper.

The elm was dead and came down, much to my elderly neighbor’s dismay, as he could not understand that it was a hazard.

So Melania has a ways to go before her total of felled trees nears mine.

The moral of this story is, trees are living things, and, as such, have life spans. Chop responsibly.

Summary: The Doctor Doesn’t want to Regenerate, in fact two of them don’t.

Plot:   The first Doctor and the twelveth Doctor meet in the throes of regeneration.  but neither one wishes to do so.  While they are working on that they are suddenly confronted with first a soldier from the 1st world war and then Bill Potts and then some kind of future alien who is extracting humans from their timeline just before their deaths?   Can the Doctors foil whatever dastardly plan these folks have and even if he can will either of them decide to change.

———————————–

Writing:  This is in effect the perfect story for Steven Moffat to end his run on in that it perfectly encapsulates his entire run of Doctor Who.  Flashes of absolute brilliance (the introduction scenes particularly) an unhealthy obsession with paradoxes, great plot ideas that are at times written brilliantly and at other times weakly.  The general plot of this episode cool but the the writing of that plot while occasionally brilliant, is really kinda…meh and seems all about showing how woke we all are as opposed to that 1st Doctor’s who was basically painted as a stand in for every fan who didn’t like the SJW choice of the next Doctor, lame.

Acting:    As Always Capaldi is very good although I thought his end speech was so weak I would think he would have objected to deliver it.  Pearl Mackie delivers her best performance of the series.  Mark Gatiss carries his role perfectly but the real question was:  “Could David Bradly pull of the 1st Doctor?”  The answer is clearly yes, I just wish the character was treated with more respect or at least some respect. If not for Simm and Gomez this would be the best acted episode of the season if not the Capaldi era.

Memorable Moments: I am younger, Lethbridge Stewart,  Here’s what’s going to happen, What’s Browser History?, This has been cleaned. It would help if you could see properly.

Doctor Who Flashbacks:  Given that this whole episode is a flashback there is much too much to list here.

Oddities:  It seems to me that the Time Lords would not allow the technology in human hands and there is a long history of them not allowing it.  That’s a pretty big plot hole.

Clara has been extracted from her last moment but the time lords have done the same thing so wouldn’t that be an issue?

Pet Peeves:  First the small ones:

The 1st Doctor can’t steer the ship but somehow gets back to the south pole.  Normally you would think:  Fast return switch but the fast return switch would take him back to Rusty.  How does he manage to get there?

The first doctor has obviously been to the future and should know what Browser History is. Furthermore given the shift in timelines and the fact that it’s at the very end of his, he should remember meeting his 2nd, 3rd and fifth selves.

Given the number of people dying in the 1st World War or in fact on earth at any given time shouldn’t there have been thousands caught in the error?

It didn’t take long for me to get REALLY sick of the Capaldi character going after the 1st Doctor for daring to have traditional views.  The whole holier than thou bit was completely insulting but is totally contrary to the whole,  respecting other cultures, business, that the #sjw team pushes.  Of course the exception is the traditional culture of Western Civilization which we are totally allowed to mock.  It’s rather ironic since the story turns on one of the most extraordinary events in the history of western civilization which is completely a product of that culture being attacked.  The 1st Doctor wasn’t there as the brilliant Doctor that he was.  He wasn’t played as the person to whom every single person watching this series, working on this series or making a living off owes everything to.  He was there as a running gag on how backward he and some fans are to the current Doctor Who team. It’s almost as if the entire episode was about preparing the ground rather than giving Capaldi a story to go out on. That was unfair to Capaldi and unfair to Bradley and the 1st Doctor. Personally I found it quite offensive.

You might be surprised by this peeve as I’ve already objected to the SJW change in Doctor Who but I also think Jodi Whitaker was treated poorly in her premiere in the role. Does she get memorable lines? Does she get memorable scenes, nope. After a completely forgettable (and almost unintelligible) first line the first thing the first woman Doctor to Pilot the TARDIS does is touch one button and gets herself completely ejected from the ship. Thus the first thought when seeing the first scene of Jodi Whitaker as the Doctor is “bad woman driver”.  One might argue that it was similar to Matt Smith’s start but her character didn’t even manage what he did.  Not the way you want to write the 1st scene of the 1st woman Doctor is it?  What a gyp and how unfair to her.

The Captain: [in shell hole pointing pistol at a wounded German also pointing pistol] There is something I should like to say. That is, there is something I would very much like you to understand. I do not have the slightest desire to kill you. The only reason why I would do so is self defense. However since you are aware that I might kill you in self defense, there is the strong possibility that you might kill me in self defense. It does rather make me rather wish you spoke English…

The Captain:: She’s coming, she’s coming. It’s her.
1st Doctor: Not human I think. State your planet of origin and your intentions. This is Earth, a level five civilization.t
12th Doctor: and it is protected!
1st Doctor: It’s what? [Alien disappears]
12th Doctor Oh OK Well that usually doesn’t work.
1st Doctor: Protected by whom?

Captain: Is this madness? Am I going mad
12th Doctor: Well you’re an officer from world war 1 at the south pole being persued by an alien through frozen time. Madness was never this good

The Captain:: Yes, but what do you mean, one?
12th Doctor: Oh, Sorry Spoilers

Bill: Do what you always do, serve at the pleasure of the human race?

1st Doctor: Where are we going?
The Glass Woman: Escape is not possible
12th Doctor: It is possible and it is happening and I’m taking Bill and the Captain with me.
1st Doctor: Why are you advertising your intentions? Can’t you stop boasting for a moment?
12th Doctor: Mr. Patient too, I could do with a laugh
The Glass Woman: Escape is not possible
12th Doctor: Oh I’m going to do way more than escape. I’m going to find out who you are and what you are doing and if I don’t like it, I will come come back and stop you. I will stop all of you!
1st Doctor: Who the hell do you think you are?

*************************************************************************************************************

1st doctor: Good is not a practical survival strategy. It requires loyalty, self sacrifice, love. So why does good prevail? What keeps the balance between good and evil in this appalling universe? Is there some kind of logic, some mysterious force?
Bill: Perhaps there is just, a bloke.
1st Doctor: A bloke?
Bill: Yeah, perhaps there is just some bloke, wandering around, putting everything right when it goes wrong.
1st doctor: Well that would be a nice story wouldn’t it?
Bill: That would be the best?

****************************************************************************************

12th Doctor: Oh! It’s not an evil plan! I don’t know really what to do when it’s isn’t an evil plan.

Final Verdict:   4 1/2 stars.  The day before I watched this episode was the first day I had watch any episode of Doctor Who since they announced Jodi Whitaker as the new Doctor.  My sons had it on Christmas Eve and I watched some with them and it reminded me of how much I once loved the show.  However the spark remains gone so this is ironically the 1st episode that I’ve watched with the eyes of a pure critic vs the eyes of a fanboy of 41 years.  I think there was a lot of waste here. This is a good episode for many reasons. It is entertaining, some of the plotting is pretty original, the contrast between the Doctor as explorer vs protector and the resolution with the captain but While entertaining the Doctor’s don’t actually DO anything. The 1st Doctor stands around while the 12th Doctor makes fun of him as a sexist. This could have and should have been a grand adventure, instead it was a lecture on being woke, yet another example of our generation preaching how much smarter they are than every single one that came before it. Ironically the best scene is Bill’s scene with the 1st Doctor concerning good and evil which is wonderful. I’ve never seen an episode both so deep and so shallow at the same time.

Ranking of Season: 5th of 10th  The real problem for this episode, other than the sickening lectures is that it has to compete with the absolutely brilliant performances of  Michelle Gomez throughout the season and John Simm and her in previous episodes that raised the bar to a point where even two doctors just couldn’t match it. While the resolution on this episode were not as horrible as the episode that preceded it the Simm/Gomez combo made up for the deficiencies in said episode more than the Bradley/Capaldi stuff did.

FYI you might wonder why I rated this episode so high if I was so offended? The answer. It’s a TV show whose primary purpose is to entertain, for all it’s faults. It was entertaining and very clever at spots.

Top 10 Ranking in the Capaldi Era:  In my previous review I said the following “In a season full of disappointing episodes the fact that this one  wasn’t able to crack the top 10 of the Capaldi era is the biggest disappointment of all.”  The fact that a multi Doctor Episode that includes the regeneration scene of the 12 Doctor couldn’t crack the top ten of the Capaldi era should be a disgrace and in fact is one.  Of course you might say that it’s all because the episodes already in the top ten were so damn good (and they were) but still the Christmas special combining two doctors and including two regenerations is a big thing and it should have been a lot better than it was.
