Sgt. Schulz: [seeing the prisoner wearing Hitler mustaches and doing a Nazi salute] Bah! One Fuhrer is enough!
Stalag 17 1953
Today My son was playing the Youtube video on the tricks that makers of WW 2 video game RAID had to go though pass legal muster for sale in Germany because of their strict laws concerning Nazi references
It got me thinking, one might understand these laws in the context of the occupation of Germany post WW 2, but it’s now 2018 nearly 75 years after the fall of the 3rd Reich and it’s still going on. I don’t know what it tell you but here is what it tells me:
Germany’s Insistence on censoring WW 2 video Games removing any reference to Hitler or Nazi symbols mean that German lawmakers simply don’t trust their own people not to go all 4th Reich if given the slightest bit of encouragement.
Now I don’t claim to know more about the German cultural Psyche than actual Germans but it seems to me that if they think their people are just one video game image of Hitler away from having another go at conquering the Europe and then the world, then the next time someone suggests moving US bases out of Germany and letting the Germans handle their own defense I think I’m going to politely disagree.
