Beset But Not Bowed

by baldilocks

Yesterday was weird. Today is even weirder and much more horrifying.

A fake bomber and a real mass shooter; the former, a huge Trump fan, the latter, rabidly anti-Trump and a hater of Jews.

The fake bomber neither killed nor injured, intentionally, it seems.

The mass shooter has killed 11 people — so far — at a Pittsburgh Synagogue, and injured several police officers. I read that he turned himself in by crawling into custody. Fitting.

The Left blames President Trump for the actions of both lunatics. Naturally.

Meanwhile …

The Caravan to the US is still on the move, snaking its way through Mexico. Fun fact: Mexico invited them to stay, but they turned up their noses at the offer.

[The Caravan rejected] Mexico’s generous offer of political asylum, along with jobs, medical care, and big benefit packages. According to this Associated Press report, they’d rather confront Trump.

Migrants traveling in a caravan through southern Mexico have rejected a proposal by President Enrique Pena Nieto that they apply for refugee status in the country and obtain benefits.

Coordinators of the caravan read out the president’s plan called “You are at home.” Migrants shouted “Gracias!” but “No, we’re heading north!”

Interesting factoids below.

NBC News reports that Mexicans were picking off the smaller groups that have spun off from the original caravan mass and declaring them illegal. The smaller groups, by the way, have reportedly spun off because of the presence of so many criminals and gang members in the ranks of the larger group, with LaJeunesse reporting that the invading army has fallen from 7,000 to 4,000. The pickoffs, however, seem to be followed by calls from the far-left caravan-organizers to stay with the larger group, which just happens to support their original political aim of using of the caravan of large numbers to confront Trump and render the U.S. border meaningless.

Weird week. Month. Two years. Century.

When Barack Obama was president, I commented several times that this country seemed beset on every side. And even though Donald Trump is president, that hasn’t changed. There are still those who wish to see this country fundamentally transformed into a border-less, gun-less utopia while the criminal and the murderous — like the Pittsburgh shooter and the drug cartels — terrorize everyone else.

Yet even on another day when innocent people have died violently, there is one thing to be grateful for: that the person who sits in the Oval Office is not an enemy of American citizens. At least we’re not being betrayed by our leader.

That won’t always be so.

Meanwhile, I’ll pray for those who are in indescribable emotional pain. In this fallen world, there will be evil like this. I hope it doesn’t come to my own doorstep, but if it does, I want to be ready spiritually.

Because that’s the only way you can truly be ready for something like that. Remember how the family of the Charleston AME Church shooting victims reacted toward the perpetrator? That’s what I’m talking about.

Don’t be afraid.
