IL 14: Has Democrat Lauren Underwood ever worked as a nurse?

One issue that the Democrats have had some success with during this election cyle – other than frenzied hatred of President Trump – is health insurance coverage for preexisting medical conditions.

Here’s a juicy story for voters to take their temperature on. A Democrat who is a registered nurse, Lauren Underwood, is running to unseat four-term incumbent Republican Randy Hultgren in a district on the northern and western edge of Chicago’s suburban sprawl.

As a nurse who worked on the Affordable Care Act,” Good Morning American fawned about Underwood recently,” she knew her patients relied on their coverage for medications and procedures,”

It’s such a lie,” Underwwood told Time last month about Republicans like Hultgren who have vowed to protect Americans in need of health care insurance with pre-existing conditions. “I think it insults the intelligence of the voters.”

But the Kane County Reporter, an online publication tied to conservative political operative and Chicago radio host Dan Proft, is reporting that while Underwood does have a nursing degree and is a registered nurse, she’s never toiled in the field.

From the Kane County Reporter:

That Underwood never actually worked as a nurse— in college or after graduation— might come as a surprise to voters in the 14th Congressional District, now familiar with the torrent of television advertisements depicting her with a stethoscope serving patients.

According to her Linkedin page, Underwood’s first job out of school in 2010 was with the Obama Administration working on Obamacare’s roll-out. She says she was “preparing memos and briefing materials” for Kathleen Sebelius, the then-U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services.

Underwood worked six years for President Obama, her salary rising from $67,114 to $98,289, before quitting after he left office, in Jan. 2017.

Here’s an Underwood ad, “It’s On,” which I’ve seen on cable at home a dozen or so times, of Underwood in medical scrubs using that aformentioned stethoscope. The ad, according to the Kane County Reporter, was filmed at a dental office near her home.

And here’s another Underwood spot, “Nurses Get Results,” where she says, in scrubs again, “As a nurse [Where have I heard that before, “as a nurse?”] I’ve spent my career expanding health care services for communities across our country.”

True in a way, perhaps. But apparently not by treating patients. Oh, did Good Morning America find any of Underwood’s patients? But the liberal candidate did tell Now This Politics, “As a nurse [She said it again!], I have looked into my patients’ eyes when giving discharge instructions knowing they cannot afford the prescription that we’re handing to them.”

Where did you look into those eyes, Underwood? At which hospital? At which medical office?

ObamaCare was peddled on lies made by Barack Obama. “If you like your health care plan, you’ll be able to keep your health care plan, period, ” he notoriously claimed. “In an Obama administration,” Trump’s predecessor also vowed “we’ll lower premiums by up to $2,500 for a typical family per year.”

Will Illinois voters fall for more health care lies from a Democrat? They just might. Hultgren is in a tight race and so far only Breitbart among journalistic sources available on Google News has picked up on the Kane County Reporter story.

One issue that the Democrats have had some success with during this election cyle–other than frenzied hatred of President Trump–is health insurance coverage for preexisting medical conditions.

Here’s a juicy story for voters to take their temperature on. A Democrat who is a registered nurse, Lauren Underwood, is running to unseat four-term incumbent Republican Randy Hultgren in a district on the northern and western edge of Chicago’s suburban sprawl.

“As a nurse who worked on the Affordable Care Act,” Good Morning American fawned about Underwood recently,” she knew her patients relied on their coverage for medications and procedures,”

“It’s such a lie,” Underwwood told Time last month about Republicans like Hultgren who have vowed to protect Americans in need of health care insurance with pre-existing conditions.
