Unfortunately I was wrong when I predicted that the Republicans would maintain a narrow majority in the House of Representatives. I found it difficult to believe that enough seats would switch to Democrat in order to flip the House given the drastic improvement in economic conditions since President Trump took office. There are many factors that led to the loss of the House. Here are the five that I believe were the most crucial.
The Republican leadership in the House of Representatives and the establishment Republicans that make up a large percentage of that chamber share part of the blame for the loss. They failed to prove to the American people that they were capable of governing effectively. Time and again they failed to carry out the wishes of those who voted for them. The Republican voters sent them to Washington DC to reign in the out of control spending, something they failed to even attempt. No serious attempt was made to fund the border wall. After the 2016 election, when the Republicans gained both houses of congress and the presidency, they failed to make a serious attempt at repealing ObamaCare.
Paul Ryan and the rest of the establishment purged true conservatives from committee chairmanships and abandoned conservative principles. Instead of two parties on different ends of the political spectrum operating in the House, there was a very liberal party and party that inhabited the mushy center. That lack of a true contrast between the parties was the second cause of the loss of the House. If the Republican establishment still followed core conservative principles such as: a strict allegiance to the Constitution, fiscal responsibility, limited government, free market economics, and maximum personal freedom, I believe they would have held on to the House. Hopefully the establishment will step aside and let the true conservatives run the show now.
On the national level the Republicans have a severe messaging problem. The liberal media was allowed to control the language that was used to debate all of the crucial issues. Too many Republicans running in the House lacked the skill and the mental agility to turn the arguments around. Rephrasing the arguments using the language of freedom and economic prosperity is a skill they must learn before the 2020 elections. Anyone currently in office, or seeking office, as a Republican should watch videos of Ronald Reagan, Milton Friedman, and Thomas Sowell so they can learn how it should be done.
It is kind of hard to win an election based on a booming economy if half of the population doesn’t know about it. Unfortunately, such a large percentage of the population doesn’t know how great things are because they get their news from the exceptionally biased mainstream media. This needs to be addressed but I don’t know how. If anyone has any ideas please leave a comment.
Our indoctrination system is the number one reason why the Republicans lost the House. Considering how many students and graduates believe socialism is superior to the free market and how many believe our founding principles are racist, deeply flawed, and must be abandoned, I believe our educational system in now an indoctrination system. Restoring local and parental control to the schools and getting the unions out completely will solve this problem, but it will take a lot of time and effort.
