Whatever one thinks of President Trump, he doesn’t seem dismayed or chagrined about the flipping of the House to the Democrats or about the dubious and ongoing efforts by Democrat Party in Florida, Georgia and Arizona to change the outcomes of political races lost by Democrat candidates. He keeps on doing what he said he would do. And telling you about it without apology.
… Trump administration invoked national security powers to change existing rules to deny asylum to anyone entering this country illegally, U.S. immigrant rights advocates were told that U.S. and Mexican officials had agreed to a plan to evict migrants encamped on international bridges awaiting to legally apply for asylum.
U.S. and Mexican authorities have reached an agreement to remove hundreds of asylum seekers, including children, from international bridges linking El Paso and Ciudad Juarez, representatives from the American Civil Liberties Union told Texas Monthly Thursday night. Mexican officials are still working to identify shelter space for the migrants as they wait for permission to make their asylum claim in the United States.
That’s pretty bold. I wonder how the president got the Mexican government to cooperate in this matter.
Trump Pushes Back at Michelle Obama. Warning: CNN link.
President Donald Trump pushed back at former first lady Michelle Obama and former President Barack Obama over a forthcoming memoir in which the former first lady said she would “never forgive” Trump for his role [sic] in the “birther” movement.“She got paid a lot of money to write a book and they always expect a little controversy,” Trump said.“I’ll give you a little controversy back, I’ll never forgive (President Barack Obama) for what he did to our US military. It was depleted, and I had to fix it,” Trump said. “What he did to our military made this country very unsafe for you and you and you.”
One thing that many foes and even supporters of Donald Trump hate is his refusal to play the accepted role of “statesman.” (As I typed that last word, the notion of “the state’s man” popped into my head, that is, a man who is owned by the state.)
Admittedly, having a plain-spoken, abrasive president was jarring to me at first. Then I began to think back on the last two presidents, both pathetic blowers of backside smoke from the two “opposing” parties lulling many of us to sleep with their sweet dulcet tones.
(And I contend that both former Presidents Obama and George W. Bush harmed the military. BHO was merely less dishonest about it. No, I’m not in the “Bush lied” camp, but in the “Bush was too chicken-sh*t to defend his policies” camp. Bush was afraid of his political opponents. That’s a crippling trait for a POTUS.)
In contrast to GWB’s reaction to losing the House in 2006. the 2018 loss of the House seems to have energized this president, who, if one takes a look back at a man who has been in the public eye for 40 years, seems always to thrive on adversity.
He seems intent on the protection of the American people, even of those who hate him and who would do anything to stop him.
The latter will never forgive him for that, especially if he succeeds.
