Mexican Asylum Deal or Trump Does it Again!

You know having a smart negotiator in the White House has really worked out:

The Trump administration has won the support of Mexico’s incoming government for a plan to remake U.S. border policy by requiring asylum seekers to wait in Mexico while their claims move through U.S. courts, according to Mexican officials and senior members of president-elect Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s transition team.

The agreement would break with long-standing asylum rules and place a formidable new barrier in the path of Central American migrants attempting to reach the United States and escape poverty and violence. By reaching the accord, the Trump administration has also overcome Mexico’s historic reticence to deepen cooperation with the United States on an issue widely seen here as America’s problem.

This is the best all both worlds for us as it will

  1. Discourage traffickers and other attempting to come in under false or illegal pretenses
  2. Protect the ability of people with legitimate asylum requests to enter without sending them back to a dangerous situation
  3. Discourage economic refugees from using the asylum rather than the legitimate immigration rules
  4. Enforces the rule of law

If we had a normal society and media this would be considered a huge victory for the US and an excellent compromise but because this was done by the Trump administration the left/media will decry this solution as the worst violation of civil and human rights since the last time the Trump administration did something they didn’t like.

And frankly I’m not sure they’re all that big on stopping human traffickers, illegal immigration, discouraging economic refugees from using asylum rules or upholding the rule of law anyway.
