Why we fight on Twitter, Why they Ban

Lord Irwin: And stop it we will! I don’t care if we fill the jails. Stop it! Arrest anyone, any rank,
except Gandhi. We’ll cut the strength from under him. And then we’ll deal with the Mahatma.

Twitter can do without me and I can certainly do without twitter

Glenn (Instapundit) Reynolds 2016

Smithy absolutely nailed it here:

That’s right. Social Media was a fine means of tightening Progressive control of our society until DJT started to use it to bypass the Fourth Estate. Policies are mostly musical chairs; you can watch pretty much every Congresscritter argue with themselves over time on YouTube on a host of issues. But you let someone like Trump bypass the chain of command and treat social media like a fireside chat, and blaspheme the Fourth Estate while doing it, and all Portland breaks loose.

Way back when Trump first anounced I noted twitter was a weapon he would use to bypass media

1. It means his campaign can get an unfiltered message out to nearly 3 million people instantly, without worrying about what the media will say. In one tweet his words will reach almost as many people as CNN, MSNBC & Fox draw in primetime COMBINED.

and that was tens of millions of followers ago.

Now twitter could in fact ban Donald Trump (and I suspect that will be the real October surprise of election 2020) but the biggest danger of his tweets is their ability to promote something that the MSM has ignored (like James O’Keefe) to a large population, but to do so would be too obvious even for them and might produce the result that Gen Flynn’s son predicts.

So like they were doing during the campaign dropping Stacy McCain and Milo they are trying to undercut the support below him, the folks with thousands of followers who don’t give a damn what twitter thinks are their targets the goal being to marginalize alternative voices. It’s why Steve Bannon was targeted early on. Trump was too big to take down so the voices that people don’t know need to be taken down and made an example of.

This is what’s going on, in one sense it’s not a coordinated effort per-se but it fits the goals of those who would coordinate such an effort.

It’s an exercise in cowardice, but cowardice isn’t the goal power is and they’ll kick to the curb anyone in the way of that power.

Of course they don’t have Glenn Reynolds to kick around anymore as he has deactivated his account, under normal sane rules that would be a disaster for such a platform but that’s tomorrow’s post.
