I tease twitter a lot but occasionally you can the good civil debate it was sold as a platform for. I had one such exchange with . You can read the exchange on the subject of the Church’s role in civilization here by viewing the entire conversation.
It’s a shame this is the exception and not the rule.
An example of the worst of twitter took place yesterday when the account of the USS Arizona on of all days December 7th. Normally one would be pretty safe is assuming idiocy in such a mistake but given twitter’s record lately malice is a natural assumption.
There are many small pleasures in life that we often miss but there is nothing like two days off in a row when you’ve worked 14 straight.
I’m old enough to remember when saying something like this:
If you participate in a drive-by shooting, get caught by police and take off running, what do you expect to happen?
was simple common sense.
To quote JD. Cahill as played by John Wayne:
You call the tune and you pay the piper. Meaning… you don’t like the treatment, don’t rob the banks.
But apparently that warning doesn’t come into play if there is political gain to be had.
finally I’ve been watching the Brother Cadfael mysteries which takes place in 12th century England. While the series is good the problem with such historical dramas is when I see people, particularly churchmen of the 12th century modify their values to conform to the 20th and 21st.
Such things always make historical pieces a little less fun for me.
