One of the worst kept secrets in the MSM is the revolving door between Democrat campaigns and staffs and the press, think Chuck Todd, George
Stephanopoulos or even the venerated Tim Russett. That’s why the left is so insane over CNN’s hiring of former Trump Department of Justice official Sarah Isgur Flores.
Not only is she a member of the GOP which is bad but she hasn’t completed the required six months of denouncing of conservatives in general and Donald Trump in particular that folks like Jeff Flake has done.
Erick Erickson almost nails it:
Increasingly, we are seeing many of the same reporters who bought the Covington Catholic smear and the Jussie Smollett nonsense double down insisting the media has no problem and is not biased. They likewise are insisting on networks like CNN hiring only people like themselves.
CNN is smart to hire Sarah Isgur and will benefit from her on staff. The objections realliy amount to partisans on the left being upset CNN is trying to present fair coverage.
my only objection is his leaving out the words “the illusion of” before the words “fair coverage” at the end
One of the nice things about having a businessman in the White House is a businessman’s idea of how money gets spent vs a pols idea.
The president’s cancellation of nearly 1 billion in grant funds and determination to recover 2.5 Billion already sent to California for the now abandoned high speed rail project is not only smart but is a direct attack on business as usual in the swamp.
Stuff like this has always been a well for the friends of the politically collected to drink wealth from, the idea that such funds might actually be expected to be used for the project they are supposedly for is the greatest danger the left faces.
As for California, well at least they have the 13% of Manny Machado’s $30 mil annual pay.
I’m not among the “early online conciseness” that thinks San Diego’s 10 year 300 mill all guaranteed is smart. It not debatable that Manny Machado is power hitter with good defensive range at a high skill position. It’s very debatable that he’s worth a $300 Million Dollar contract from anyone least of all a 66 win team that finished last 25 1/2 games out of 1st and 24 1/2 game out of the wildcard. If I was running for President I’d hire Dan Lozano and MVP sports group as my lead fundraisers.
Speaking of Election 2020 there is one line in this piece on the Bill Weld campaign that really sums up this election and the last one.
Money will be raised and spent. Consultants will be paid.
This election and the last was a full employment plan for political consultants and insiders and those folks will never forgive Donald Trump for winning with folks not on the big money list
SABLE Washington 7 Boston 6
For the 2nd Day in a row the 9th inning was a nightmare for Keith Foulke (L 0-1 BS 1) and the 2004 Boston Red Sox and a 2nd Manny Ramirez fueled comeback came just short as the 1924 Washington Senators held on to defeat Boston 7-6 in one of the most exciting finishes of the season thus far.
It looked like another pitchers duel through six as starters Pedro Martinez and George Mogridge both pitched well though Mogridge holding the Red Sox scoreless, Martinez allowing only a single run on an Ozzie Bulge single scoring Peckinpaugh in the 2nd.
In the seventh the fireworks began Martinez walked Peckinpaugh who quickly stole 2nd. This proved a distraction as Wid Matthews followed with a Triple driving in Peckinpaugh and Ozzie Bluege singled him home making it 3-0. Manager Geller left Martinez in and the move paid off as Martinez struck out the next two batters before ending the inning on Bucky Harris Flyout.
It looked like that’s all Mogridge would need when he Quickly retired Kapler and Varitek to start the inning but with two outs Johnny Damon singled and Bellhorn reached on a Joe Judge Error bringing Manny Ramirez to the plate who promptly deposited Mogridge’s next pitch 450 to right to tie the game and David Ortiz not giving him a chance to recover from the shock followed with one high into the Green Monster seats to give Boston their 1st lead of the series before Millar grounded out to end the damage
It looked even worse for the Senators as Cabrera singled and Youkilis walked to start the 8th but reliever Allen Russell (W 2-0) got Kapler to fly to center and then after a walk got Johnny Damon to end the inning with a double play.
With a 1 run lead in the 9th Pedro retired Peckinpaugh before Foulke came to face Wid Matthews who had already tripled once. He promptly tripled again and Foulke followed that by hitting Ossie Bluege putting runners at the corners with one out for pinch hitter Doc Prothro who singled to right to tie the game. It looked like Foulke might leave it there after Sam Rice popped out but Bucky Harris doubled to right scoring both Bluege and Protho and Judge followed with one to left, giving Allen Russell a seemingly safe 7-4 lead going into the bottom of the 9th.
It wasn’t. Bellhorn singled and Manny followed with a homer to left making it 7-6 with nobody out. Washington countered with relief ace Fripo Marberry (S1) who retired Ortiz and pinch hitter Doug Mientkiewicz grounded out to shortstop but gave up a double to Orlando Cabrera double to right and a walk to Kevin Youkilis walked putting the tying and winning runs on before finally ending the drama with a Gabe Kapler fly to right.
Notes: Russell’s has won two games in two days in relief while Keith Fouke in the same period pitched one inning of relief, faced 10 batters allowed 4 Earned runs on six hits and allowed 1 inherited runner to score. Doc Prothro’s pinch hit came in his 1st plate appearance of the year. Ramirez and Ortiz back to back HR were the 1st hit by Boston and the 1st given up by Washington this season. It will be Joe Martina vs Derek Lowe in the finale tomorrow.
