Pope Francis has donated 500,000 dollars to assist migrants in Mexico. The funds, from the Peter’s Pence collections, will be distributed among 27 projects promoted by sixteen Mexican dioceses and religious congregations, which requested assistance in continuing to provide food, lodging, and basic necessities to the migrants.

According to a statement from Peter’s Pence, “In recent months, thousands of migrants have arrived in Mexico, having travelled more than 4,000 kilometres on foot and with makeshift vehicles from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala. Men and women, often with young children, flee poverty and violence, hoping for a better future in the United States. However, the US border remains closed to them.”

I’ve decided that as long as the current successor sn in the chair when the annual Peter’s Pence collection comes around this “Peter” will keep his pence.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not going anywhere. The church is still the church and the truth is still the truth and I’m not about to leave the truth because the chair of St. Peter happens to be held by one of the occasional lemons that you’re bound to get over 2000 years, but I’d say this bit of advice that Christ gave in Matthew Chapter 23:23 very timely:

“The scribes and the Pharisees have taken their seat on the chair of Moses.

Therefore, do and observe all things whatsoever they tell you, but do not follow their example. For they preach but they do not practice.

In the words of Major Winters in Band of Brothers we salute the rank not the man

Oh and one other thing the enemy would love us to to spend out time wallowing in Self-righteousness. We are obliged to pray for the Pope and to be very careful to remember, particularly on Divine Mercy Sunday that we all are in need of God’s mercy and should be most grateful for it being offered to any of us when we don’t deserve it.

According to a statement from Peter’s Pence, “In recent months, thousands of migrants have arrived in Mexico, having travelled more than 4,000 kilometres on foot and with makeshift vehicles from HondurasEl Salvador and Guatemala. Men and women, often with young children, flee poverty and violence, hoping for a better future in the United States. However, the US border remains closed to them.”
